Beautiful little bear, Tami.  You really ooze natural talent in this bearmaking thing.  Very nicely done, and I love the border!

You MUST, MUST, MUST tell me, though, where you got that fabulously pretty photo backdrop.  I've been holding off buying one because they're so stinking expensive, and I haven't found the "right" one that would blend best with everything.  I think this is it!  Would you be willing to share your source?

Thanks and hugs,

Expensive?  Didn't even know you could actually purchase them.  Too much to learn.

Judi ~ Could one be made with some muslin and an airbrush ... outside?  Brain hurts.  Thinking too hard.

Deb, photography backdrops are often just huge pieces of canvas, dyed or painted.  I'm sure one could be created using canvas and an airbrush and I thought of that already.  But time is money, and I don't have a lot of either to spare!  So I didn't want to muck around buying a lot of paints (if using acrylics it would TAKE A lot to cover this much area!) and experimenting with color combinations, only to be disappointed... so I'm looking for something ready-made.  There are a million places to find backdrops on the web, including eBay (20+ pages worth; just search BACKDROP), but many are $150+ to purchase and are absolutely huge (for group portrait sittings, like at a photo studio.)  I'm hoping Tami is using a smaller one in this case, or just used some fabric I can find at my local JoAnne's!

Shelli,

It looks like a really pretty batik fabric...have you tried an actual quilt shop.  They tend to have the nicer fabrics (or at least in my opinion).   Here's a link to a place that I've bought alot of quilt fabrics from.

http://www.tatteredrabbit.com/cgi-bin/Store/store.cgi

Just put "batik" into the search and you will get pages of different kinds of batik fabrics.   I'm curious if you could use a spray adhesive onto poster board or canvas and adhere the fabric to it?

P.S...darling bear Tami...you will be designing your own beautiful bruins in no time!!!

Thanks and hugs,

Hi, I learned this little secret along time ago when I first started making my dolls.
All you need to do is buy a couple of yards of the cheap looking vinyl material it comes in all kinds of color, I like the off white.
It looks like fake leather and kinda has a soft cotton backing. I bought it at Hancock Fabrics, I'm sure you can find it anywhere.
But the secret is your picture program. I use Ulead "Photo Impact" program it is a
wonderful way to add special background effects to your pictures.
I use the effect button to add any color to the background , then I use the blur effect to smear the color into the background, that is how you get the canvas look.
If ya need any help with it, just email me.
But that is a wonderful photo program.
Mine is version 5, I'm sure they have upgraded versions since then. LOL
Like I said mine is about 7 years old.

hugzzzzzzz

Interesting!  I know how to use PhotoShop, which is great for this kind of thing.  But I'm impressed with the seamlessness of your outcome.  Is the purpose of using white as a backdrop that the white is such a contrast to the bear, and thus is easily "selected" by your photo editing program?  That would make sense...

Is the shadow original to your photo or did you add that too?

I love photo editing.

Thanks, Tami!

Guess we know what Shelli is doing when she's offline today ... workin' on her backdrop!

Tami ~
Thanks for the tip!  If I ever get that savvy, I'll give the method a try!

Shelli -
I bought my canvas backdrops off of ebay.
I was able to get one that would normally retail for $250 ~ $300 for  $76 which included shipping.
This is the link to their ebay store's backgroun page hope it works.
http://stores.ebay.com/amvona-com_backg … idZ2QQtZkm
If you can hang around towards the end of the auction you can snap them up cheap.
Not only do they have muslin backdrops they also have digital backdrops on CD.
You just have to keep checking with them they list new things all of the time.
I have one that is in browns and one that is in greens. The green one is a bit light for my tastes. But the last pictures I took with it were before I figured out white balance. I took a picture of a white cat and the cat turned out pink, strange. Oh well, I have to try it again with all of my other new "toys".
They have listed one that is reds and blacks that I would like t buy.
Shipping is usually around $16.00 and it comes FEDEX so it really isn't that bad.

The shadow is there, I only take pictures in natural day light!
Yes try your photo programs, they will do wonders for your
background.
