I would recommend just using a glue stick and just glue around the edges of the cotton. The fabric glue will stiffen up a lot where as the glue stick doesn't seem to do that . I have used the glue stick on the entire piece of cotton but it never hardened up like white glue or fabric glue.

Just a suggestion, as you only need to keep the cotton in place until you sew it

So sweet I can't believe he hasn't been snapped up yet, love the colour combination.

I have to agree with everyone else, as a collector I want to see the price. If the price is not listed chances are I am not going to contact the seller, it drives me bonkers when the price is not listed.  I am not sure why a bear artist does that but it turns me off.

Sandi you are so right with the paypal, I use it for everything and I find it more secure and I really hate giving my credit card out online but don't mind if using paypal, at least I am protected.

I still enjoy TB&F a lot I think it's a higher quality magazine than TBR. The last few issues I have received from them are like little flyers I get in the mail. I would love to advertise but the cost is just to much, I certainly hope they can bring back the quality of TBR and actually punch it up a little bit. It's mainly done in black and white a few colour pages and a lot of information on manufactured bears and not so much on artist bears.

Wish we could make it as well, maybe next yr cause I know this yrs event is going to be so fantastic.

Good luck with the event, and we want lots and lots of pics.

I have never seen a curved leather needle that was small enough for me to use for sewing up the seams on a real fur bear. I use a regular leather needle for sewing on ears and sewing up the seams, along with a pair of pliers  bear_grin  bear_grin . Depends on the skin you are sewing through some are much tougher than others.  Someone told me once about checking with my vet as they would use a curved needle for when they do surgery but never did bother.

I always get leery with a private auction, I don't know why I do but to me it's like what are they hiding and I won't bid on a private auction.  It just seems sneaky to me, I mean I don't know any of my friends ebay id's so I wouldn't know if I was bidding against them or not.

Hi Katy,

The way I read it she is not eligible to enter. Quoting your post "for categories 1-8 you must have been born in and/OR living in and trading from Great Britain". Although Aggie was born in Great Britain she is not trading in Great Britain. Unless we are reading it wrong it's the AND portion that disqualifies here as she is not living in Great Britain and trading there. If the rules just said OR then she would qualify so I am not sure if it was just an error in the wording or not.

Example:  for categories 1-8 you must have been born in OR living in AND trading from Great Britain, hmmmmm never mind that other AND just made her ineligible  bear_grin . So Basically to enter those categories you have to be trading in Great Britain end of Story. BUT you could have been born in Great Britain and are now living in the USA but as long as you were selling your bears in Great Britain then you would qualify.

I think I follow it now.   bear_grin

I took a class in the UK with Rostraud Illisch on bear design.  We kind of butted heads a little bit, she is very much a traditionalist when it comes to bear making. On a couple of occasions she walked by me and would look at my bear head and would remove the ears on my bears head ( they were just pinned on at the time) she would move them up to the traditional spot and say to me "Just think about that" as soon as she would walk away I would lower the ears back to where I had them  bear_grin  bear_grin .  It was a wonderful class and I did learn lots but be forewarned that she wants it done a certain way   bear_rolleyes . But still had a lot of fun in the class and she was very nice.

I think a character bear usually means one that is not of a traditional style.  People tend to call our bears character bears as they are quirky and not traditional at all. But it also could represent a certain character I guess.

I have to agree Jennifer Laing's  Teddy Bear Art is a fantastic book to start out with.

Welcome back Louise and Garnet, yes you have been missed and can't wait to see all the new things you guys have been working on. Glad that things are slowing down for you and that you can get back to creating.

Hi Jane,

I shipped a bear to Australia a few yrs ago and it also went by surface. It took a very long time I think three months at least.  I finally made a claim with the post office and as soon as I started that process I got an email saying the bear had arrived. I wouldn't worry I am sure it will get there it's just on the slow boat to Australia LOL.

We always have Turkey at Thanksgiving and at Christmas, Easter is always ham.  Happy Thanksgiving to all the other Canadians on the list hope everyone had a nice day. Went to my sisters this yr and she had two smaller turkeys and sweet potatoes, coleslaw , mashed potatoes two types of stuffing and three pumpkin pies LOL (this was four people ) so yes I did bring left overs home, there is nothing like a turkey and stuffing sandwich with cranberry jelly the day after yummmmm.

I use the Copic system with a compressor. It is true that you can't get super fine detail but it is good for doing shading around the yes and on the ears. I have managed to get very good control out of it and done the paw pads as well. Depending on the amount of shading you do, the markers can last a fairly long time. I still prefer the shading I get using it than just using the maker on it's on. I also have the entire set of prisma markers which I have used from time to time. A pen will last me a fairly long time, it's not going to run out after a couple of uses. I have several different colours in them as well. It is a good starter air brush, just play around with it on some paper, I found discovered by accident that if I put the marker in one way I get a wider spray and if I put in the other way I get a finer spray, not sure if it was designed that way or not.

Good luck.

I also had a friend with it. It had cleared up now, but his lasted for about 12 weeks until it was totally gone. He noticed a big improvement though in 3-4 weeks.  But everyone is different and will take different times for everyone, just relax and take it easy and don't over do it.

big hugs.

I think I agree with Us Bears I think she likely has had something that she shouldn't of.  Our two dogs very rarely get any kind of people food. They do get some veggies from time to time usually a piece of cooked potatoe (plain) or a piece of carrot.  But other than that they are only fed dog food. We actually just moved ours to a low ingredient dog food and they seem to be doing so much better on it. She likely hasn't gone to the bathroom because she has thrown up everything she ate, but I would make sure that she is drinking so she doesn't dehydrate for sure.

I hope she does ok, I think once she has had a day or so to rest and re cooperate she will be fine.

Ohhhh Catherine they are wonderful. I to have wanted to try my hand at cloth doll making but I don't think I could do the faces. Yours are superb and you can show them off anytime you like. They are all wonderful but I think my favourite is the little slim one at the front with the long hair.  I love the long neck on her so precious, keep up the great work I think they are fantastic.

They all do wonderful work, I am sure they have just as hard of a time reading Teddy Talk as we do reading their blogs  bear_grin  bear_grin.  All you can really do is use an online translator and hopefully that will be able to help you understand some of what they are writing.

If the fur is really soft I would say it's not mouton, Alaskan seal (the real seal) does have a thick skin so if it's marked and is nice and soft then it very well could be the real deal.

You are right as well Sue that it was known as Hudson Seal , but the funny thing was there were never any seals in Hudsons Bay. So I've never figured out why they called it that. lol

big hugs

Little Bear Guy

Thank you Tammy I could not for the life of me remember what fur it was.  It is sheared Muskrat, but it gets dyed to look like seal. It's very hard to tell the difference, you will find this on a lot of older coats.  Not so say what you have isn't real seal  I was just commenting that a lot of coats are not actually seal when they call them Alaskan Seal.

enjoy the bears will work up very nicely I am sure.

big hugs
