I remember my first bear, A creation from dolls, bears and collectibles magazine. Ivan ( still have the pattern and the bear somewhere lol) He was very embarrassing. his eyes weren't aligned and he was out of shape because the fabric was too stretchy it was a Sherpa wool fabric. You have done very well Richard and you should be proud of him.

Linda I live in Launceston. lol yea I reckon I would be interested in doing something like that. When do you run the next one? and what are the details?

Sherroy

That is Fantastic. I read that. I started doing teddy bears by doing the designs in the dolls, bear and collectables magazine. I still have all my copies I bought back when I was in high school and I still re-read them. They are fantastic and I hope one day to see my designs in there. I am so jealous and proud of you bear_original. I might see if I can find me a copy bear_original

Sherroy

Thank you Joanne this is exactly the sort of things I'm after. I would love to list all the ones everyone knows about. SO if anyone knows any more please post them.

I guess I was wondering are there any other good all-round tutorials that any other people recommend? Free or subscription.

please post.

I know I like to gather ideas on different techniques and some I hadn't even realized existed lol.

Thank you lovely ladies for posting these tutorials so far.

Do any people offer tutorials? I know I wouldn't mind doing some... I live in Tasmania, Australia and haven't found any intermediate to advanced courses.

Sherroy

Aww wish I could enter this but I don't have my blog set up atm. It won't be set u until I have made some bears. My boyfrined thinks I need to prioritize what I'm doing and he says the bears come first lol and then the website and blog lol. He's the boss (he's making the website lol)

Good luck all those who enter!

I have reserved the domain name www.sarchiebears.com - My partner who is an expert in IT will be assisting me with setting it up the site in the near future. My partner has put it up to say sarchiebears coming soon. It makes me feel so excited, I'm finally "doing" something rather then always "going" to. (which means it never happens)

I will update when things are done.

Sam makes me want to create a koala... definitely on my list of creatures to create!

Same, I am going to create one as well, they are such beautiful creatures and unfortunately are dying out because of; cars, dogs and people knocking down their habitats. It will be a sad day when the last one goes. Hopefully in the near future we will have a lot more success in assisting and breeding these beautiful animals.

koala.jpgEarlier this year we had a major disaster, known as Black Saturday. It made headlines world wide. But for those who did not hear about the disaster.

Back in February this year we had a fire that wiped out entire towns and killed many of people. It was one of the biggest, natural disasters in Australia's history.

"Conditions
The majority of the fires ignited and spread on a day of some of the worst bushfire-weather conditions ever recorded. Temperatures in the mid to high 40s (Celsius, approx. 110-120 degrees Fahrenheit) and wind speeds in excess of 100 km/h, precipitated by an intense heat wave, fanned the fires over large distances and areas, creating several large firestorms and pyrocumulus systems, particularly north-east of Melbourne, where a single firestorm accounted for 120 of the 173 deaths. A cool change hit the state in the early evening, bringing with it gale-force south-westerly winds in excess of 120 kilometres per hour (75 mph). This change in wind direction caused the long eastern flanks of the fires to become massive fire fronts that burned with incredible speed and ferocity towards towns that had earlier escaped the fires.
[edit]Effects
The fires destroyed over 2,029 houses, 3,500+ structures in total[14] and damaged thousands more. Many towns north-east of the state capital Melbourne were badly damaged or almost completely destroyed, including Kinglake, Marysville, Narbethong, Strathewen and Flowerdale.[15][16] Many houses in the towns of Steels Creek, Humevale, Wandong, St Andrews, Callignee, Taggerty and Koornalla were also destroyed or severely damaged, with several fatalities recorded at each location. The fires affected 78 individual townships in total and displaced an estimated 7,562 people,[14] many of whom sought temporary accommodation, much of it donated in the form of spare rooms, caravans, tents and beds in community relief centres

Out of the tragedy came a heart- felt story about a Koala that survived the bush fire. she was badly burnt, and extremely thirsty. A volunteer fire-fighter found her and gave her water.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vkXSMZBdTLU - this is a true story please watch the video.
The Koala became known as, Sam. Unfortunately recently, she died due to unrelated problems. Sam became a Black Saturday symbol and I wanted to share her with you all.

She is not quite a bear, but not quite anything else.  R.I.P Sam and the people lost in the Black Saturday brushfires.

I have never heard anyone speak fondly of the magpies. Although my partner, Nick compares girls to them (Like magpies, girls are drawn to shiny things lol). I do love magpies though, they are a beautiful bird and we are grateful for them, but they can be quite a pest and swoop at you while walking in the park, they also try and steal stuff, if they are game enough lol. Koalas are a very beautiful creature, not quite a bear not quite anything else. Actually I'm going to post a story that I hope will inspire you. However it is alot sad aswell. I will find it and put it up in a post...

Sherroy

Ok well Im going to bite the bullet and change my name. My new name shall be, Sarchie. Not too sure if it will be Just Sarchie or Sarchie creations or Bears by Sarchie. What do you all think? Just Sarchie? or go with one of the extended versions?

Sarchie = my first initial, S for Sherroy and Archie  (my last name). Combined together as one word.  It was so fitting when I frist thought of it and I'm so exited to say that no one else is using this name. Not that it is a common word. lol
bear_smile

Sarchie will be developed over the coming months, I am already on my first design and will hopefully finish it over the xmas break. However the first one is just a prototype, made in cheap synthetic but will be re-created in a better quality material when I figure out what type.

I will post a picture as soon as possible and thank you every one that has given me great advice.

Sherroy

thank you all so much. You have been a great help. I guess I shouldn't use the name until I register a business or something?

Sherroy

Hello Everyone

I'm hoping you may be able to help me. I'm looking at creating a name for my creations. Now I'm pretty sure I have found the name but before I suggest it, and get the name stuck in everyone's head lol, I'm wondering How I confirm the availability and do I need to reserve it or do I just start calling myself that? one day soon it will become a business. but at the moment I'm in the designing stage.

I'm not too sure if anyone is able to assist me, as different countries may have different laws etc, but if anyone can give me any advice at all I would be very greatful.

Sincerly Sherroy

Sherroy

bear_grin I wish we had bears in Australia.
