Hi there,

Both Bear Basics and Christie Bears sell bees wax for noses.
As for use, if you do a quick search on 'All Bears' blog there is a fantastic post on there with photographs which should really help you :D

A huge thank you to everyone from me too, especially the moderators for such a wonderful and friendly place to visit and be 'beary'.
I know I wouldn't be as far along my bear making skills without the help of this forum and all of you fab contributors.

Thanks everyone. So glad you like him.
And thanks for your comment Paula. The darker parts are simply shading with copic markers.
I would highly recommend giving them a go if you can get your hands on some. Have a practise on some fabric scraps with the different colours and if you go for it, be sure to get a blender pen, you'll be grateful should you make any mistakes.
A quick search on here re. shading should bring up a million responses which should be of help to you.

An absolutely fantastic first bear! I wish mine looked remotely like that.
Did you make the outfit too. He really is gorgeous and what a character. You should be very proud.

WOW! An absolutely fab piece of work Sue. The character and face is simply amazing! Well done all round.

Yes, I agree with Katie. To add girth your best bet is to play around with darts or attempt a 4 piece body. I also really think it helps to have a flatter chest area and to bring the belly out, creates a natural look. Also try looking at chubby cubs and how they're arms are on proportion to the body together with head size.

Hope this helps a little and good luck.

Awww il est tres mignon!
How do you get so much detail? Votre nounours est fantastique.
Passez vous un joyeux Neol aussi?

Thank you and bless all of you.
The fur did come out a little more vintage than I'd planned or I would have worked more with that but hey we learn.
And so glad you can see my look coming out Marilyn. I hadn't spotted it until I saw him next to my Avatar and thought ooo there is something so yay  bear_grin
Shall be sure to try and share many creations with you next year and hope to meet you too Peter (Winter Bearfest by any chance? hehe - planning already!)
Yuletide Wishes to you all.
Hope Santa brings you lots of beary treats.

php8gCJvLAM.jpgGood Day Everyone

And Happy Christmas Eve to you all.
So I've just gotten back from my last drop off of 2010 and it was this little fella named Timothy.
My last bear of 2010 (most likely, unless I stitch really quickly in my days off!!) he is a bit of a difference for me being only 14-16 inches tall.(I can only approximate size as daftly, I forgot to measure him, although I will ask his Mum after Christmas). It was quite fun to make this small size for a change and some parts (stuffing!) were much easier.

He's made from a sparse peppered mohair which is gorgeous and which I had much fun in cutting away to leave just the white showing on his muzzle.
He has wool felt pads with some subtle shading and stitched claws.
His nose is stitch from brown thread and has been 'dry' waxed to add a nice subtle shine.
He has needle sculpt work and shading to his face with cupped ears, also with wool felt inners. He is the owner of Black english glass eyes with emotional whites and a face which I hope cries out for a hug.
He is stuffed with polyester throughout and woodwool/polyester in his head. Finally, he has a cotter pin jointed head and nut and bolt joints through his limbs, being finished with a burgandy ribbon.
I have to admit I enjoyed creating this design and am thrilled with the outcome of proportions etc. I have another Huge guy in the works but I will also be playing with his pattern some more to see what we can do in this size.

Most importantly, his new Mum is in love with him and couldn't hug him enough so I know he's gone to a good home. What more could I ask for as a bear artist?

Anyway, hope you like him as much as his new Mum.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Rich1988

Hey Everyone

Just wanted to post a message to say thanks to Dawn and Wendy (and Victor and Gregory and everyone else behind the scenes) for a really fab day. The awards were such fun and the entries in the fur really were something else.
Had some great chats and was great to meet everyone I did *waves if you recognise me*.

Congrats to all the winners, especially Marilyn (Barling Bears) who stole the show with the Teddy Bear Times Award in addition, definitely deserved.

I have a few photos which I will try to upload (no promises) but if anyone has any others to share, would love to see them.

So thanks again, hope everyone else had a fun day?

Ok time to collapse.

Hey Everyone,

So I am sooo slow at making bears I know, but I have had this done a week, just been trying to find time to take reasonable photographs.

Sam is a whopping 22 inches made from a lovely, slightly wavy, blonde mohair. The photos really don't do it justice, it's a gorgeous colour and is really soft. He has been carefully scissor and needle sculpted with English Black Glass Eyes and one of my big hand embroidered noses. He has wool felt paw pads and has been stuffed with Polyfill, Polyfill/Woodwool mix in his head, with a pouch of steel shot deep in his belly for added weight. In addition, he has a traditional millboard growler which makes a beautiful sound.
He has been completely designed and made by me, with nut and bolt joints for all the limbs and a classic cotter pin for the head.
He's actually based on my 'William' design which has been nominated for a BBAA this year.
He is beautifully finished with a classic red ribbon.
Sam would love a hug and a new home and is actually available for adoption.
If anyone is interested please drop me an e-mail or PM for further details. He is £200 including deliver to the UK.

Hope you all love him.
