I tried to do my first eyelids last week and it was kind of tricky with small eyes! And I didn't really get the effect that I was looking for.
So, you guys that make eyelid bears, do you use bigger eyes then "usual"? I have always used small eyes so on a bear that is 30 cm tall I have 7-8 mm eyes. Can anyone tell me how big eyes I will have to use to get a better eyelid effect?
There's no hard and fast rule but if it makes you feel better, the ones I use are generally 12mm, which is almost twice as big as the ones you were working with! I tend to use 2mm leather cording, if/when I use leather cording. Can you find 1mm and use that instead? It will be thinner, obviously, and less rigid, so possibly harder to insert into the head (it might bend back on itself) but it might also be more appropriate for a 7mm eye.
Just some thoughts.
Good luck!
Thanks Shelli, I do feel better!
Earlier today I took a chance and ordered some eyes in the range of 10-13 mm after measuring my poor teddybears head, so I guess they will work fine. (I can tell you that putting eyelids on eyes - and for the first time! - and doing this on eyes that are 7-8 mm are not the funniest you can do!)
Thaaaaaank you!!
