Hi all,
I am sure that this has probably been a topic before, but I am having a hard time finding it.... I hear a lot of rave about oil paints for highlighting/shading bears. Are these just regular oil paints, or special ones? And if they are regular ones (like one would buy at a local hobby store) then sorry for the dumb question, but how do you use them, and do they take a long time to dry? Any advice/info on this topic would be wonderful!!!
Thanks in advance!
Kimberly W.
Ha ha, Amanda!!
I like your avatar Panda...
You and your rhymes!
They get me every time!
But do you think they're silly?
I think they're hilarious, really!!
Thank you, everyone for your compliments!! I'd better watch out, or I'll be a swapping addict!!!!
Kimberly W.
Kim,
She looks great! You're really coming along in the sculpting!!!!

OK, this is my last post in here (for now... before we have 38 million of them, ha!)
I was all kinds of worried to send Cassie to you, too! I thought you'd think "they look so much better in the pics.... sigh..." lol I love Delilah! She's sitting downstairs on our passthrough (half wall thingamajig) between our breakfast nook and living room! With her fishie beads!!!!!!
Kimberly W.
Ha ha, this is getting out of hand! We'll have 38 replies in here, all between us!!
You know what, Kim? When I went to PM Stephanie for the new bear swap, I started to call her Kim, too!! Hopefully she doesn't read this! Sorry Stephanie!!! lol
Kimberly W.
Ha ha, don't be embarrassed!!! Take a look at my reply in your post with Delilah!!
Love her, Kim Bee!!! Thanks for making her 'special for me'!!!!
Her bears are SO much more detailed in 'person' (or bear!) than I even thought!!!!!

Hee hee, my husband's name is Chad!
I don't blame you fro wanting to kee this guy; he's so cute!
Kimberly W.
The bride has sewn in hair extensions and has painted glass eyes, which I am pleased with too as the last pair I did made the bear look like a werewolf.
I cackled laughing!!! They are just DARLING, Jenny. I do love your bears and your style.

Love those cute little bears! Welcome (because I hadn't said so yet!) and glad you are here! I would LOVE to see more of your little bears!!!!
Kimberly W.
I use picturetrail too. I really like it; as Kim B says, it's really no nonsense and easy to figure out. And yes, those weekly reports of what photos were the most popular is wonderful!

Oh man, Kim Bee! What a steal! I got a total of about 4 different faux furs from JoAnne, and am loving them! I'm about to list on in the Bears For Sale made out of the pink I got, tonight! I wonder if it's te same pink that you got, Kim Bee!!

Ha ha ha!! After this long weekend, this is the first time I've gotten to check TT... I am SO normal amongst you folks! It's WONDERFUL!!!!
You are right, Kim Bee, we did talk about this before... I just didn't realize just how obsessed-like-me you were!!! I cackled out loud about you hiding the bags in the trash only to tell him within an hour of him gettion home so loud that my husband, downstairs, was like, "What's so funny?" I'm like, "Uh, nothing!" ha ha... I do the SAME thing, thgouh! But it's more like, withing 30 seconds of talking to him. I genuinely feel that he shares the excitement, ha!
That tax and duty is obscene!!! I agree, you guys shouldn't have to pay any extra... I don't see any real reason for it!
Oh and I did it again..... I was at this permanant indoor flea market thing and came across a whole basket of older dangly earrings and was quietly 'ooooing' over how I could SO disassemble them and use the beads for NICE bear garnishes. The lady standing beside me piped, "Aren't they lovely? I could just buy so many of them, couldn't you? Oh, but I have so many already..."
"Isn't that the truth?" I thought....
Kimberly W.
Oh, and Nettie, I loooove that little bear in your avatar! He's got such a cute face! (Ha, in case you guys haven't noticed, I SO focus on bear's faces!!)
Kimberly W.
You guys!! You make me feel soooooo much better!!! I do the SAME things!! I walk into regular stores and start picking apart merchandise, thinking about how good stuff woulf look either on a bear or as a bear!
just the other day I saw these great pillows at a home store, all furry and beautiful and I thought, "Hmmm, I could make a 6' bear with this.... Wonder how much it costs?" It would have made a LOVELY bear, but also I could not afford the pillow! Maybe that was a good thing! lol
I haven't yet gone into an antique store, but every time I see one, my pulse quickens! I think about all the lovely antique jewelry and baby clothes they must have in there, just WAITING to be put on a bear! So to hear all of you say these things makes me feel more, accepted and belonging, ha! It's true! I feel now like I can proudly walk into any store, mull and mumble over bear stuff, scare other customers by picking something up and saying, "Oooo, this would make a lovely bear!!" and just have fun dreaming up these endless possibilties. You guys won't believe the fur I got at JoAnne's! They sometimes get in the most lovely fur!!! This fur will be on an upcoming bear.... soon!
Kimberly W.
Oh yes, and.... Yes, I think that I could use each and every one of these little 'things' I buy for my bears.... I just loooooove variety more than.... well.... I love it!! lol!
Kimberly W.
Ha, I am soooo glad that I have you all... understanding, consoling.... It's nice to know that Youa ll can sympathize with me! Well, I already knew that everyone would have to horde bear stuff to SOME extent! But it is good to know that I don't have a problem... yet..... ha
Dilu, Yes, I do try to feed the kids at least once a day, but I will admit that there have been times when my four year old has come to me, dewey eyed and said, "Momma, are we gonna eat? I'm starving." I get so wrapped up in piecing a bear together and getting those eyes 'just so' that my stomach goes unheard. (Yet, where is this gut coming from???)
And I will also fully admit that, when I am at work, kneading my 23rd ball of Peasant Loaf dough and my wrist starts to ache just so, I immediately think, "Oh no, how can I work on my bears if my wrist is hurt??" and will switch hands, even though my left is far more cumbersome and will inevitably begin to ache far sooner! I will stay up until midnight working on a bear even though I have to get up for work at 3:50. I rationalize by saying, "I can work on this... I'll still get more than 3 hours of sleep..." As a matter of fact, thank the Lord that my boss called me this evening and told me to take tomorrow off, because I wouldn't be here typing right now (I am, even though already I am falling asleep in the chair... call it sleep deprivation... I call it Bearly fixated)
And I think my bears have feelings.... I mean, not literally in a crazy sense.... I don't think they are going to jump up and start dancing. But I think each and every one has a personality, and each one is excited to go to his or her new home. They tell me what their personality is with their eyes, their expressions, their little whole selves. Look at me, I'm getting all windsome talking about my bears' personalities. When I am done with a bear and am ready to adorn him or her, I go to my little supply area and think, "Oooo she'd look soooo pretty in this... Oooo, he'd loooove to wear that!" I am bear crazy. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not a wacko that sits around and does nothing but talks to her bears all day long (disclaimer: if there is anyone out there that reads this and talks to their bears all day long, I mean no offense and didn't mean anything by it! It's OK! ) , but maybe a little piece of me goes into each of those wee little boogers....
