Thanks for the info on the lights Krista.
Forgot to say - great pics!
What type of lights did you get Krista - and where from? I really need to look into lighting, especially now that I am photographing beads - bears aren't too bad, but beads are a royal pain!
Contact Edie Barlishen here on TT - she will probably know his maker. He is gorgeous - lucky you!
Gorgeous panda - love his face.
Ouch, Ouch, Ouch - that was funny.
My hubby and I decide long before Christmas what we would like - I'm getting a "glass class with Sherry Bellamy" this year - can't wait!
Great idea Paula - I have done mine. I'm not clever like all you lot, and can't "put it together" from bits and pieces, but I have chosen a Christmassy picture with one of my favourite bears.
Thanks everyone - you make me feel quite embarrased. My friend came and picked him up today, and was really pleased with him. I still have a little bit of that fur left, so I hope it is enough to make another, as I was quite pleased with how he turned out. Knowing me though, I will just have to "muck" around with him and do some airbrushing - I'll try to control myself.
Yes, Shelli, I have been lampworking. I had a table at a craft fair a couple of weeks ago, and was madly getting ready for that. I could have saved myself the trouble though - there were very few customers come in the door! It was the worst attended craft fair I have been to in my 30+ years of doing various types of fairs. Anyway - back to the bears for now. I find it very hard to do both bears and lampworking at the same time. They are both so intense that I need to concentrate on only one at a time. So it may be a case of a month of bears and a month of beads.
It is quite possible that it isn't the mohair, but the treatment that is put on the backing that you are allergic to. Have you tried rinsing one of your pieces in warm water and then hanging it to dry. This will however effect any style the mohair had - distressed, etc. It will all relax, and the pile will be a bit straighter, but you may not be allergic anymore - it is worth a try.
awww man it isn't available outside of the US...oh well...sounds like fun though, enjoy, great tip!
Hugs,
Krista
Bummer!!!!!
I haven't been making bears for a couple of months, and had to get this order done before Christmas. I am really pleased with how he turned out. My customer wanted him "plain", with black eyes, and no eye whites, and no air brushing - but I just had to wax his little brown nose. He is 12" tall, and comes with his little "buddy" - a purchased mini from Michael's.
If it sounds fishy - then it usually is!
That is really really neat - well done!
Thanks Catherine - that is what I ended up doing.
With not being on here for a few weeks I missed that thread - thanks for sending it.
Thanks Karen - I had to do that - so stupid, as I never had to until now, and I am not sure just what "flat rate" means anyway. I wish they would stop trying to "improve" things.
I have been trying for the last hour to list on Ebay.com. Because I am from Canada, it keeps asking me for a "valid sip code" and says that my postal code is not good enough. I think it is something to do with the shipping options, and I can't figure out how to get around it. Anyone else having trouble?
I just took a look at the bears on the Ho Ho Oh BearZ show site - wow, there are some great bears there. Well done everyone.
I really like the showing of the photo of the artist this year - it makes it more personal somehow.
Love my Sears Kenmore machine - not fancy, but suits me fine. I use cotton machine quilting thread, and always sew all the seams twice. I flip the piece to the other side of the needle between first and second time, so that I am going one way for the first sewing of the seam, and then the other way for the second time.
Thanks Brenda - I'll have to go have a look!
OK, so I don't get out too much - what is a OTT light???
I haven't been here on TT for ages. I have been taking a break making glass beads for a show (that is now thankfully over). So it is back to the bears now for me. I just wanted to say that everybody's creations are just wonderful. I'm not going to comment individually, but give a big "FANTASTIC" to you all. Well done.
It really depends on the style of clothing. Some of my dresses are two piece - a dress and a smock over top. Those can certainly take nearly as long to make as the bear. However, I would have to say the bear overall takes longer.
So sorry to hear about your poor bear, Paula. When I wax a nose I don't put a heavy application on - just a light rubbing of the softened wax block over the nose, then rub with paper. I don't seal it either, as I am worried that any "knock" on his noggin may do what has happened to yours.
I do know that some dogs are quite partial to waxed noses - mine in particular! (dogs that is)
Thanks Cheryl - that gave me a good chuckle this morning!
