Thought I'd post a couple of silly Golly pictures to share today. He was sitting on the couch with the boys again the other day. If he starts watching cartoons with them too, I might worry!
PS--ignore any mess you might see anywhere in the room.........just look at the dog and kids!!!!!!!!

I'm on the floor dying here. That is the biggest mutt ever! h eh ehe
NO, he's a beautful dog.
My 5lb dog would fit in his mouth as a snack. Oh my!!!
I'd love to come visit though, and meet him. Soo cute!
Wow . . . super size doggy! He's beautiful and so are your kids . . . well, your kids are handsome! Thanks for sharing!
My goodness, that's a dog and a half!!! He reminds me of Hooch from the film!! What a sweety, I bet the boys adore him, I love the way he's sat on the couch!!! Animals are so funny aren't they!!?
Love them both!!

Wow TRACY!! Beautiful Dog and Gorgeous Son!!
many Hugs Louise
OH MY HE IS HUGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I bet he is a big cuddly bear though!
Hi Tracy,
Is Golly really his name LOL! He's goooorgeous - is he a Mastiff? I guess he sits anywhere he wants *grin*.
Hugs,
Brenda
OMG! That dog's head is big! That's hilarious how he's sitting on the couch! Didn't you say he keeps his front paws on the ground so he can't get in trouble for sitting on the furniture?
Both of your boys are adorable. You're gonna have all the girls calling your house in a few years!
Yowzer! What a beautiful boy you dog is! Very handsome I must say and your sons are handsome too...watch out in a few years the dog will have to move over on the couch for all the girl friends.
Hugsa Jane.
Oh he is so ugly (the dog not the nice child)but in a beautiful way.I love droopy lips and his are huge.I bet he drools.
Diane xx
I'd love to come visit though, and meet him
Oh yes, come visit us Heather!! Everyone else come too! Golly can be a bit overwhelming in person. His head is at chest level on most people, you usually get christened with a little drool, and watch out for the wagging tail.......it's like getting smacked with a rubber hose!
He is a Mastiff.....English Mastiff to be exact. The dog from the movie Turner and Hooch (love that one--I always cry at the end) is a French Mastiff which is a bit smaller. They all drool! I live with it though cuz I love him so much!! And it helps to keep drool rags handy to wipe them off before he slings them or wipes them on you! His name is Golly--short for Goliath (original huh?). He does keep his front feet on the floor when he sits on the couch. I know I've had him on here before, but couldn't resist posting these pics of him and the boys. He just loves having someone sit by him and love him up!! The boys love it too. I agree that they are totally handsome boys.....course, I'm biased!!
Poor Golly has arthritis in his back legs and hips. He had to have a growth deformity fixed in one hind leg, and hasn't been 100% since. He is now having trouble getting up off the floor sometimes (and it's not easy helping him up). I want to keep him forever, and I fear his time with me will not be more than a few more years. If anyone has any good doggy advice on joints/arthritis pain remedies, I would most welcome them!! He gets an aspirin every day (my vet told us to do that) and it helps, but I am looking into glucosamine and chondroitin as possible help for him. Nip it in the bud now before it gets too bad to manage I hope.
Glad you guys enjoyed the pics!

I love your dog, Tracy! I think mastiffs are so cute. I want to come over and give him a big hug. Your boys are cute too. Thanks for the pics.
Tracy,
I know exactly what you mean . . . I'd do just about anything to keep my pups healthy and here forever!
I've been giving aspirin and glucosamine supplements to my 15-year-old Lucy for a few years now, and both seem to help. Sometimes she licks her ankles, and sometimes she lacks strength in the hips and stumbles on stairs--at other times, she frisks along like a pup! She's a collie/shepherd cross, and gets glucosamine at 500 mg/day, though she can handle 1000mg. Golly definitely looks like a 1000 mg/day guy!
I'm starting the younger dogs on the glucosamine too, as a preventative.
Eileen
Tracy, Wow that is cool, thanks for sharing the photos with us.
Eileen--thanks for the advice on the glucosomine. I will get him started on some. I so wish I had done this a year or more ago. Darn it! Better late than never though.

Tracy
Oh what a big cutie!!!
They love to watch tv, I catch Tiffani doing it all the time!
I love your Rabbit!!!!!
Hi Tracy, Love your big guy!!!!!! I just want to smooch his face and hug him forever! He is drop dead gorgeous!
I have a big ol' drooler, although not as big as your guy! "Jet" is a Cane Corso and he is about 5. He has has sever HD since birth and I have always had him on Glucosime and Chondroitin. About 2 years ago I switched to a product called "Nupro" by Nutri-pet Research Inc. I get it from my local pet store (not the big box store but a larger family run store. They have two types: a regular one then one called "Joint Support"
It has Glucosimine, MSM, Ester C and many other great ingredients. My vet and several knowlegable dog friends have said that with Glucosimine and MSM you don't really need Chondroitin. Although, I do by a plain Chondroiting supplement only from GNC to compliment the Nupro. The thing I, my pet sitter, my Vet and Jet's joint specialist are amazed about is that he does not display many pain indicators. They are all amazed after seeing his hip x-rays that he can even walk. I attribute this to a high pain tolerance and the long term use of the Glucosimine and Chondroitin. I get the Nupro in a 5lb canister for $49.95 and then the chondroitin (the expensive part) for about $60.00 for a 80 tabs (if I remember right). If you look at him you can tell he has really bad hips but he moves great and can play for hours with no ill- effects. I would highly recommend the Nupro with or with additional chondroitin. The 5lbs will last Jet over two months as he is on the mainantence dose (one scoop each meal). When I first started using it he got 2 scoops twice a day for the first two months.
Whatever route you go I would defintitley use Glucosimine, Chondroitin, and MSM with Ester C. I think you will see a big difference.
Good Luck, Such a cutie!!!!! Give him a big squishy smooch from me and Jet!
Oh Ranae, can't wait to see the pics.......brindles are just gorgeous!!
Duff--love the pic of your poochie! That's a cool close up!! I had never heard of a Cane Corso, so had to look them up. They sound like awesome dogs.....very similiar in many ways to Mastiffs. There is just something special about our big, loveable babies!!
Thanks gals for the advice on Golly's joint problems. I will get him on something ASAP (going to Walmart monday). I sure hope it helps him, and I have a feeling it will. Yippee!!
Tracy
Hi Tracy, I would start with Osteo-biflex (think that is the spelling and they shoudl have a generic version, just compare labels) You can get it with MSM, although the price is a killer. I currently have jet on a miminum of 2000(GL)/1500(CH) split between two meals. I hide the pill I give jet in a small ball of wet dog food. By the time I it get it to his mouth he is drooling!
good luck!
Duff
BTW - you can't tell from the photo but Jet is what they call a black brindle. Black background with light brindle markings. I must admit that I could never imagine a day with out a mastiff in my life! Cane corso's are a type of mastiff, although they tend to be smaller, if 130lbs can be classifed as small
Wildcatdancer - you''ll have to post a picture when you can, I would love to see a picture! What a lucky friend you have!
Tracy--I don't think it's anywhere near too late. This stuff is amazing, but you have to keep it up daily. I give it in a small blob of butter, and when Lucy licks the butter off my fingers, I know she's swallowed the stuff.
Duff--that is the single most beautiful close-up poochy face I've ever seen! Drool is beautiful!! And thanks for the expert advice on supplements. I've been dosing Lucy like an amateur--got to move up to the next stage.
Eileen
