1. Do you needle sculpt your eye sockets? Sometimes; more frequently lately.
2. If so... how do you do it? Do you needle sculpt BEFORE setting your eyes? Before.
3. After? N/A
4. What kinds of stitches do you make? Tiny ones in a circle? One big stitch, near the center? Inner corners? Tiny ones in a circle.
5. Where do you insert/exit the head? Behind the ears? At the neck? At the neck. My <bear's> ears are never on at this point.
So aren't you shooting yourself in the foot, so to speak, if you tell the reserve?
Never ... just my opinion. In fact, I welcome the question. If John Doe wants to buy my widget or bear or whatever, he now knows what my bottom line is. If he waits until two seconds before the auction ends to place his bid ... hooray for him and hooray for me. Hooray for him because he probably won it. Hooray for me because it sounds like it wouldn't have sold anyway had he not just bid the reserve.
The trouble with giving out your reserve is that what then can happen is that you then make precious little more than your reserve. If you tell someone the reserve they then wait till the last minute and bid the reserve and get the item.
..whereas if you don't tell what your reserve is and people want the bear they will bid till the reserve is reached..
Exactly! This is a very GOOD thing IF you have set your reserve at the amount you want, rather than your bare minimum. Just because the reserve is met is no guarantee the bidding will go up, and once that reserve is met, that baby is sold. Don't shoot yourself in the foot by setting your reserve too low.
It's all a matter of personal opinion and comfort level. I sell like I bid I guess. I don't watch continually, i.e., don't keep looking back to see if the reserve is met. If I know the reserve of the item I want, then I know the price I have to meet or beat. I have the information I need to decide if I should stop watching NOW, because $15M is out of my range, or if I should come back to battle it out at the end. I tend not to set reserves, or watch items that have them. If I ask for one, I normally say something like "I've been watching your auction. Would you share your reserve please? I understand perfectly if you'd rather not. Thanks." If I don't have the information I need to manage my time, I can live without the item I figure.
I also don't think that sharing the reserve gives unfair advantage to anyone ... cuz anyone is free to ask.
so psychologically speaking paying for the reserve, and keeping it private, doesn't that help you in the long run?
I don't see it. Again, just an opinion.
I guess the most important thing is that Miss Tracy be safe from scams and happy in her sale.
Agreed, and that's fact.
You should give this information (the reserve). I don't think it's meant to be a secret, and in fact, lots of folks add what their reserve is in their description. It likely means he's seriously looking at your bear.
However, you cannot ... I don't think ... make a private sale during an active auction. I would think Ebay might think you were trying to avoid final value fees.
Edit 1: Hmm ... I'll do some digging. Never heard of a rule forbidding the reveal of a reserve.
Edit 2: http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/lis … serve.html Nothing in there about not telling the reserve if someone asks.
Dilu ~ You would pay for reserve pricing to make sure you do not have to sell your item for lower than you want, as you said, but ALSO want to set a low starting bid. http://pages.ebay.com/help/sell/reserve.html
Having said all that ... Singapore inquiries should be treated carefully.
I guess I'm old-fashioned, though--I prefer my bears quiet and cuddly instead!
Me too Mindy. Thanks for Hansa briefing. Very interesting.
Make a four piece body. Fattest bears ever!
Hooray for Bronwen and Kerynn!
There is one big problem with Donna's ultimate stuffing tool. I find I use much more stuffing cause it packs in so much tighter!
Oh I know! You can REALLY stuff with that sucker! I just stuffed a head so hard I thought I was going to have to take some out to get the disc in. Problem isn't with the tool though Marion, it's with us!
Thanks everyone! I'm going to place an order this weekend!
What's PVA?
I'm spending a fortune on fray check etc, would love to try this!! Or any alternatives!!!
Me too! (And Fraycheck smells BAD!)
Clare with the new avatar! CUTE!
I won't even try a mini Kim, so looks good to me!
Sandy ~
So sorry to hear about your loss, but glad with you that she is done suffering.
Gotta love Times Square!
George & Martha are wonderful! (Roslyn too.) Hey ... I have a friend I could bum a room from in Baltimore!
Can certainly see why the "pairs" are a hit!
Wow, bright pink! Very nice.
I love these kinds of cards, and these are VERY nice. Any idea if Jennifer sells from a website or Ebay?
Thanks Mindy.

Thanks Mindy.
Thankfully haven't placed order yet. Will include smoked topaz too! Thanks SueAnn!
Judi ~ Thank you so much. That's all the info I needed. Key word = subtle. Thanks.
Shantell ~ Thanks for askin'! I'm up to my eyeballs with the studio. As usual, making everything more difficult than it needs to be. As soon as Dave (the contractor and good friend of ours) gets his mess out, I can start painting. I've already decided I want to do a crackle paint effect on the stairs. Benjamin Moore makes a special top clear coat for high traffic areas. THEN ... I've found a lady who makes hand made braided rug stair treads to protect.
THEN ... I get this idea ... well ... if I do that ... why not paint the FLOOR too, and find a braided rug or two or three.
On my way to Home Depot now to look for fluorescent lights for light closet. Lowe's didn't have exactly what I need/want. And oh, a stop at the freakin' paint store and ....
I should have said "Why thank you for asking Shantell; it's coming along just dandy."
HAAA! Meantime ... bears in pieces on kitchen table and family eating fur in the meatloaf.
I'm just gonna order them.
Heather ~ The results of others is lovely, but it's not a process that appeals to me.
Will have to noodle that one.
Thanks.
Anyone?
Okay, just hold them up to a piece of mohair and snap a photo. Pwitty pweeze?
settle for schnapps and ice tea, the hot tub and the chocolate. sigh.... :)
Settling? In my world, that isn't settling.
Anyone have a picture of Intercal's dark topaz eyes installed in a bear? (I guess you install them, don't you?)
Thanks!
Shari ~
Just take care of yourself and don't let this upset you. This thread is a blip. You'll come back from surgery and we'll still have people using glue and not using glue. We'll have blips while you're away, and we'll have some more when you return. You didn't do anything, or say anything wrong.
Just take care!
