blond-2.jpgblond-1.jpgThis is a new pattern I'm trying. Not sure if I quite have the open-mouth down right but it's hard to go too wrong with this dense curly Schulte mohair. I used a tip I got here about putting in a triangle shaped gusset in the foot to make it wider. He also has darts in each arm instead of armatures.

Oh my, what a big huggable guy! How big is he??

He's great! I love the big feet, you really have those mastered. His nose is a perfect shape and I really like those eyelids.

Nice work on the mouth as well. Was is hard to do?

Heather - he's about 15" standing, which he will do with some assistance. Doesn't balance well on those big toes unfortunately. The mouth wasn't hard so much as fiddley - you should try it!

I will try it, one day...........

15" ??? Soo cuddly! Wow. Didn't you say you don't like making the bigger bears? Had a change of heart? Or sick of making tiny wedding bears?? LOL

Hi Marion, this looks like a really nice new pattern. Love the toes and the bent arms. May I suggest you needle sculpt the upper palate a bit? It seems to be bulging down, but that may be the picture.

Sabine you are right but I don't know just what to do. It is sort of sewn and stuffed a bit before I sewed the mouth in but I don't think I'm that pleased with the effect. Next time I'll try something different. I can't do much about it now. I had seen it done that way in a pattern I had bought years ago and was trying for a similar effect - didn't quite hit it!

Marion, you can needle sculpt the upper palate after the head is complete. Just use some strong thread, anchor in the muzzle, come out in the palate, go from the palate up through the muzzle, pulling the palate upwards. Try to enter into the same holes you come out of to make the stitches invisible from the outside. I think Nancy Tillberg explains that in her book 101 bears to make.

Sabine...thanks but unfortunately the upper pallet is trapunto - stuffed from the other side and sewn. I think if I try to needlesculpt it as well it will get distorted.
This bear actually has another head tucked away. I had started to needlefelt a head but didn't like the colour roving I was using so made another head. I've since ordered the right colour and when it comes I think he have a 'change of head'.

I just had to pop back for another gauck Marion! I think he is just so big and cuddly.
I have tried foloowing your and Sabines conversation, but for the life of me I have no idea what either of you are talking about. DUH!!   It has been sometime since I have made an open mouth. And I'm sure I didnt do it the way either of you have mentioned.  bear_wacko Wendy
