Anybody ever put a tail on a teddy bear here?  I know Nancy Tillberg has several patterns which include them.

I've never done one, myself.

Just curious...

I love to put tails on my bears. They're basically another ear stitched in the appropriate place.

I made a bear where the tail was in the body design. It looks good, but the tail is'nt really that viewable for pic's, sorry. Because this bear has a growler he is very touchable and the tail comes as a lovely surprise to who ever gives him a cuddle.

I used to always do tails.
Then as I tried to focus on more facial details I began to neglect the backside and saw tails as Kim sees ears so stopped. My black bears (like my avatar bear) always get tails. Where they are most often standing it's more noticable.

I love your cat Heather.I think your bear looks good with his tail.
I used to put tails on but now they won't sit properly.

I love tails, too!  All my bears get them anymore.  Their little hineys look naked without them, and I have to do it! bear_grin

I was wondering about how tails affect sitting as well.

Heather, I want your cat too.  What a great and regal posture it has!

HEATHER I WANT THAT BEAR !!! Lookie at him..he's so precious...playing with the cat.

Tails..I have not done a one...but I think if I did I'd sit the bear down first then pin it on just so it ' grows" out  where it should...I dont think he should be sitting on it... and it is just a little stubby thing and faces downward....

I hate to suggest this but..... I think it would be great if we had a Bear Photo Reference Library for anatomy, size, colorings, snozzles, ears. various bear types...or can we get that somewhere else on the web ?....Winney

Aww man, you guys are soo nice.  I never even sold that bear, thinking no-one would want him. So thanks for the complements.

Shelli, you're right, that is a cool picture of my cat. I have a series of pictures of him slowly creeping into my photo session. Cats are such little......uhhh......hummm, can't think of a clean word! LOL

Clydes-tail.JPGleft-side.JPGGiggle-s-back.JPGHeather you're kidding, right???  He's adorable!  I'd have him in a heartbeat!  bear_wub

As for my bears...they always have tails, well..except for the two mouton (sheepskin) and the one persian lamb bears.  No way could I find a glover needle long enough to go through 6 layers of sheepskin, even IF I could manage to find a way of forcing it through!

"Giggle", my avatar bear is the top one, and you can see his tiny tail.  Little Miss Muffet is next.  From the side you can't see her tail very well, its the feather bit 'whooshing' out from the her back...and Clyde of course with his tiny tail showing....

I make mine as an extra 'ear' with a dart sewn in the center underneath.  Then I flip it inside out, and pin it just above the mark I use for my legs and sew into the backseam.  That way the bear can sit and not be flopped one way or another.

I don't have any pics of my larger bears' tails, but for my 16 inch non jointeds I use an ear shape and again sew into the back seam where it joins the butt, except on my big guys, I don't make the dart.  Instead I stuff the tail softly so it feels squishy.   bear_smile

Oh, that actually looks like it might ASSIST balance.  Interesting... !  Thanks for the pics, Debbie!

Their tails are so tiny, I'm not really sure if it assists, but they aren't a hindrance either..  bear_flower

Glad you like the pics...

Shelli, a tail put in the right place for sure assists with them sitting. At least for me it does.
I also sew the tail to the body before I turn it rightside out. I like to stuff it full of glass beads, so it's hard. Don't ask me why, I just do.

Debbie, awsome bears! I love their cute little tails.
