I absolutely love her, she is lovely.
Can we have more details about her? What fur is she and stuff?

Tatty Bears

Oh yes Gabriele it is the bone Alpaca from Gerry's, I am so relieved to hear that all alpaca isn't like this, it was really putting me off using Alpaca/Mohair. Thanks for making me feel better ( big bear hug )
If I fray stop all the edges before sewing I will Be O.K then???

Tatty Bears

I don't know much about different furs but this is Alpaca Mohair from Gerry's that I am using and it is when I am doing the tacking or overcast stitch that it is fraying.
It has a very open weave back very similar to sacking.
I did a fake fur bear in the same pattern before attempting the real stuff but I'm not having so much fun with now and I was so looking forward to using it.

Tatty Bears

Hi All,
I haven't use fray stoppa up til now because all my bears have been fake fur and the fabric has not frayed,
But I am now making my first mohair bear.
I cut out all the pieces and went on to sew them together and as I sewing the fabric just kept pulling away because of the weave backing so I have undone the sewing and fray stopped all my pieces, I  am now waiting for them to dry.

I didn't realize I would have to do this with the mohair but at least I saw my mistake before I went too far.

Also I like the fact that the mohair is in little "clumps which  will be so much easier to trim and pluck out the hairs, I think I'm gonna like working with "real" fur!!!!!!

Tatty Bears

So cute and so tiny, how big is he?

Tatty Bears

Hi All  bear_original ,
I have just finished a black and grey bear he has whites at the top of his eyes so he looks like he is looking at his nose soooooo he is just crying out for a bee on the end if it.
I have decided to needlefelt a bee, yellow with black strips and a black face with white wings.
I am new to needlefelting and I have done a practice bee but I have a question:

How do I stop the black and yellow felts from "bleeding"
into each other????? You know what I mean, I can see the black fibers on top of the yellow, I like things to look clean, or am I being to fussy?

Tatty Bears

Wow, love him. Is it a Bear, Is it a Dog!!!!!!

Tatty Bears

Hi All,
        Yet another question:
How do I make a Teddy stand unaided?
I have just finished a Teddy and I put glass beads in his feet and his tummy but he refuses to stand.

Sheree,
I was taught to attach the limbs and then stuff them, but I found a lot easier to stuff them before. So now I always put the pin, stuff, close the limbs, and eventually needlefelt or shade them. When they are ready, I attach them to the body. It is also easier because I see the full shape of the limb, so I have a better idea of their positioning on the body.

Thanks Francy, Hey, maybe I do know what I'm doing after all!!!! Lol

Tatty Bears

Hi all,

  I have a question:

Do you attach your teddies limbs before or after you stuff them?

Up till now I have attached my bears limbs before stuffing them ( I use cotter pins ) but my last bear I put the cotter pin in the limb stuffed it them attached to the body then lastly stuffed the body. I didn't have any problems and preferred doing it this way, it was much easier when it came to sewing up the limbs.

So how do you do it? Do you do the same method with all your bears?

Tatty Bears

When making a larger bear where do you weight it?
Just in the tummy or in the feet as well?

Tatty Bears

Hi All,
I am still a beginner at this wonderful bear making experience so I have a question:

I am just about to finish my first 12 inch/30cm bear, he is an old fashioned style and up till now I have only done small bears.
Before I put him together I was wondering if I should weight him?
Do you weight all your bears?

I have just finished two 8inch/20 cm bears one is just filled with fibre fill the other had a weighted tummy and I must admit I prefer the feel of the weighted one so much so that I am thinking of undoing the other and weighting his tummy too.

So I'm wondering should I weight all my bears in future? And what is the best thing to use??

Thank you.

Tatty Bears

Hi All,
I am about to start my first Alpaca Mohair bear, up till now I have only been using fake fur from my local craft store but I have took the plunge and bought some Alpaca Mohair from Gerry's.
I just thought before I start I should ask all you knowledgeable people out there if there is anything I should know about working with REAL fur????? Mainly because it is more expensive I am a bit afraid to start.

Tatty Bears

Oh no, I love the look of the bigger head with body it does make him look cute and baby like.

Tatty Bears

I am going to feel left out here if I don't jump in.
I started in December 2011, About 10 weeks ago, anybody beat that??? Lol
I am working on my 5th bear now and loving every minute of it, thanks to all of you wonderful people and your fantastic help.

Tatty Bears

I love him, does he have a larger head than his body? He is so cute.

Tatty Bears

O.M.G. Gabriele, I am only just getting used to other peoples patterns. I already have Lisa Pay's Scribble the dog pattern so maybe I could adjust that to make a cat, I shall put it on my to do list as I am half way through a bear at the moment and have just bought some mohair for my first REAL bear and I still haven't done my original kit I got last year. Oh and I have to make Scribbles yet too. He he.
So many bears so little time. Lol

Tatty Bears

Hi All,
I have been shopping again and I got some leopard
Print fur and I was wondering if anyone knows of a cat pattern I cat use?????

Tatty Bears

Lovely kitty, I have just bought some fur like this.
Did you make a cat pattern of is this a Teddy pattern?
Do you know where I can get a pattern like this?
