Brush it!  I find that that will help. I often use hair gel which goes really crunchy but after brushing it out it keeps the hair style but the mohair goes soft again.

Purple-bear.jpgHere is my latest big bear.  22 inches standing!  I have only recently started doing big bears but still like to do them totally by hand.  This was made using a combination of mohairs both the same colour (obviously) butthe body was made using a long, sparse, wavy mohair and the rest a shorter, denser, mohair.  This bear is for a friend who is having a baby girl later in April although I am very tempted to keep her!  Please, please post comments especially ones that tell me where to improve!

Ears, eyes ,nose.  But I never do them until the rest of the bear is assembled and stuffed.  After the last stitch of the nose / mouth goes in I give it a kiss and thats when it comes to life!

Happy Birthday to: Felted Teddy, Rich 1988, MasonBears, Lorraine, Cheryls Bears, Cheshire Cat and Peggy!
April has to be the best month!

I think Kyle is a very special bear - well done.  He looks like he knows what a special job he has to aid in healing.

I have decided to take the plunge and order some labels to attach to my bears but I need help with sourcing some labels.  I would also appreciate any advice as to what other people put on their labels and what type do you order?  I was thinking of something that I could put across the paw pad but because my bears vary from 2 -22 inches I thought perhaps one that can be sewn into the seam instead.  My 'business' name is going to be "Fulrfun bears"  - a play on words using my surname (Fuller) and it is also the number plate on our wehicle.  Help me please!  Do you add a phone number for example or an address?  I do not have a website or phone book listing.

I have just been given 3 old sports coats that belonged to a friend's (now deceased) husband.  She wants me to make bears out of them.  As I usually only work with mohair and sew entirely by hand does anyone have any tips for me?  The fabric is quite thick and they should look good but i need help before I start.  Thank you all in anticipation.

I always carry a bit of bear with me as I never know when I will be waiting somewhere!  Someof the odderplaces have been out in the desert on a camping weekend and at speedway!  Although I will admit that now that I have an ebook it gets taken out more than the bears.

I'm so excited after what feels like months of watching a black blob move occasionally I have finally seen the baby!

I have fallen in love with this mouse and want to win her!  I can't get how to leave a comment though. It looks as though I need to send the comments to someone else but I want to leave them on your blog I think!

I also have a copy if you still need one.  Just let me know.

Youch!!

It is also a common occurance with me.  ! was sewing with real fur once which was very difficult and managed to stab myself and break the needle at the same time.  It was only when I found the other end that I realised the bit left in me was the blunt end!

When sewing mini's get some fine fishing line and thread all the pieces on it in the reverse order of how you sew them.  This way everything stays together.  (if you sew your head first put those pieces on last).

If you change a pattern during the construction of a bear make sure the original pattern piece gets seperated I swear if you're anything like me you will not remember which bit you're supposed to be using next time!

I miss it so much and as I was the last to post I can't resurrect it!

I am serious here - the smallest for me is 22 inches! lol

Denise I have found that you get a much better colour if you don't use as much water.  My suggestion is to soak mohair in water to see how much you need then add that amount to the kool aid rather than making it up according to directions.  Hope this makes sense.

I did a lot of child minding in the late eighties and the younger girls were into Carebears.  I instantly became Clarebear.  Several years later a friend sent me a magazine with bear patterns in it saying that with a name like mine I should be making bears.  I didn't even know how to sew a button on let alone make a bear.  I looked at the book for several years before deciding one weekend I was going to make  a bear no matter what.  The bear was not a success by any means but I was hooked!

Clarebear

I use panty hose!  I cut off a small length and knot it at the bottom, fill it with glass sand or steel shot then twist and knot again.  Because it is so stretchy it can be mainpulated really well and you can pull the knots really tightly so that they can barey (bearly) be felt.
