sarahjane

Daphne it sounds like your show is going to be fantastic!!!....The hand made ribbons are a great idea, the ribbons are what make it special for sure!!!

sarahjane

Sending warm wishes to you and your family Penny...I hope your mother in Law improves soon...

I really like them all as they all make sense, but my favourites are number 1,2 and 9

By the Way Renae I really love that poem...I've copied it to keep....thank you for posting it!!!!

sarahjane

Chrissie  thank you

....you put into words what I was thinking but couldn't find the words to express!!!

I would like to add to this that I don't see anything wrong with being self taught and having a preference for that, we all learn differently and should be allowed to do this without any feelings of guilt or inadequacy, one way is not better than another....they are just different!!!

sarahjane

I got 9/10 also...I didn't recognise any of them though.......hmmm maybe I'm not as gullible and trusting as I always thought.

sarahjane

Sounds like a viral rash to me Bron....hopefully it will be better in a couple of days.

A trip to the Docs wouldn't hurt though

sarahjane

I'm sure that the title of this post was....."constructive feedback appreciated"....I don't see anything constructive in destroying another persons self esteem for your own satisfaction. Flamingbear obviously feels differently to this.

I was taught that if critisism is necessary there are ways to do this that are friendly, tactful and helpful to the persons involved and that it is not in anyones best interest to be scathing and tactless.

Shelli and Dilu thank you for putting into words so well how I'm sure most of us here feel about these inappropriate posts.

I am a big believer in Karma and all flamingbear is doing by posting these extremely negative and inflamatory comments is setting herself up for a miserable life.....I hope he/she can learn a kinder more gentle way of doing things in future.

Hugs for everyone

sarahjane

Renae...What is a boodle??

Aleta I hope everything is falling in to place for you and that it is not all too stressful!!

Sending warm wishes and

What about Bidpay....it's kind of similar to paypal I think we use it sometimes to pay for overseas items when they don't accept paypal.

sarahjane

Firstly, Shantell I think your bears are beautiful and uniquely your own, they have a sweetness about them that others (myself included) love.

Second, I too think flamingbear could have been a little kinder in voicing her criticism (well a lot really!!).

When it comes to asking questions about techniques, I am only fairly new to bearmaking and I ask quite a bit, I tend to feel "why reinvent the wheel" if someone else already has the knowledge and is willing to share then this is the way we all learn and grow as bearmakers and also in other areas of our lives. The questions asked here aren't always about bearmaking.

I don't ask questions in order to copy what someone else is doing but so that I can learn a new way or technique, often it is something I have tried myself anyway and I am looking for an easier or better way to do something in order to bring my work up to a more professional standard. I feel that the forum here is very useful way of doing this as those that feel comfortable sharing their knowledge can but there is no obligation to answer a question if you don't want too.

We wouldn't expect new drivers to struggle and teach themselves how to operate a car and we shouldn't expect that in other areas of our lives, if people wish to teach themselves then that is fine too, but even the most brilliant artist probably had some painting lessons along the way!!!

Most people need to learn the skill involved in bearmaking before they can explore their creativity and because after learning this they have the skills necessary that makes the artistry of bearmaking easier as you are no longer having to concentrate on the technique, but on the art instead.

Anyway Shantelle now that I have written a book I do want you to know that I really do think your bears are beautiful and that probably what you are wanting is that really distinctive  "look" that some of the others here have.  Sometimes I think this is really hard to see in our own bears, I think that your bears are recognisably your own and perhaps what you have to do now is just refine what you already have. That sweet, gentle look that the others have already mentioned.

sarahjane

I love  bear_wub  bear_wub  bear_wub  all your orphan bears Jenny and Gordon is wonderful

sarahjane

Definitely rotate hairdoes....that will keep everyone coming back to see what else you've done....although you'll be lucky to still have him after the first hour, I think he's gorgeous and someone is going to want him really fast.

sarahjane

Yep Clare, I don't measure either and it seems to work but like Dilu I have to do the fold thing because I hate it if the curves are different on each side.

Re reading the question I noticed that you were asking about getting more forehead. I do that by changing my side head shape or making the gusset slightly wider ( it depends if you want the forehead higher or wider )

  does anyone understand this?? It's hard to explain in words.

sarahjane

Thanks for the info girls and the update Lisa...I buy both these magazines every time and find them both inspirational.
The new direction Bear Creations is taking sound exciting and I can't wait to see it. I've always found the Aussie magazines excellent and very affordable compared to some of the others. I like the others too but can't afford to buy them as often.  bear_grin

sarahjane

Well I have a very scientific formula I use to design my gussets........... I just eyeball it then guess   (I draw half then fold the paper in half to draw the other side) So far this has worked for me but I'm sure there is a technically correct way to design gussets....I will watch this thread with interest.

sarahjane

Tammy don't worry about your bear yet...3 weeks is only a small amount of time when it comes to dealing with postal services....we have sent and recieved hundreds of items without anything ever going missing.....but boy some of them have been on some really interesting tours to get where they were supposed to go!!!!  One of our items took 3 months to get from England to Australia!! (via Timbuctoo I'm sure  bear_grin )

I'm sure your bear will turn up with an interesting tale to tell!!

sarahjane

Well done Sandra it looks great!!!!
