Jane,
My dog's name is Zeus...she is pyranese/shepard mix..lol I know...isn't that a "he" name...not a "she" name...Well she was pretty furry & tiny when we got her & I didn't check to see which she was until she was already named...

It's really fun getting to put names with faces here...so even though I too hate having my picture taken...I figure if you all can do it...so should I...

Vicki, It's so hard when someone we love dies, but perhaps this poem I heard read at a friends funeral might help in some small way.

  THE DASH
I read of a man who stood to speak At a funeral of a friend. He referred to the dates on her tombstone From the beginning...to the end.     He noted that first came her date of birth And spoke the following date with tears, But he said what mattered most of all Was the dash between those years. (1934-2006)     For that dash represents all the time That she spent alive on earth... And now only those who loved her Know what that little line is worth.     For it matters not, how much we own The cars...the house...the cash, What matters most is how we live and love And how we spend our dash.     So think about this long and hard... Are there things you'd like to change? For you never know how much time is left, That can still be rearranged.     If we could just slow down enough To consider what's true and real, And always try to understand The way other people feel.     And be less quick to anger, And show appreciation more And love the people in our lives Like we've never loved before.     If we treat each other with respect, And more often wear a smile... Remembering that this special dash, Might only last a little while.     So, when your eulogy's being read With your life's actions to rehash... Would you be proud of the things they say About how we spend our dash?     By Linda Ellis

Whew...finally...lol...Yes a commercial art paper by Bienfang called Designer Series Parchment No. 100 Tracing Paper for pencil, pen, markers, charcoal, pastels. I simply traced the wings I wanted to make, using a black colored pencils, then colored it in with various other colored pencils. I put florist wire along the top edge on some & and all the way around on others. I placed the parchment designs on an oven proof glass tray and ran a bead of  Liquid Sculpey around the egde of the wings, being sure to keep the wire in place. Then I put a little more sculpey in the center of the wings. I used a piece of wire to spread the sculpty as evenly as possible. One set of wings I carefully added glass seed beads along the bottom edges. I baked them at 300 degrees for 15 minutes ( the suggested temperature from the manufacturer for getting a more transparent look. I then removed the wings from the oven & put them in hot water for a few minutes(which also seemed to make the wings curve slightly, which was a pleasant surprise), and the parchment paper slid right off the wings, leaving the color on the wings.
LOL I know...that was more than you asked...but I just wanted to share the process I used.

Glad you like them Bonnie.

firstwings.jpgHere are my first wings.

makafelts

I have been experimenting with Liquid scupley all day, making different wings. I discovered that good quality parchment paper works really well. I have no photo paper at this time, so I printed the patterns I wanted out on my ink jet printer & then traced the desired wings onto the parchment paper with a black colored pencil, then colored the wings in with the desired colored pencils. Put wire on & added the liquid sculpey and baked. I have the last set of wings in the oven right now! I will get pictures later on & post the results.
Thanks so much for all the inspiration & tips & links posted here!!!!

I got some Liquid Scupley!!! Can hardly wait for the time to try making some fairy wings...this topic has been such an inspiration for me...Thanks to all who have posted here!!!

One thing many forget...athlete's warm-up...and stretch...we are athlete's in the respect that we do repetative work for hours on end without warming up or stopping to stretch... I used to work for a beaded clothing designer, doing bead work on leather & suede & I put a stretching diagram on the wall in the bead room. There were a lot less problems with stiffness & soreness after that...also remember your eyes...they get strained doing the kind of work we do...take a few minutes every so often focus on something far away...and there is also the thing you can do to rest your eyes, where you rub your hands together very fast, till you feel heat, and place one hand, sort of cupped over each eyes..making a warm, dark resting place.
That's what I try to remember to do....

Dilu,
Great idea..I even have some of those things somewhere..will look for them tomorrow in daylight. I use a spare needle to hold the wool I am working on for the little stuff which helps keep my fingers out of the way, but for the larger stuff that doesn't work so well... Great tip!!!
