I think it would be kind of hard to make it in one piece - any reason why you can't just cut two circles of felt, cut another smaller circle the size to fit the bears head out of the centre of one and then sew both circles together around the outside and turn the seam to the inside and pull it on the bear's head at a jaunty angle. If it is for a larger bear you could sew a narrow band (folded in half) around the head size circle to give a more finished edge. (If it is for a miniature bear this would be harder to do and might add too much bulk).
Just the sweetest!
Adorable!
Very cute, Shane! Love his nose and matching knit scarf and hat!
Stearnsy bears are made by Sally and Jim Stearns of Stotts City, MO. There are a couple of pages on them in Linda Mullins first book on bear artists (Tribute to Teddy Bear Artists). Says they started making bears in 1981 - no idea if they are still making bears or not????

"The Golden Toby" ?????
I figured this would happen, but am a bit disappointed as I haven't entered the awards for a while now and thought I would try the GT's this year after missing the Toby deadline.
I have just put little Tomas on Bear Pile. He is 2.75" tall, made of a vintage rayon pile, fully jointed and wearing a silk ribbon and jingle bell.
Lynn, that is just horrible that they would do that to you - and to not pay you for sales you made prior to the merger is just so wrong! Shame on them! I really do hope there is something so much better waiting for you. Best wishes and good luck in the future.
Hi Sheree,
Yes, I am the one who made that bear set pictured in Nancy's book. That was my first one and since then I have done many more and some of them have had different animal heads and accessories. I have used snap fasteners on all of the ones I have done so far but have also thought that the rare earth magnets would work really well too. I am a doll collector so got the idea from seeing sets of dolls with interchangeable heads. They are a lot of fun and as you said, making the head is the most fun part! Here's a picture of another one I did in a smaller size - I think this one was about 3" tall.
Thanks, Francy! Always so nice to hear positive comments!
