Many crochet patterns here in the netherlands and europe, like for doilies or curtains or filet crochet are not written but drawings.
Also japanese patterns are mostly drawings.
Do you have experience with these? Do you like them? Do you prefer "written" before "drawings"?
After I had been crocheting for about a year, I decided to set aside the blankets and bears and try my hand at a doily. I had a pattern booklet already but had yet to look through it. I remember opening the booklet and seeing the diagrams and thinking what the heck is this! I was used to written instructions so the diagram was very intimidating...but I gave a go anyhow. I was able to figure it out and it really wasn't difficult at all. However, I think it was easy because I already had a good understanding of crochet. If I was a beginner, I'm not sure I would have even tried the diagram pattern.
Berta,
I am able to read patterns, but when I was starting out I didn't know what any of the abbreviations meant. I remember racking my brain to figure out what yo was! As I was learning, I found it helpful to refer to some magazines I had as they had instructions and illustrations of most of the basic stitches. So, for a beginners class I think illustrations would be most helpful.
Danni, I was being nosey and did a search so I could see who was doing this. I did find a website with a doll holding a bear, but you'll be happy to know that in the description she has an apology to you and states that it's not your bear; she had been misinformed about who the artist was.
Thank you for sharing the wonderful photos, Jenny and Melanie. Your tables look wonderful with all those beautiful bears. I'm glad to hear that you both had a successful day. And of course, meeting some TTers is just the icing on the cake.
Yoo Hoo, Tami, time to get outta bed and draw those names.
Anyone else eager to find out whose name they will get?
Well, that's just terrible. I can't believe she would not change it after being busted by the supposed bear artist. I really don't have any different advice than what's already been given. I hope everything works out. I know I would be boiling over if someone did that to me.

Congratulations, Judi! I agree, I think one of your baby bears would be a great choice.
And as for the secret...that's not fair to tease us, ya know! Come on and just tell us!
Oh, I'm jealous! I wanna go to the craft store too! Ya know, if I went to the basement and finished unpacking, it would feel like I was in a craft store. And a bit like Christmas too, finding all the goodies I forgot I owned!
Oh, Brenda! I'm so sorry to hear of your accident. I hope it will heal quickly.
Our microwave is above our stove and I have hit the door of it numerous times with my head. Now, thankfully nothing serious but it still has that "ouch factor."
It's great to see that so many people have joined in. Tami, your idea has really got me in the Christmas spirit...now I want to go put up my tree!
Wowza, Penny! I love this kitty head, can't wait to see all of him. I think it looks like a "him." And he looks very smug. In my head I'm picturing a Persian, and how most of 'em have that look like their poo doesn't stink.
Eek, that sounds horrible, Helena. I'm sorry I don't have any advice to offer. Just lots of hugs and good wishes for a quick-healing finger!
Wonderful news, Sophie! I bet you're over the moon with excitement! I hope you have a fantastic first day!
Oh, Dilu, what a brilliant couple you've made! Her legs and shoes look fantastic! And the flower girl is gorgeous too. You've really outdone yourself. Bravo!
Best of luck with the show. I hope you have a wonderful time. Wish I were closer!
Thanks for all the well wishes. It really means a lot to me. I'm glad you've enjoyed seeing the pictures. It's so amazing that she won't be here for almost 5 months, yet I've already seen a glimpse of her. It certainly makes it feel more "real". Although I've been showing quite considerably for some time now, it really hadn't sunk in. I didn't have that baby-crazy pregnant lady feeling yet...I bought her her first outfit yesterday!
Patty, thank you for sharing such a lovely photo with us. Your daughters are beautiful. I really hadn't intended on waiting quite this long for the 2nd child, but now I've been thinking exactly what you've described of your own daughters. My daughter, Natalia, calls the baby "our" baby and she is all ready to be the best big sister in the world. She's so cute, lately she's been pulling up my shirt and talking to my belly. I think the age difference is going to be perfect just like you say.
Laura, I've got the sweetest little dress pattern that I crocheted in miniature for a bear, now I can't wait to make a baby-sized one!
Chrissi, huge congrats for your sister! Well, that would be great if he came around to the name since I can't think of any others and I really do love that one! When I had my 1st daughter, we had two girl names picked...Natalia and Isabella. We went with Natalia and while I still like the name Isabella, I don't feel I should name this baby Isabella. I feel like if it wasn't good enough to choose for my first daughter then it's not good enough for this one. Or kinda like this baby is getting the leftovers!
Don't worry, Sophie, we all do it. I always have bears somewhere on my mind anytime I'm shopping!
Can't wait to see what cute little bearies get born from your new fur!
The pic of Charlotte's wings are back on page 5. They are really pretty and very cool!
What a wonderful idea, Tami! I've been thinking of Christmas ornament ideas lately anyway. Sounds like lots of fun and I really like the idea of it being a surprise. Thanks for organizing this.
Congratulations, Melissa! How exciting! I can't wait to see a report from the open house. Best of luck to ya!
Oh, Catherine, how confusing! I'm sorry you're having trouble with ebay. I hope it all gets worked out.
Thank you all so much!
Yes, I think March will be a good month. I get to be pregnant during the colder months which is great since I'm already getting hot all the time.
Tami, this will be my second. My first daughter will turn 4 in January.
Sonya, I had noticed we shared the same b-day. That would be really neat if our daughters shared a b-day too!
Kim, of course she's perfect!
Names? Yeah, I need some help in that area! If it would've been a boy, we already had a name picked, but I have no idea for a girl. I had only thought of one name so far (Jocelyn), but Daniel hates it. I don't think he's gonna come around to liking it either.
Oh, so cute! Kitty looks especially cute in the red hooded sweater!
I had my ultrasound appointment today and just wanted to share the news.
I wish I had my scanner hooked up. I have the cutest pics of her trying to suck her thumb. My daughter is happy that it's a girl because she wants to share a room once the baby gets bigger. I told her she could only if it was a girl, so it all worked out according to her plans!
My due date is March 29, so just shy of 5 months to go!
Edit: Since I didn't have a scanner available, I took digital pics of the ultrasounds. I think it turned out okay.
The first one is of her trying to suck her thumb. And look at these gorgeous legs!
For a teddy bear? How 'bout for me? Fran, this bag is really pretty, awesome work!
