Bine-TeddiesAs a biologist I can't let this stand. Dragonflies live a lot longer than 24 hours. Even when you consider only the adult stage (which is really the shortest part of its life) most dragonflies live for weeks or even months. I know this one isn't true, really. My 2 goldfish know their feeding time exactly! It's as if they can read the clock. They really outdo themselves to get my attention if I am late. I was surprised that they have such nice, distinct personalities!
Not as cuddly as my dog Cody, but still great pets.

There was a 'Mythbusters' episode that aired not long ago, disproving the 3-second goldfish memory. I thought mine were just finny geniuses.

Bine-TeddiesHi Sabine,That's where the expression came from, it's in the Christian bible of 'Job' and another area where God explains that he knew us before we were in the womb etc...then mentions about skin on our teeth (i may have taken literal?) will find out....i'll have to get my husband to find it..as i'm currently not on talkie terms with the Boss upstairs, his not too happy with me
Also biologists use a descriptive phrase, dermal denticles (literally, "tiny skin teeth")
Hi Lisa, I am an atheist so have no idea what the bible says. Makes sense that its an expression for something non-existent.
Just another small tidbit of information (can't help myself 
): sharks have skin teeth, i.e. their skin feels like sandpaper, because there are tiny teeth (dermal denticles) on it. I'm sure glad, we don't have that.

I've gotten out of scrapes by "the skin of my teeth" before, but didn't know it was mentioned in the Bible. Bit of a big book for me to read..... 
Bine-TeddiesHi Lisa, I know that the bible is interesting read, just haven't done it much. I guess I must have read some parts in school, but that's a long time ago.
Sharks are scary, yes. Intellectually I know that most species are harmless and chances of being attacked are small, but I would be careful where to swim too if I lived in a country with sharks. I would be afraid of your snakes and spiders too, although I know they are not a great threat.
