Good Call Ed!
OH LYNN honey not to worry....The internet has opened up the world to us all and we are a little spoiled
thinking we can get anything from anywhere. In the long run aren't wqe lucky to have so much of the world at our fingertips? It might be viable in NS just not Oregon.....Who knows?
hugs
dilu
Well, alls well......
clever of you to remember in the midst of all to have her block her door. How scary. It underscores the facts of life in our world.
So glad your daughter is OK and back in her home and everyone can rest better tonight. Maybe?
Praying for some peace and relaxation for you and your family.

Well, dear Jane, with what as been on your plate the past two years this is a relief! I'm so glad Sarah is safe and sound in a hotel- and hopefully the Bomb Squad difuses the thing with no drama and her home will be safe....
The medication thing can be bit of a sticky thing-perhaps the local hospital? a one time thing? Thanks to Hurricane Katrina the Red Cross is supposedly prepared for the most basic of medications in an 'emergency'....but who knows. I hope to never find out.
Perhaps this is a wakeup call to those of us on meds to have a couple days worth in our purses.....think I will take heed...
Still and all Sarah is safe and you are relieved, in the trying times our world is living through this is a very good thing.

well, Shell
I had forgotten this mag from my life in Europe, so when I saw Lyn's link I was all set debit card in hand- its for the dolls, (isn't that the same as for the children?)
and at the bottom it said "International orders not accepted at this time."
sigh.....
so if you find source let us all know....I use PatternReview to look at patterns modeled by gamin little elfin-like kiddikins. they have Burda and some international designers
http://sewing.patternreview.com/cgi-bin/Authenticate.pl
and you can in desperation buy the patterns-its not as good as the mag. gosh

from someone whose entire shopping experience is by internet and mail:
This past month Seeleys Porcelain doll company etc asked me to open a studio-the main reason would be to get a toe hold in southern Oregon for their porcelain slip. I would get a break in costs for my supplies. a gallon of slip weights 14 pounds and is only shipped in 4s for balance- they wanted me to purchase a pallet of slip, 140 gallons-the shipping via Yellow Freight would have been over $1500....and we would have had to drive 2 hours to Medford to pick it up.
The bottom line for me was that in order to break even on selling Seeley slip, (which I love)
would have had to be 3-5 dollars OVER list price.
I see the oil prices and all the other cocomittant charges as being a death knell for internet business, mail order business, and just maybe a lot of mom and pop business as well.
I had to turn Seeley's down, It just doesn't feel like the right time to think about opening a business-as much as I would have loved to.....sigh.....
I thought you handled your dilemma rather creatively Bobbie, and we will be looking into tyvek mailing envelopes.
on an upbeat note, Amazon still has free supersaver shipping
Bravo to the incredible family; they are wonderful, both in the creativeness and the workmanship
I marvel that you could part with even one of them, as they are so cute and so well done. Daphne it was a brilliant move on your part to help your dad get started on creating these treasures.
dilu
Bravo Gemma,
fantastic job!!!
And I do so understand your nervousness. I got so nervous about ti that I put the whole mess away and never revisited the paint or equipment.....the hubs used my cylindar for beer making-sheesh.....
Judi gave me a great idea about practicing-buy a whole bunch of bears at the flea market or used stuff sale or Walmart and practice on them.....
I suspect it works well, of course I Havn't tried it yet, but......
dilu
Well, the paranoid in me thinks maybe it was so the bear would be easier to examine, take apart and copy in a sweat shop.
Okok.....I said I tended toward paranoia.....
hmmmmm
dilu
O darn, you last post hadnt shown up.....I am so sorry.....
next time don't dither, hon, just get in there and get your place signed up for and then you can brag to us about everything you learned....
I am still green with ency that you got that close!
Thanks guys, i appreciate your kind comments, and Millie, I bet you are kicking yourself, but you know better than any of us the amount of work that went into raising those delightful little fleece-givers....I hope you get your goats again though!
I plan on going over to Tiller and meeting this wonderful lady in person, she is such a delight to write to.
It was alot of fun trying this and I half the rest soaking in hot soapy water....I think there is enough left to make 6-10 wigs....
Regarding my little girlikins- I don't quite have them to the state I would feel comfortable selling them-they may look great, or good, but the porcealin isn
t quite right....they don't feel right, they aren't transluscent enough, and. hmmmmm i could go on....
Judi, my golly porcelain is almost done....I have to finish painting the face.....
hugs and thanks guys
di
as long as it doesn't involve trig....fractions.....long division......
I met on line a gal who raises Angora goats, and she lives about 2 hours away, here in Oregon, and she sold me a pound of shearings from one of her goats....
I now know why it costs so very very much for mohair....the washing process alone took several days-the rinsing took another day, the drying all night and then came the brushing.
imagine baby fine hair never beeing brushed for oh maybe ten years.....
The brusing of enough of the wool to make one wig took 3 movies.....; over several days
then i could make the wig....and after it was glued on I set some of the longer locks on the smallest permenant rods I could find:
And I am quite pleased with the results......
dilu
Oh jeez! I really am sorry about this. What a loss for you.
Hope you can recreate.....
dilu
Oh go for it Michelle....life is much shorter than you want, and is full of infinite possibilities.....
I can quite honestly say I have never been at the death bed of any bear artist and heard them say, "Good golly I wish I had changed my style and branched out a bit more....."
And if you are so new whose to say what your style really is
And if you are firmly entrenched.....well then everyone will say, "isn't she clever, now I simply must have this new style of hers."
AND
no matter if they do not recognize your style right away
someone will come along and love whatever style you produce
and perhaps you haven't really found yourself....I think not if you are new....if you don't experiment you might miss out on something truly revolutionary.
case in point: there is a Talker here who was one of the very first to needlefelt structure into her bear faces. She has gone on to win countless awards, and even though many needlefelt now, and several have tried, no one can quite copy her, because she has her own style....and the awards to proove it.
 So let the genie out of the bottle and let your wild imagination loose on the bear world.....you wont know if you don't try.
dilu
What a sweet story, and Bravo for you not being bitterly dissappointed or angry at your own true love. Life has it ways...you will be repaid for your kindness to the young man, yes we know you weren't kind to get repaid, but that's not your call, What will be will be....you watch, it will happen, and for loving your own honey? Well that will happen too.
dilu
Great story! thanks for sharing.....odds? boy I am sure someone studied stats in college, yuck!
glad you have fun
dilu
