I think, Lyn, they're used in electronics... setting up stereo systems and such.  They also have more deviant uses but I don't suppose a trip to your local "head shop" is in the cards for a bear maker of dignity and sophistication such as yourself, and besides, those cost more, because they have feathers attached... laughing here...

I got mine at RADIO SHACK which, in the US, is a store that sells all kinds of radio and stereo and TV and phone components, as well as some of those actual items.  But mostly it's for the purchase of kit-level stuff.

I also found them at two of our local hardware stores, but they weren't availble in bulk; at the hardware stores they were sold in tiny packs of 4 or 5, but at RADIO SHACK I got them in packs of 20 for a significantly better price.

You can find them online very easily as well; just GOOGLE "alligator clip" for a spot near you!

I don't mean to bring this back to the top to beat it to death but just wanted to share the following:

I was at JoAnn Fabrics today and found alligator clips in packages of 5 for .99 cents!! At the home improvement store they are 4 for 1.99 and I've forgotten what they are at Radio Shack. (Perhaps better than JoAnn's, Shelli?)

At JoAnn's the clips are with the Jewelry findings. They are put out by Darice so if you have an account with Darice you could order through them at an even better price. (You can only order from them if you are a wholesaler or jump through hoops to open an account.) I've tried the two Radio Shack stores near me and neither one of them stock the alligator clips. By the time I pay shipping to order online I'm paying what I would at the hardware store I think! I'm always at JoAnn's any way so it's easy!!!

That's all I wanted to tell you! bear_original

They are all I'm using with the 'bunnies' as the felt fabric I'm using is just too thick for pins. I'd be soooo frustrated if I didn't have those clips!!!

Why using alligator clips when you can simply make a tacking stitch before sewing??? (a friend of mine suggested it to me so I stopped using clips). 1 cm tacking stitches are fine.

Try it!

Beary hugs,
Sophie.

Laughing here too!  I have gone on quick milk-and-bread runs to our local grocery store with alligator clips clipped to my shirt or belt loops.  I clip them there as I sew so I won't loose them bear_laugh  bear_laugh  bear_laugh ..I don't know what people thought when they saw them. bear_laugh  bear_laugh  bear_laugh

I bought my alligator clips for Dear Bears Marketplace in Canada about 6 years ago.  I never ever use pins, only these clips.

They come in two sizes.

Thanks for the Radio Shack tip, Shelli.  I didn't know they carrried them.  SO far I have not needed to add any to my original supply...but it's good to know where to get more incase I need them.
