I have to ask -- what's the point of this meta qustion? Sure, I appreciate you're going to get a list of countries and/or towns therein, but other than the subjective answer. what is it going to tell you? For instance, my answer is "England" -- but I am biased. Others might say Germany, due to the good health care, etc.
I just wonder if there's a specific reason why you're asking, and if asking *that* question might get you a better set of opinions. :)

What a lovely bear indeed; though his new dad hasn't seen him "in the fur" yet (he starts his journey to Belgium tomorrow), he is one lucky and proud
owner : oh yes ...IT'S ME !!
:teddybear:
:) Congratulations.
I think it's so sweet that you introduce a new bear with biscuits and such like you did with your last bear -- I hope we see photos to that effect. :)

Hi all. I am hoping somebody may have a bit of knowledge about wide screen monitors. My original monitor crashed a few days ago. I only had it about almost 2 years and I went to pc world to get another today, they all seemed to be wide ones, got it home and installed it and I was shocked to see all the bears are fat and short, on my website, the ones I have on Ebay, then I come on here and everyone's in the gallery look same. I looked in "my pictures" on my computer and they are all the same.
Sounds like the resolution your monitor is set to use is too low -- you could try increasing it by looking at you "Display properies" which you can find in your control panel somewhere. Not having used windows in years though, I couldn't tell you much more than that.
Once you'be got that solved though you should be OK -- wide monitors doesn't mean "wide pictures" in that sense. :)

Looks nice!
Make sure you or someone takes photos for us all to see here. :) Rupert wishes you well, too. :)

Here's my latest. Buddy is made of curly kid mohair, stuffed with mohair wool and excelsior, and is nice and heavy. (He's staying here with me:)
Nooooo!! He's absolutely gorgeous!!! Aww, hurry up and start selling your bears, damn it. :) :) I want most of your collection to appear in my hug ASAP. :)

Thomas, we have been working on a design for one but don't have it completed yet (it takes us awhile sometimes to get a design the way we like it) . What I'm working on is basically a large bear with a zipper in the back so you can put stuff in it. It has the full head and arms and legs, it's not a purse it's more like what we would call a knapsack. I can let you know when we get the design completed and do one up, can always send you pics. Will have the straps on it the same as a knapsack. Is that what you are talking about?
Sounds exactly right to me. :)

Hello all,
Whilst I was at TBAE in Stratford on Sunday, I saw a lady carrying a wonderful teddy bear rucksack -- literally a hollow teddy bear with all the features but instead allowed items to be placed inside of him, and sporting straps.
Since I have no street cred, I really *want* such a rucksack. I have looked on ebay and have found some, but they don't interest me, are too small, etc., etc.
Would anyone here know if these things exist within artists here? I think it's such a wonderful idea and I want one. :)

I will explain what Ruth is refering to about the lovely lady. When Sarah (my daughter) and I arrived at the railway station in Stratford there was a huge flood right across the road and pathway that lead from the station. There was no way Sarah could push my wheelchair though as we would have both been soaked through. Then an American lady stopped her car and waved us over. That wonderful kind lady put my wheelchair in the boot of her car and then drove us, plus an old gentleman through the flood and delivered us right to the door where the fair was being held. A complete stranger with a heart of gold! As Ruth said I wouldn't have gotten through without this lady's help and so there would have not been pictures for you all to see.
Hugs, Jane. :rose:
Hehe -- you were lucky. I had to cross that puddle by clinging to side of the fence for dear life -- that "puddle" was damn deep. :) Even the cars were struggling.

Jane --
Great photos, You were certainly busy taking them, and it shows. :)

Yes, I would just like to echo these sentiments, so thank you indeed.
I had a fabulous time in Stratford-upon-Avon, finally getting to chat to most of you in person -- even if I didn't necessarily introduce who I was (I had Jane of Doodlebears doing that for me :)). I have to say (as would have come out in conversation with some of you most likely) that I was amazed at the uniqueness of the different bears there -- some fantastic designs and gorgeous bears; certainly given me food for thought for when/if (heh!) I ever get around to thinking of making another teddy bear. :)
I did adopt a bear -- details on that in a separate thread. :) :)
So thank you to everyone once again. And for those going, I'll see you in Beaulieu -- slightly closer to home for me than Stratford is. :)

This is going to be a first for me, since I don't make teddy bears, but...
I have done this before -- and I can tell you, it's all in the stuffing. You don't say if the teddy in question is having his leg reattached or simply is attached and needs stuffing. In the case of the former it's a little easier. In the case of the latter, the trick is to ensure his leg is fully stuffed before you sew it up -- and even then it's the stuffing at the joint that will cause you problems.
Hopefully someone else with way more experience will help -- but that's my experience, if nothing else. :)

Hi all,
I too am going to be there. Trains are going to be a bit of a pain, but it's a Sunday so I suppose I need to accept that. :) I can't wait! :)

Hello all,
I am so excited. Today, Rupert, a gorgeous light-gold Schulte teddy bear made it all the way from Australia to find his new home in his new hug here in England. I am pleased to say he's setting in nicely. :) :)
I haven't taken any photos of him in his new home yet (and certainly won't be anything as grand as Peter's endeavours :)) but here he is from Ann-Marie's website (Goldelocs Bears):
He was really well packaged, and a lot of thought had gone into that. He was wrapped in bubble-wrap and placed around some lovely coloured tissue paper and placed in a lovely gold shoe-box. Then foam was placed on top of him and put in a postage box. I opened him with absolute glee at work, and he sat on my desk. Not that I got much work done, I was too busy beaming at him. :)
Ann-Marie, thank you so much for Rupert, he's lovely. :)

Is there no one here who would take me up on my offer? Design suggestions welcome, including payment of services rendered as a result. Am keen to get this rolling. :)
-- Thomas Adam
Aww, panda bear! I already have a panda teddy and this one you've made is adorable. :D I bet you're so proud!
-- Thomas Adam
It's so nice of you to ask - really encouraging. I'm currently making a couple of bears for a consignment shop that a group of artists have opened near Washington D.C. Then it's definitely on to inventory for my website and an Etsy e-store.
I'll keep you posted and will have links here. And again - your interest in my bears has given me a big smile. (I'll be sure to make some with velvet paw pads:)
Becky
Oh goody -- well, all in good time and I can't wait to hear from you as and when. :)
-- Thomas Adam
Oh he's wonderful! I love his fur colour and the way his eyes glint. :) Aww.
-- Thomas Adam
Nice. What made you make their noises so prominent in your design?
-- Thomas Adam
Thank you for your thoughtful answers, Thomas and Peter! I'm glad I heard from both of you.
I think you're right, and all the answers to this question will be very different. (That's what will make them great fun to read, I hope:)
Best,
Becky
Please tell me you're getting closer to revealing a website and some teddies for adoption? :) :)
-- Thomas Adam
Jacques definetely (did i spell that right?) is a very unusual bear! love the pawpads and the shading in the face. :)
It's the nose and fur colour I like. :)
-- Thomas Adam
P.S "Definitely" is what you were looking for. So close. :)
Aww, what a lovely hug indeed! :) I see a lot of Steiff teddies, no? :)
What's the name and maker of the large yellow teddy bear? :)
You must have taken a lot of time to build up that collection, I bet.

Hi everyone,
As I get closer to selling some of my bears, the teddy bear collector is on my mind.
Oh good! I am going to be keeping a very close on on your work for sure!
My question is: What do you, as a collector, look for in a teddy bear? I know that the variations in bears are almost endless, but I think it would be interesting to hear what people like and dislike.
Well, that's really dependant on the person to be honest. When you consider that the teddy bear is inanimate, what brings it to life for a collector will be his initial appearance, the "personality" that person looking at him might conjure up, also, his provenance; who made him, etc., and if he has a history, that will also add to his personality as well. :)
What I look for in a teddy bear is varying -- although I have to admit, my tastes are well and truly rooted in the traditional bear. What I like about those goes along these lines:
* The teddy is jointed, so his head, arms and legs can be moved around to place him in different positions. Great for arranging one's hug.
* The teddy's head is a nice triangular shape which fits in well with other teddy bears.
* The hands and feet all have nice velvet pads which are nice for hugging. :)
* Most mohair bears look great in this style.
For example, I like it when the mohair (my favorite fabric type) "fits" the style and personality of the bear really well. I also look for a very well-made bear - nicely finished seams, well-embroidered nose, etc.
I don't buy any miniatures because my cat thinks they're toys for her. And the feel of ultrasuede doesn't appeal to me, so I prefer wool felt paw pads.
Well, miniature bears tend to be niche anyway -- and whilst I admire the amount of effort one has to go through to make them, I prefer something a little larger, personally.
Other thoughts on what moves you to buy a bear, and what makes you decide against one?
Well, since I am drawn to one style, that tends to be the main filter. There's many different styles of teddy bears here on these forums, some of them I like, some I don't --- but then there'll always be people who like something someone else does not. :) To give an example, I really dislike the cheeky bears Merrythought produced -- yet they're really popular with the Japanese, for instance. Guess there's no accounting for taste. :)

How cute! He's taken a leaf out of Pooh's book and likes honey a lot I see. :)
