I use to measure from the nose seam junction and do the eyes first, that way I know they are on evenly.
Then I would measure from the eye ( top center ) for the inner top edge of the ear ...that way they would be on accurately...last I would do the nose.
Now ...I do the nose and mouth first...then the eyes...then the ears last.
I still place new things the same way...relative to the last thing I placed ...never fails , they always end up going on more evenly than anything else I have ever tried....Winney
Ewwww, de pork poop... Winney
Thank's so much for the tip on adding 1/4 cup vinigar to the Koolaid dye bath!
Dilu...you are so funny . Gray Koolaid , hmmmm maybe it can be mixed? I know when I use any artists colors, acrylic, oils, water color you can get a muddy mess real fast by mixing a bunch of colors together.
I read that white is the " absence of color " and black is the presence of "all colors"....or " many colors".
So is you mix say, blue, red, green, purple, pink..what else is avaiable in Koolaid ...you should get a nice murky icky dark color ? but not gray...so add a bunch of water? Is this work a try ? I think I'd just go out and buy gray dye !
but...I am still curious....well, that's nothing new in fact that traite is more like me than most anything else...Winney
Hi SHelli...we missed you. Hey, Disneyland is very much part of my young adult days . First time we went there was 1956 ! I have been there many times thru out the years with my kids ,their cousins and my hubby and I use to go there with another couple just as a fun date night . That's when you could get in for $6. and paid for the park rides with a .25 cents coupon. We would eat dinner at the Tiki Tiki Room then wander around to find a live band to dance to. Last time I was there we took all the grandkids, our adult tickets were $38. now I hear they are $50. whew !
What fun...and you will have wonderful memories for years to come, that you cannot replace with anything...Winney
Amazing Shelli what you can find on the internet.
I use a small amount of Gingerbread oil on my bears at Christmas time...mmmm everyone love that smell...
.Talking about allergies, someone warned me NOt to mail bears to customers with fragrance on them... I can understand that with the floral cologne fragrances but I don't think gingerbread, apple sauce, cinnamon, pine tree, vanilla and etc....fit into that concern ....as what I use is oil not cologne that has other things in it...What do you all think ? ....Winney
Great and informative news for the rest of us...please keep us posted !...Winney
Sue Ann..that cat is georgous...luv em....Winney
Hey Dilu that's a neat and new to me idea to use the pen to color the threads...
I also heard to use transparant thread in areas where it has a chance of showing like sewing the ears on..Winney
OH my gosh that's great, thank's Rita, on some days that will be a shot in the arm....I copied it out and will post it on my wall.......Winney
Whew ! Thank's for that bit of information KBonsall....Winney
Oh Kirsten...what a perfect name to call it...our "bearselves"...now that is an idea that could catch on here...Winney
Jane, that poem nearly suits me..LOL... Winney
Hi KBonsai and Jossan..... Welcome to the best bunch of teddy people I know, you will love it here.
I don't know much about registering , etc because I have not done it.
A doll reproduction maker I know told me long ago..."don't register until you have to"...because the start up costs will eat you alive..She said here in Oregon you don't need count your business dollars to claim for tax purposes until you have sold over $900. In other words you are not considered being a " business" but you are in the" craft , bizarr catagory " in sales. Oregon has NO sales tax either.
If anyone knows any more than this on Oregon, please post...Winney
Ok you two...sounds good to me. I am bringing one person, will bring some grab bags...we will have fun !!!! Winney
Laura ..that's exactly what I was thinking.LOL.... Winney
Laura, OK....should we tell any one who comes to bring one grab bag ? or shoulld we bring extra grab bags ?
Dilu..you have 2 friends and I have one...any more coming ? Hey...anyone here is welcome . We still need a place defined and a time to meet. Any thing else ?....Winney
Hi Sue Ann...I was doing the same thing ....except when I got the head done it sure looked like an old antique type to me...I swear that bear said ;" NO please don't blow up my head"...So....I drafted his arm, legs and body to match the head style...he is happy to be a little old slumpy bear full of pellets. However I still would like to draft a anime bear ...will do as soon as I catch up with my last 2 designs...wow, when ever I start designing I just explode with more ideas...Winney
Wow...that's terrible treatment...make Pay Pal scary to use....
Now, I don't know if I want to use Pay pal or not...Winney
Oh yes...you teddy girls are too much. Where do you let your fluffy minds go. Oh, sometimes I get my pits ripped too, it's all from tearing around and having fun with the ( dog ) bear piles happen ...Winney
Hmmm." Use the nail polish and the first and last layer ...acrylics in between ". Ohhhhhhhh.....
What about the technique where you " paint concentric circles of paint around the eye back " so then the colors are sort of small blobs placed around the glass eye back ? I assume we still do the same thing.....do the first and last layer in nail polish ?
I have an idea here that may help the paint to stick better. I bought some GLASS paint kits at Michaels. I did not care for the effects for some of the types of glass paints except for the Shimmer paints, they were nice and had an irridescent translucent sheer effect to them. There is a small bottle of glass prep. liquid included in the kit and there is also a small bottle of varnish/ sealer to use a the last coat.
Since trying them I still am looking for that " sparkle " in colors that the glass paints do not give me. But.....one thing that may help prep the glass for ANY type of paint is the Glass Cleaner Prep. which I believe you can buy seperately in small bottles at Michaels...Winney
I am glad you have posted this problem..as I have never sold on Ebay so it is valuable information all us newbies need. I feel relieved that Paypal guarentees that the funds WILL BE in your account in 4 to 5 days. If that were not the case then I would not be too happy to stick my financial neck out that far. Most of us are operating on a very slim budget ...hand to mouth .....Winney
hose who have wondered what happened to rip my crouch 3 times ....It always happens when I am trying to crawl out from under our " dog pile hugs "...see I am only 14 and 1/8th inches tall which is smaller than most of the bears here. Lucky for me I still have my tail.....Winney
Oh you silly....my feet already feel big from shopping all day ..
.OK, I am a very nice pale yellow curly swirly kid mohair with a embroidered pink nose ( hardened of course, as this crowd gets wild sometimes with our dog pile hugs ).
Let's see...I am not jointed but I can stand up really good and I can bend and twist just like real people do. ( except I have had my crotch repaired 3 times ).I am stuffed with some new " wonder stuffin" ,whatever that is .
My ultrasuede tongue is not prepetually stuck out as with some bears ( causes a case of " dry tongue" ) and I have an open mouth that...yes , you guessed it, I am gifted....It can open and close whenever I want it too...just in case some crickets or grasshoppers come around .
My eyes are so pretty as my creater ( bear god ?) that made me hand painted eyes in 2 different blue colors...like the sky and I also have a few sparkels in them which real people call " twinkles in the eyes" , I really think somehow these twinkles have multiplied since I was born as every night, I can't help it...I am a star gazer. You see bears have some little quirks too. Oh yes...I am really good natured and can" roll with the punches" exceptionally well ...I do think that's has a lot to do with my stuffin being so good. What else...? I love to participate in dogpiles...as I can bounce around real good and can't hurt anybody cause I don't have no joints...he, he....Oh yeah, I'm 14 & 1/8th inch....reason I know that is I growd a little yesterday......Winney
OK..I went out shopping for colored flannel, eye cord and nail polish to paint eye backs with in different colors today....ALL DAY... Whew !
My feet are killing me but I and my bear friend Donna had a great time and we stopped for lunch/dinner at a great oriental buffet place called Tin Tins.... where we talked about whatever and of course the bear business .
We went to Target, Walmart, Jo Anns, Michaels and I don't remember where else...In nail polish I found some great iridescent greens, blues, brown, black and white ( so I can change some colors to a lighter color) at Target for .89.
Got some colors at Walmart. The most difficult color to find is brown or bronz and gold..found all but the bronz at Target. I have some different colors of sparkle flakes I can mix into some of the colors...Between her and I we have enough to open a factory and paint eyes til the cows come home next year...LOL..
OK so what's up since I was gone all day...I know you guys are up to something ! OK...I will go read up on the board now...Hey, huggies to you all !........Winney
What great stories...Shelli I can feel how you must have felt meeting a racoon in the dark !Scary and Spooky! That's a funny story about them playing in the back yard. Racoons are such funny critters. I don't much like spiders ...ewww, Laura you ate a black beery spider? They are huge and so gross looking...I see them all the time guarding the best side of a black berry bush. If you even touch their side of the bush near their web they will pounce on you...Scared my city slicker sister in law to death ...she ran all the way back to the house grossed out with only a few berries in her bucket. Her remark was " You didn't tell me they were that big !".
One early Fall morning my husband went out to warm the car up and happen to look over at our neighbors front yard where they had raked up a huge pile of leaves. What caught his attention was some movement...a skunk was on top the pile as was jumping straight up and straight down with stiff legs, toes splayed pouncing on that pile over and over again . It was the funniest thing you could imagine ever seeing . Another morning that skunk was playing with the neighbors cat..they rolled over and over eack other and played chase back and forth all over the lawn.
Living in Oregon for many years I have seen a lot of wild animals playing just like cats and dogs do....Winney
