Hey guys,
trying to redo a pattern of mine, and the body needs some darts. Now I 1st drew the body without a single dart.
So my question is how to now add the dart. I want to keep the size of the body the same, but I just can't figure it out. If I cut out a triangle from the body for a dart now, it's just going to make the body smaller. So how do I add a dart and still keep the same shape I originally had?
Sounds like I should really know this, but for some reason I just can't wrap my brain around it, if I don't make the darts right away.
Thanks in advance
Heather,
If you want to keep your body the same size but with added darts you need to add a little extra length to the front and back side of the bear's body peice equal to what your are minusing with the dart. Just extend the pattern at the lower edges...oh I hope I am making sense.
I wish I could just show you...it would be much easier.
No, thanks Judi, that makes sense. I kinda thought that, just hoping for an easier way maybe??
I know, I wish you could show me in person. That's okay though. I'm gonna take the plunge. Can't turn out that bad right? LOL
Thanks Judi for coming to the rescue
Heather , I think you'll like how darts will fill out the body. You'll have to experiment on how wide and deep tp make them to get the end result you want.
Best of luck and glad I could help a little.
Have I mentioned Ted Menten's "Teddy Bear Studio" book lately?
I really didn't think I liked it a whole heck of a lot but I sure do refer to it often!
Heather, he explains with illustrations how to add darts.
Tho' I still find playing the best way if you can afford to experiment (time & materials). In the end I do it much like Judi as well.
