Marmitehead2.jpgMarmite2.jpgWell, here he is, bear no.2, with only three weeks to go.  This is 'Marmite', he's a 16" bear, made from a very short pile (4mm) mohair.  This is the shortest pile mohair I have ever worked with.  Not sure that I enjoyed it - I'm looking forward to getting back to playing with some longer pile fabrics next week.

Marmite is dark brown, so was a little 'so and so' to photograph!  :photo:

I love him.  bear_wub   I like working with longer pile as well but he has such a beautiful head and face.

Oh, he is really cute, Paula!  bear_wub See, I told you you were speedy! bear_thumb I love the way the short pile has made his shape really stand out. I am working with some vintage short-pile upholstery mohair, and I have had a tough time with it...I don't know if that's due to it being short and dense or because it has a thick backing--it's not our nice mohair backing from our mohair mills! bear_wacko I love Marmite's vest, too. You had time to knit it?? Gosh, I wish I knew how to knit. One more thing to put on my list, I guess... bear_laugh

Can't wait to see more of these guys!

He is adorable Paula, the short mohair works for him and gives him a very distinctive look

I'm glad you all like him!  I really didn't enjoy working with such short pile fabric, but I like the way it really shows off his contours.  Maybe next time I'll try something a little longer pile, but not too much.  Something at least long enough to scissor sculpt effectively!

It's very reassurring to read everyone's comments!  Thank you!  I think he looks a bit of a 'bruiser' personally, definitely all boy!  I'm not really that fast .... a bear like this takes me about 10/12 hours, without the knitting.  Fortunately the waistcoat knits up in an evening, while I watch TV!  bear_grin   I was hoping to get three bears completed last week, but in the end only managed two.  So must work even harder this week!!  bear_tongue

The dark fabric make his eyes look delicious. Pop him on some toast and I'll gobble him all up bear_grin  bear_wacko
