Hello hello Ms Kbonsal !
Welcome to the board and the absolutely looneytune fun we have here. I have to say I am amazed! Wow! 3 bears in one week!!! and your very first week!!! You are really getting going fast!
Good for you...the girl knows what she wants and nothing is going to stand in her way!....(or guy....) kinda hard to know. :/
We are so happy to have new voices here, with new ideas. Look forward to getting to know you. :)
Dilu
Rita,
I never thought of it that way....but you have a point. I got paranoid re: copywrite infringement while a quilter.....to the point that I stopped buying books because I didn't want any influence even subconsciously.
I've pretty much done the same thing with bears too....for the same reason....AND I DON"T EVEN SELL!!
You've been designing for 8 years, Hmmmm I've been designing for 8 months. The problem with Gols and teds is the basic necessities for life.....they have to have heads, arms,legs,bods,......kind of hard to improvise toooo terribly much......so i always worry that someone will say 'Hey I do that....." well, Yeah, you prob. do. How many ways are there for a head shape, long arms, short arms, short legs, long legs, to tail or not to tail......and gollies....wellll.....I have seen some fabulous gollies here, unbelievable-like Laure's
But we are still dealing with basic body parts.....although I am toying with a Maye West gol, or Marilyn Monroe? Cleavage....yep that's what I have to figure out.....
Thanks Darlene,
a valuable subject for all of us
Dily
HI Lesley
Welcome welcome.....I* love your stuff. (gollies and teds*)....I actually have stumbled on you in the past.....thank you for coming.....hope you're somewhat wonky....but then you must be.....Look forward to your words of wisdom!
Dilu
Winney Winney tired-of-foot Winney
I am so terribly relieved! I DON'T KNOW WHAT I WAS THINKING!!!
So glad the crotch thing is all healed up.....
For those who only read the last post.....let 'em wonder!
Dilu
Oh Daphne
I couldn't agree more, I am always comfortable with his snoring.....and he doesn't snore loud, he has these cute little uhuh type snores....it when he stops that I wake up....and count....at about 30 I start gently rubbing whatever I can reach....Usually sleep apnea happens to rather heavy folks that aren't in such good shape....My cuddlebunny is a hiker, and walker and not heavy.....so I don't understand
Penny Penny Penny.....I think you should send it into Steiff.....they may appreciate the advertising in a most appreciative way, (like maybe an Appolonia?) or not, but, darn girl, you are too too funny.
Our ISP server has been down nearly all day and I was getting downright cranky....(wihtdrawel? :o)
Kirsten this has been such a wonderfully fun topic....thank you so much....
Feeling better now I got my fix.....
Wonky dilu
NO NO NO!!!! :D
Never enough pictures Judi.....more.....I'm a greedy little wonkybrat.
Dilu
Wow....Thank you so much Laura and Hayley - this is super important for all of us, buyers and sellers alike to be aware of.
Talk about ethical issues.
Thank you!
Dilu
So glad you came out to play Hayley!......we have lots of fun here, and wil have more fun now that you have joined us!
Dilu
Kirsten what a silly great subject!
I would be super super big, like maybe 45 inches, and super super super soft, and I would have wonkily double joints (I do anyway) and would be made out of fur that is 2 inches long with the finest finishes and it would be naturally curly. My ears and tummy would be peach and my arms and legs and face would be pale seafoam green. And I would still sleep with my honey and I would play Opera areias just by pressing my toe. And since I'm a teddy I wouldn't worry at all about his snoring ( or when he doesn't breathe! Super scarry ) And I would never ever ever have another headache!
Hmmmm, what else? Oh of course....I would live on chocolate and never ever get sick or gain weight. And I would never get dirty cuz I don't trust my honey to clean me right.
And I wouldn't ask embarrasing questions.....like:
Winney why did your poor beary crotch have to get fixed 3 times? :o
Wonkilu
Oh Winney
I am so jealous! We don't have all those stores on this side of the Rogue.
Do post Your pictures when you do your painting....so we can all enjoy
Look forward to meeting you in June-(can hardly wait! and I already have my grabbag surprise ready!)
Oh Haley, I am so sorry you had that problem with your eyes.. :(..but you'll get it!:)
Dilu
Hi Clare
your ted is so cute, sitting there playing with his blocks-what's not to love about a little guy like that?
Dilu
Penny
The migraine is still there, and it hurts like the dickens to laugh, but oy do you guys make me laugh!
That sounds like a whole new topic-
creativity and migraines
creativity and dominant handedness......
Hmmmmm any thought ladies and gents?"
hugs to all-tomorrow is a better day and we get to do this all over again....oh my aren't we lucky!
My itty bitties are sewn and stuffed-will get them jointed and dressed tomorrow.....I hope they are under 3"
Let ya know
Wonkilly saying goodnight to all
Dilu
Great idea Clare
Only maybe not to be cutting mohair right after the wine.....otherwise, yep let's do it!
Dillydilu
Laure
I will try and faxt the rest to you later today or tomarrow....have a beast of a headache right now......Have a tendancy toward migraines and just plain headaches......so if it's all right, and I am sure it is I'll wait a bit....but I won't forget...
Di
Well Ladies,
You're welcome; but
I suspect the chocolate has a lot to do with feeling better too! :)
Dilu
Here's my spider story
The Peta Prince collected all sorts of live and rubber creepy clawlies.
He had a rubber tarantula that was on a long tube so that when you squeezed the rubber ball AT the end it would jump.
Bear in mind I am blind as a bat without glasses.
I was taking a shower and when I finished I reached out to pull the towel of the hook.....and you guessed it, out of the towel jumped this HUGE ICKY SPIDER.....or so I thought.....really just the rubber tarantula. :o
He was sitting outside the door, waiting for the reaction and rolling on the floor holding his tummy and laughing so hard when I came out.
Hmmmm I think I owe him one for that stunt....don't you?
Dilu
Danni I don't know about kits, but I'll tell you how I started.
I studied a bear pattern- and then pretty much made the body the same-arms, legs body etc....then I thought a flat face but a two piece back head so that I could use mohair. It worked-
But then I got a Stieff woggy for a present- and he has a NOSE!!!!
so then I started playing around with how to do a nose. I can do one with a seam down the center easily enough, but couldn't figure out how to do one without a center seam. I do believe the Steiff was wool felt steamed over a form.
Anyway- you don't need a kit....not with the way you do bears. Just get youtrself some black fabric and let her rip.
I sized down my 3 inchers today-I am going for 2".
and of course they can be hand sewn- whatever way you like-
So...now we are all waiting to see what YOU come up with....I can hardly wait.
Aren't Jane and Laure's to die for?
Yyeay we have some might talanted artists here.
Dilu
The only caveat I would have....is use good lighting=-black thread on black fabric = eye strain
Hiya Claire
Good to meet you....Glad you're here, hope you're as delightfully nutty as ,well, everyone else here. It's fun, and I can't believe yu just found us either! :D
Dily
hI Loonie
It's not a bear but a golliwog, but go to the sale page and check out Laure's golly- he's kind of anime-
dilu
Judi- sorry 'bout your leg.....ouch! :(
Sue Ann, I have seen what brown recluses can do to a human body-I think you are very lucky and paranoia is a healthy thing....they scare me to death....but I don't think we have them here at our new home.
Jean you kind of remind me of my old Auntie Temple. She made peanut butter and jelly sandwhiches every single day. Cut off the crusts, cut them diagonally and left them on one of her Limoges plates on a stump on her back porch in the old Hollywood Hills- Then we would sit by the window and watch the racoons come out to play.....it was great fun watching them eat their sandwhiches. She convinced me that they only liked certain jams and certain peanut butters. (She was a little nutty herself in a perfectly wonderful way) but I have since learned Racoons will eat just about anything, and they too will knock at the door if you are late with the daily aperitif. :D
What a fun topic, and it does sort of explain a certain obsession some folks have for mohair.
Dilu
Yayyyy Jean-I burst out laughing at 'that's why they call it furniture-my honey just looks over and shakes his head....he doesn't ask anymore.
I'm so glad you decided to come out and play. I hope you stay. We have an awfully good time here, and there is always room for more furlovers.
Dilu
Light bears....for sure.
I made a black sable bear-you could see the features fine in real life but not in pictures. I have 2 others cut out of the same sable-but after that no more dark dark bears.
Dilu
However Delartful's avatar is a dark bear, however because of the shape of the face-and the longish muzzel it works-that and her talant!
Millie- I only dye enough for one bear at a time too- cuz, what if you don't like it, or it comes out too tooo....and then you have a yard of it? yikes!!!
But it is fun tweaking colors.---Thank God for color, otherwise our life would be soooo grey.
Short story on color
- When my dad started working in the motion picture industry- at the beginning- late 20's, 30's 40's all the back drops were painted in black and white and shades of gray! Really! And they didn't do much filming off the sound stage....so almost all of the backgrounds were backdrops painted by artists like my dad.
So the trick for him was learning values in the shades....and he was color blind!
He tried to enlist in world war 2 he wanted to be a cartographer, but they wouldn't take him because he was color blind.
I think that's really wild.
He was soooo jazzed when he got to work on the Wizard of Oz because it was the first time for him that he got to do work in color....He said there was no going back.
That all the artists were relieved to be able to use color instead of all the grey.
But I think, like I know anything at all, that his working in values stood him in good stead, because when he did his landscapes or the work at the museums he still used value rather than color for his paintings....I mean that values were more important than the color so he mixed all his colors to have the values he wanted.
Oh well
a dissertation on color...
Dilu
OH OH OH Shelli
Your new avatar- I love him, he looks so sad- Like someone told him Santa isn't real.
Wonderful!
Dily
Oh Rita----Blackforest Bears?
I'm new to this world so forgive me for not knowing you or your bears, so I went and took a looksee.
Well for goodness sakes, girl, are you looking at the same teds I just looked at?
I see style galore!
My dad was an artist-he didn't paint the same scene over and over and over again- he tried everything, he experimented, he would paint Half Dome in the winter, or Half Dome at night-he would change things, mix it up a little....there is nothing wrong with that.
There is nothing wrong at all with creating differences in your bears, after all no two people are exactly the same, except for those precious few identical twins. ( and even they have subtle differences)
Soooooodo do what Shelli just recomended for Louise. I'm not in a slump, but I'm going to....the ideas sound like fun...
Glad you are here and glad you came out of hiding!
