I have been hobbling around for the past week with pain and swelling to the 2nd and 3rd toes and I
think I may have broken a small bone or something?
I know how I did it.... I was vacuming and I had stepped on the side of a Birkenstock sandle
just where the toes meet your foot, which was painful at the time.
I have been to the Doctor and on Friday I went and had my foot x-rayed.
The results will not be back until Tuesday so in the meantime I am still hobbling and taking
panadol and putting on ice packs to relieve the pain. Grrrr.
Hugs
Carolyn
Ouch *hugs* sorry to hear about that.
by Tuesday though it will most likely have started to heal.... Why so long with the Xrays?
keep the foot elevated if possible. I hope you have it strapped.... oh good grief can you tell I'm a mother?
take care ok?
Oh, dear! It must be very painful indeed! I hope there is nothing broken...
Finger crossed your toes will heal quickly...
Take care,
Beary hugs,
Sophie.
Oooooh . . . so sorry, Carolyn - that must really hurt. I, too, am surprised the x-ray report will take so long. When I broke my ankle a couple of years ago, had it x-rayed at the doctor's office, then got the report back within minutes. He put a cast on it before I left. Hope your weekend isn't too uncomfortable!! Let us know.
Ohh soo sorry Carolyn, just getting over 3 broken toes....so you really truly have my heart felt empathy!
hope you are better soon
good for you going through the trouble of iceing....excellant!
Poor you! That sounds so painful! I agree, ice and elevation as much as you possibly can. I love the frozen packs of corn or peas...they mold to the body, and they're cheap enough, you can use them for the night's dinner, or simply chuck them. Or if you're thrifty like me, you mark the bag with a big X and refreeze to reuse.
I'm not sure if you can get homeopathic tablets in New Zealand (I'm in the US), but arnica montana tablets work WONDERS for bruising and broken bones. It helps to stop the bruising, and eases the pain. When our little Lady Gouldian finch broke her leg, we gave her arnica tablets and two weeks later she was completely sound. Our vet was stunned to find he was looking at a finch that had just broken her leg two weeks prior! He knew she'd broken it, but had never seen a leg mend so quickly. We slipped the tablets in her drinking water, but for people you just slip the tablets under your tongue. The closer to the injury, the better. The longer you leave it, the less the arnica can help.
I do hope you can get some relief soon, though
Owwwwie, Carolyn! Apparently Birkenstocks aren't always foot friendly!
Get well hugs,
Lyn
carolyn - that sounds painful..I did something similar a few years ago so I completely understand.
I never realised quite how much you actually use toes until mine were out of action! Take it easy and make your hubs do the running and fetching!
Aw, Carolyn, I feel your pain!!
I broke my wee toe once and you would have thought I'd broken my foot in ten places it hurt so much!
It's amazing how the smallest parts on our body can hurt so darn much! Keep icing and stay off 'em! And be patient... it takes a while for them to heal!!
 Daphne
Ouch Carolyn you poor darlin! Broken toes hurt like the devil . . . I went through a period of breaking toes at the rate of 1 every year (weird) and the pain is excruciating. My doctor said they couldn't be set, just taped together.
Ice packs for sure, and elevation. No walking--every way you walk makes it worse. All the little foot bits are so tightly packed that pressure or injury on any parts makes the whole thing hurt, and swelling is an agony.
Deb, I'm tempted to try Arnica Montana on our little orange FIV positive cat. Does it strengthen bones generally as well as heal broken bones? He's already lost one leg to a break. It had to be amputated because it refused to heal. Since his immune system is compromised, I'm always looking for ways to build him up!
 Healing thoughts,
Eileen
Owwwwchie! So sorry to hear about your injury Carolyn. I have had broken toes and boy do they hurt! I hope it heals quickly.
Oh, thats too bad,
Hope you are feeling better soon,
let us know when you find out.
Take care!

Sorry to hear you are in pain. Hope you feel better. Keep us updated.
Carolyn, are you doing any better today, hon?

This is surely an ideal opportunity for you to milk the situation Carolyn?
Make lots of sighing noises whenever you get up to do anything no matter how small.
Get hubs/partner to do all the things that you don't really fancy doing - trash, housework, cooking etc
Wince whenever he mentions any kind of wifey kind of things generally
Trust me - i'm a master
Penny
P.S. i do hope you get better soon but as Monty Python sang/whistled "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life"
Thanks very much for all your kind words.
I laughed when you said Penny - milking it for all it's worth. hehe! My husband is a great help.
I think the Monty Python song, is the one we should all be singing. - Always look on the bright side of life!
My toes /feet are still sore and I had to take our daughter over for Orientation Day today, as she is starting Uni.
next week.
I managed to get to the half yearly sale at a big department store Smith & Caughey and saw a
nice denim skirt I bought and a red and white striped top.
I get the results of the xray back tomorrow from the Doctor so will see what is to become of me.
As it is, I am continuing to take Panadol to relieve the pain and I am still hobbling - hurts like heck!
Thanks again
Hugs
Carolyn
Hi Carolyn
Was the sale a bun fight - it was the Kirk's one last week down here...I was far to afraid to go near it.
Hope the x-ray results are ok tomorrow
Feel better soon and let us know how it goes with the x-rays.
Thanks everybody!
Actually Melissa, the S&C sale started on Friday so most of the really grabby folk had got all the good pickings. I have been there on a first day opening before and it is not very pleasant.
As I said I managed to get a top and skirt for myself and I bought my husband a white business shirt
and my daugher some underware.
thanks again for your kind wishes
Hugs
Carolyn
Well I went back to the Doctor yesterday with my still swollen and sore toes.
There were not any broken bones that showed up on the x-ray. My Doctor explained that
sometimes the toes can be fractured and these do not show up on the x-rays.
She said that I would need to see a Specialist and gave me a referral letter. I phoned to make an appointment and nearly feel over backwards when she said the first available appointment was July - can you believe that!!!!
I tried a few more Doctors and they had a two month waiting list.
I phoned the Whitecross Accident and Medical Centre and I might be able to get a Doctor
to see me next week.... fingers x'd here!
They are going to let me know tomorrow. So it is back to panadol and icepacks and trying
to keep off one's feet ( but that is easier said than done.)
Bear hugs
Carolyn
JULY!!! Holy cow! If your bones are broken, they'd be healed by then!
Gosh Carolyn, how frustrating! I'm glad there weren't any obvious broken bones at least.
I used to work as a nurse in the emergency department and when it was only toes that were broken (no broken foot bones) the only thing we did was tape the broken toe or toes to the ones next to them to help imobilize them until they healed. If you have pain in your foot too, you might try keeping it wrapped in an Ace bandage. I don't know what you call them in New Zealand but they are an elastic bandage used for sprains a lot. It would help support your injury while it heals and keep down swelling.
I hope you get into see the doctor next week and heal quickly!!
hugs,
Carolyn,
Like Dilu "bless her heart"
I just wanted to check in with you on how you are doing?
Been watching the posts.
sending big     s

What a bummer, i am sorry you are still suffering.
Here in the states they don't do anything for broken toes, so when I broke mine a couple months ago I just had the hubs tape 'em together and took my pills.....it isn't any fun though, and I am sorry you have to wait to be seen.
sigh
managed health care.....its the same world wide....
hope you are doing better...ice and elevation and lots of chocolate...right?
dilu
ACKKKK!! i've done the same thing with my Birkies - hurts like HECK!!!
so sorry!! eat some chocolate!
