Teddy Talk: Creating, Collecting, Connecting

Hi I just saw on TV the fires in Oregon and i know we have a few members in that state. How is eveready? I hope that it is not close to any and that it is under control soon and everybody is safe. :pray:

Fascinating to read about these OAK bears! I do agree that it will be ridiculous to think a designer will make a pattern for each bear he or she makes....for life? I can make more than one bear that looks the same but.....I don't want to, it will be boring!! That does not mean I make a new pattern for each of my bears. Like many of you said in here, I do interchange the bear patterns parts or alter them to have the look of a bear I have in mind at the moment. We all know that, a little more trim, a difference in eye placement or size, a different nose, not talking about the actual bear size, makes a bear completely different,  ( even a boy or a girl!! ) the picture in here, prove that. They are made out of the same pattern, same Mohair and color, same size, just different trim, eyes sizes and placement and embellishment. I enjoy making bears and a BIG part of  the enjoyment is how different they come out, same pattern or not! Many times and I am sure that I am not alone in this, I had in mind a girlbear and ..."it" decided to be a boy!! A lot of people that collects but, do not make them are "dificult" when they like a particular bear  and ..it is gone!! I think that is right to just say :- I am sorry. It was one of a kind bear:-
I am curious...I will like to know how many of you designers, are collectors too. I am not selling my bears now but, I am a collector and many times when I made a bear for a family or friend I do fall in love ..and have to keep him or her and make another one hopping I will not fall for it too ! Has that happened to any of you?

Hi Irene I am so happy for you!! Very nice of your husband ! When in there go look in their trash binds! I have a friend that she always go and check them up. She has send me beautiful pieces of Mohair  from their trash bind! It is only for Mohair ( nothing dirty) .

I agree is great to "meet" all the fur babies ( and the real ones too! )It is true that pets gets to be a big part of our families.
Thank you Nina! German Shepherds are really great dogs. It is our, my husband and mine, favorite breed of dogs. We have had, through the years , 8 GP. Two of them we got in a rescue center, they were males, one black and the other white Rajah was his name, with the most beautiful eyes I have never seeing! Rajah was only 10 month when we got him and he was very abuse, he was missing some teeth because the owner had knocked them off! He did live, a happy life, till he was going to be 15 years old, he got Cancer, bone and lung and the vet was not able to underestand how he was not in pain! Such a sweetheart! I have to see if I can, some how put a picture of him here. The black one Midas that we got at the same time, was not abuse. The lady that bough him did not know about the breed and had a very small apartment, at 14 month old ( that was when we got him)...he outgrow it! Midas was so big ( both of them were over 150 pounds each! ) and he was so good too but, a rare thing on GS he got Leukemia. We had him in the hospital for ten days but, even if he fought hard ( we all did!! ) he lost his battle, he was only 3 years old.
These two girls that we have now, we got from a friend, their mom had 9 puppies and it was her first time, she was overwhelm and refuse to feed them!! We got them when they were not quite one month old. They are very sweet too, like you said German Shepherds are good  dogs . You do have a full house!! In ours everybody gets along well and Mag, the baby, is the one that everybody "listen" to..even the cats!!

We, my husband and I, love pets!! I already show in here my two cats and I can not  post the pictures again but, here are my girls Bianca and Bella ( 4 years old sisters ) German Shepherd and the family baby ( will be two yeas old on September ) Mag, short for Magic, a Cocker Spaniel.

Hi Kassie be as mushy as you want my dear. It is funny because I am feeling on the "mushy" side myself today! I can not drink!! What is that all about Seasoning Peach tea? Is that good? Hope that you are feeling better Renae and that we can chat in here again. I made a Mom Golly for my little one. these are the pictures of "Oma". Poor lady Golly, she has a cabinet shelf full of Golly kids but, like you can see, she is taking everything with a smile.
I am going to listen to some happy music and see if I can get off these "blueness" that have come over me

Oh Sophie they are toooooooooooooo cute!! They make me remember mines when they were little! I have two, brother and sister and they were born by the side of our garage, they were abandone by their Mom   and my husband found them and brugh them to me. They were with their eyes barely open, we bottle feed them and they turn out to be so loving!!

Hi Clare
How about Acrilic Varnish? I use it to seal my bear noses and have to be careful not to touch the Mohair or will stiff-up. I will put a little at a time on the area you want it and comb it trough. The good thing about it is that if you don't like the effect before it drys, just take it off with watter.

Sorry Shantell   I DO understand how you feel...My "flower problems" are ...Bella and Bianca!! My two dogs..I know, I know..You teach them   I have never had this problem ( that lasted!! ) with my dogs and we always have had, at least , a couple at a time. These two, it does not matter what we do ..they still do ruin our plants!! We think they are "cure" and start planting again and, one day, we go out and...they ARE GONE!!! I think we are giving up
Well ladies, I only have  couple of names for the Anime Golly swap. Let me tell you, how it is going to be done ( if we all agree and want to do it) I will write the names of the people that wants to participate, each on a piece of paper and folded ( more than once!!   ) put them in a hat ( or box!!  ) and draw a couple of names at a time, write the names down on a list, those two will swap between themselves. I will keep on going till we have our pairs. If we have left over person, I am sure that somebody ( me included ) will have a extra Golly  to swap
Does everybody agree? Do we want to do it or not? Please let me know, we are already on August ( WOW! ..this year is going by way too fast for me!! ) and remember the Challenge is till the end of this month.

Thank you Sue Ann and Dilu. You guys make me feel sooooooooo happy that you, that are so good at what you make, like my Gollies!!  The Ballerina ( I need NAMES!! HELP PLEASE!!!! ) her eyes are not onyx ( the baby's are ) her eyes are... .Do I dare to say it?? Plastic   Like I said...for me ..ANYTHING goes for Gollies! The Ballerina.....I think I got a name!! What do you think about "Trina Ballerina"?? Her arms have armature too, like you can see she loves to pose for the camera!! The baby, you can not see it too good ( the photographer' fault!!    ) but, he has a little belly bottom. Now I am making his Mum...I think he is too young for her sisters to take care of him
You are right Dilu, we sometimes forget how small the world gets on TT!! Our beloved Gollies are being meet by a lot of people!!

Hi you guys. I am dead tired after the joys of house cleaning but, like I told you I am going to show  you guys in here the Anime golly ballerina I made for my friend's "B" day. I was going to make her dress pink because I have the pink ballet shoes ( I do...where ...? That is the problem!! ) I end up making her shoes and her out fit blue, to match her blue eyes. I did made a little Anime golly baby. He has a pink ( heart shape ) mouth. I put an armature in his arms and that way he can "suck" his thumb . Both of them are made out of flannel and their mouthes are felt, their eyes are onyx and the Ballerina ( does not have names yet!! ) has Mohair hair nd the baby I don't know the nema of the fabric, is one of those fabrics that i see and I say to myself...I can used this one day!! I am sure you guys know the 'feeling"
Ok I better go and have a cup of coffee i do need it after all that work!!

Good morning ( or good evening! ) We like kitties soooo much that we can not wait to see them!! It is true that taking the two will be so ideal! My cats are brother and sister and, when they are left at home ( you go shopping or just out,, ) they keep company to each other but, you know what is better for you, even if i am sure a "few" of us in here, will want to be close and take the other!!
Make God help you to pick the right one for you.

Thank you Renae! I am so glad that you guys like the challenge and that  people that never maybe thought they will make a Golly, are making them and ..having fun!!! They are a lot of fun and you are right  Renae, one of the wonderful things about Gollies is that, like I  said when we started..Anything goes with them!
I just finished another Golly, a ballerina, that is going to a a friend and a baby boy ( I think I am keeping him! ) I will take pictures tomorrow to show you guys.

Oh Jodi your cats are gorgeous and they look so well behave! One of your cats looks like my Zippy. Mines are Zippy and Tiny what are yours names? My Zippy's face markings are different, she has the nose divided in half ( right at the center ) one side light  color and the other half dark divide by a darker line.  Mines will not sit like  yours in the picture too often! They do quarrel and my dog Mag ( a Cocker Spaniel) is the referee!! Is a Zoo in this house!!

Sue Ann, I am with Shelli and Dilu. She is GREAT! :clap: Like Dilu, I will love to have her come to live with us!! Do be part of the swap PLEASE :pray:  Gollies are fun to make and  they bring a smile every time you pass them by!
The construction of a Golly, really is not too different from a Raggedy Ann  doll, some of them you can make more like a bear ( jointed  ) but, one way or the other they are GREAT!

Thank you ladies! I like, from time to time, to make other than bears,  I do too make dolls, and Gollies! Not that I'll never get tired of making bears but, just a little change make your creatives juices flows! This "Monkbear" I made for a friend that, is allergic to MOHAIR Not good, when you like bears and monkeys!! He is made out of "fake" fur. I made his banana too, with felt, like I made the ice cream cone for my Anime Golly. Talking about the Anime Gollies. Have you decided if you want to participate on the swap? I know that maybe some of us will,  or already have them promise to friends, or being the first you made, want to keep it yourself. I do understand. Just let me know one way or the other. Thanks

A kitty! How wonderful!! I do trust my cats around my bears. My dogs?  That is a different thing! Here are two pictures of my my cats. They are  5 years old ( a boy and a girl ). He (the dark grey and white ) is such a lover boy!! He loves to be with you and be love! She is more calm and lady like.

You did a beautiful job with all of her and no...not good if she could hide chocolate!! I do like to work with Cernick ( another kind of clay ) but, at this time of the year, I do not like the idea of turning up the oven!!
