Ahhh, love the Black Hills area. We visited Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Badlands, and Wind Cave national park. In windcave we signed up to take the 'Bucket tour' which is a small guided tour where you have bucket candles. Great because it was a small group....... Wall Drugs was fun.

The Badlands was a last minute stop.....as we were driving we saw all these mountains below us, so stopped to take a look, plan to go back someday, but we have other places and things to do first.

yup....Persian Lamb. They make beautiful bears, a  little difficult to work, but not too bad (not like rabbit that flies all over the place)

Thanks for the well wishes. We were without power for about 8 hours on Tuesday, no phone or internet for 36 hours......Help! No TT for 2 Days !!!!! (how did I survive that?) The community that we go to church in was without power for about 3 days, I'm not sure they are back on yet. A neighboring community had a tree fall on a house and split it in half, no one was home, so no injuries. It ws really a nasty storm, lots of trees down, but even though people said they saw Funnel Cluds, the Weather Service (and other powers that be) said the damages were from Straight Line Winds, not tornadoes Just heard a news report. More than 1200 homes and businesses in the county are still without power. I heard of only a couple of deaths due to the storm, I think overall this area was very lucky.

It is really amazing that the weather can be so nice, turn to so nasty with very high winds and rain, then be so beautiful and peaceful!

I hope anyone else that got nasty weather did as well as we did here.......(I actually took a nap through part of the storm!)

awards.jpgat-the-beach.jpgparade.jpgmt..jpghairpin.jpgtank.jpgroom.jpgfender.jpgHi everyone, my name is Pokey (David calls me Almost (roadkill) I am a Oposuum that is also a tank bag and purse. My buddy is Lil Dipper, a bear. We ride on Mom & Dad's Motorcycles. I hope you will let me tell you about our trip this past week! It was a blast! We went to Lake George, NY where Americade was happening. This is the Largest Motorcycle Rally in the world.

First thing on Tuesday morning, June 3, we set out in the clouds. It was kind of cool with a chance of rain. We headed south through the Adirondack Mountains, stopping for breakfast in Long Lake and a picture (that's me on Mom's front fender, not where I usually ride) We finally reached Newcomb, then hit Rt. 87 South. We had to stop at a rest area to get rain suits on.....heavy rain and some sleet, didn't feel too good. Finally! we hit Lake George and registered for the activities. Our Motel was really nice, on the west side of the road, on a hill and we could look out over Lake George.

At 1:30 we headed to the RBR conference Center and got registered in the Stuffed Animal Competition. I was nervous, but Lil Dipper calmed me down (he was here last year). As the judges came around, I sat very still and upright. Mom explained that I am an original design that she made, I sit on her tank held on with suction cups, then hang on to her belt with a caribiner (whatever that is!) The judges made some pleasant comments,. then moved on to Dipper, where Dad explained that he was made from rain suit material, with a matching fur head and a hood!  The judges moved on, taling with the other people,. There was a couple there from Utica, NY that had some hand made animals on their bike also. THEN! finally, the judging ended and the winners announced. I was so proud when Lil Dipper took 3rd place, was happy but nervous when the couple from Utica took 2nd. But, Boy was I shocked and happy when the first place winner was announced.....ME!!! Mom got interviewed and we got our picture taken. After meeting some friends for dinner, we went back to the room and got some rest.

On Wednesday, we met our friends and got in line for a ride. The ride took us south and west ending at a Dude Ranch (the horses weren't out yet, not their season) We took a train ride North for about 1 hour along the Hudson River, the engine switched from one end of the train to the other and we made the hour ride back south, having a nice buffett lunch at the ranch. We made our way back to Lake George to the Beach where the vendors were all set up.....so much Motorcycle stuff.....and People!!!!!!

Thursday was a great day. Still cloudy and threat of rain, but we took off heading for Manchester, VT where we met up with other bikers for another great buffet. After the lunch, we took a ride up Mt. Equinox.....this is advertised as the steepest paved road in the northeast. It is about 5 miles long, with lots of Hairpin turns (you can be sure I hoped my suction cups didn't give out!) At one of the rest stops along the way, you can look out and see the monastary that is here. When we got to the top, it was OK, but the clouds came in quickly and you couldn't see much, but Mom took some picutres anyway. The ride back down the mountain was scary.

Friday morning we went to a spot where the STAR touring and riding club had a breakfast set up. After that, we went back to the beach and got a new rear tire on both bikes. Then we took off down the Northway to Albany, so Mom could visit her Mom and Dad. We returned to Lake George and went into the Great Escape for dessert and fireworks......awsome fireworks!!!! The 2 mile ride back to the motel took us over 30 minutes.....you have to remember that there were over 60,000 motorcycles there.

Saturday morning we met another couple for breakfast< then we lined up for the parade The parade route was through town to Prospect Mountain, another uphill climb, but not as steep or long as Equinox. This was a nice view, although again cloudy, of Lake George. Saturday was very hot and Mom and I got a little too hot, so we went back to the motel, turned on the air conditioner and chilled out. Mom went swimming, it was 73 degree water, brrrrr. We met friends for dinner. Sunday morning, we again met up with these friends and headed back North to go home.

It was a very long, muggy, hot, cold, wonderful week, and I can't wait to go back next year! Today we have to travel about 3 hours (each way) to bring the doggie back home, he spent the week with Grandma and her new dog.

Thanks for letting me share, sorry I got so wordy......hope you like the pictures.

Pokey (as told to Pandamac)

Greetings Gemma and all others.........fun to read about you and get to know you all a little.

How long have you been making bears? I made my first bear as a church project in 1995 or so. I stafrted 'EmBears in 2000

What is your greatest achievement so far? So far, the greatest achievement I acheived so far happened this week. My husbands bear won 3rd place, and my opossuum tank bag/purse won 1st place at Americade, the World's Largest Motorcycle rally held in Lake George, NY in early June. (I will post pictures in another post later)

What is your favourite thing about bear making? My favorite thing about bear making is that I am my OWN BOSS!!!!!   I love watching the bear (or other animal) come to life. Actually, probably my favorite thing is watching people at shows pick one of my bear 'skins' and stuff it and give it life.

What is your favourite bear if you collect and/or make them?  (Can be your own or someone elses etc). My favorite critter is the one I am holding at the time..............

What other hobbies do you have? I enjoy (but don't have time anymore) cross stitch. I play flute and Native American flute, and I direct our Church Choir. Camping, canoeing, reading......Motorcycle Riding!

Come on everyone.....let's see more replies!

As I sit here at my computer this morning, the Northern Oriole is attacking the liquid, orange and jelly in his feeder at one window. At the other window the Hummingbird attacking his feeders. I used to have music on my website, then we put a button to turn the music on if the person wanted to. Too many people check sites out at work, and don't want others knowing what they are doing. Since I usually have music on in my house, I don't want it on the computer.............

Love watching bunnies.....when I see one in the back yard, I whisper "Hi Bunny" and watch him, hoping that Ti doesn't go out and bark at it!

Wonderful picture!
