Thanks a lot ladies. This bear may soon appear in Teddy Bear Scene as part of an article on Japanese style bears and the Yahoo group Love Japanese Bearies, of which I'm a member. Don't know what issue yet. A lady from that group is writing it.

Oh no Irene, don't cry. I am using Macintosh so I am no big help unless you have Mac too, but there must be good cheap programs for PCs to help you build and maintain your website. Its really not that difficult and a lot of fun. Strange boyfriend though, I've never before heard of websites being in pdf. At work some people did them in jpg, but that was quickly discouraged also.
Please, don't give up. Your bears are so lovely. You can still keep the pdfs as an option for people who want to download your catalogue. Its good to offer alternatives. Your pics can go on the website too, so you really didn't do that work for nothing.  :hug:  :hug:  :hug:  :hug:

Hi Irene,

to be able to view pdf pages in a browser, that browser needs to have a plug-in from Adobe Reader. Some browsers do, others don't. My Netscape for Mac OSX for example downloads the file and I have to open it manually. Don't know why that is, but I got another browser that works fine. Also pdf is a large format that takes time to download and is really only feasible on broadband. It worked fast for me, but then I have a 100 Mbit/s connection. Your bear catalogue (the only file I checked) consists of one giant very long page with a lot of empty space at the bottom. You should eliminate that empty space to make the file smaller. The link to the English version of your site doesn't work btw.
There are many cheap and good programs to make some simple web pages without having to know html. I recommend that you use one of those instead. Its fun and really not difficult at all. I used a cheap program with pre-made layouts for my simple website. I think you may get more customers that way.

Aww, there are so many tall ladies here that I can come out of the closet too.  I am also close to 6 feet tall (1.79 m). I ordered an XL and hope that's enough, embarrassing as that letter combination is. I would normally get a large, but with Sue Ann's warning I decided to play it safe. And they usually do shrink a bit in the laundry. Wouldn't want it to reveal all the extra curves on my body    It probably takes two weeks to get mine though, despite being sent by airmail. Oh, the wait.

So sorry Sophie, you know I know this from personal experience as I almost fell out of science too. The general rule is that after three years out of science you can't get a job as a scientist any more, ever. Its just because science is moving so fast that someone who hasn't done it for three years is expected to be out of the loop, not up to date anymore and there are too many competitors who are up to date. It would be no problem to get up to date in short time, but you rarely get the chance. Science is the cruelest business of all! You have another year I reckon! There may be another way for you also, if you can find a back door. Like get a job at a lab or museum doing something else and then gradually move towards doing research. That's what I did, but it was a strike of luck and good fortune.
Keep applying dear, also abroad, as it seems to me that the French system is unusually difficult and unjust. Look into working for Greenpeace, WWF and the like and see if there is anything in developing countries paid by the French government as support for those countries. It may not be science, but it can be biology. Do volunteer work if you can and get yourself out there, get a name, become known. The EU council sometimes has openings for scientists too, although very many apply.

Shelli, your health must come first. If your bears are a little scarcer they will become even more desirable and prices for the few that turn up may go way up. The chenille stems are 6 mm (?1/4 in.) wide and I bought them at a local craft shop. Elke sells them on ebay. That's the lady that sells the booklet on pipe cleaner bears, which we discussed earlier.

Hi everybody!
Meet Benny and his lady friend. They are a birthday present for a friend and on their way to Chicago at the moment. The cardigan is made from a pattern by Berta Hesen-Minten, Benny is my design without pattern. He is 6.5 cm tall standing (under 3 in.). His friend is made after Elke's instructions and under 2 in. sitting. Hope you like them.
