bear_laugh I ought to check out the anime, Lynne--I hear good things about it!

I'm glad somebody else likes the 'toons. My alltime favorite is 'Captain Star', but it's not running here now, dang.

Shelli, Requiem for a Dream????
Now I like twisted and disturbing movies, but this one was the worst of them all. My friend came over one day, and dropped that movie off. He wouldn't tell us what it was about, he just told us to watch it. Well we did, and the 1st thing I did after watching that movie was call my mom and tell her I love her.
Very weird.
I also love the exercist. Loved it since I was a kid.
As for TV. Not a huge fan, although I'm a food network junkie. About 90% of my TV time is on that channel. What can I say. Bad for dieting though, makes you hungry!!
I also love the simpsons, Family guy and a good dose of reality TV. Big brother, apprentice, don't tell me you're not excited for the Martha Stewart version!!!:|
So yeah, I'll say it again. I'm a geek, and I'm very happy that I don't have to hide that here!

Hi Clare,
My youngest is 9 she has lots of the gypsy skirts that are fashionable now but the material is quite thin so I bought her an underskirt, so you cannot see her underwear through it.
I said have you got your underskirt on she said “no, why do I have to wear it? I don't have patterned pants on!”
So I explained there are some men who like ladies, some men who like men, and some men who like young girls, she understood and put her underskirt on. You don't need to go in to detail but enough to keep them safe!
And at that age if you don’t tell them kids at school may misinform them.

Hi Kerren,

I copped out I'm afraid, but it is getting to the point where I am going to have to come clean.   She must be picking stuff up from school friends, usually the ones who have older siblings:|   I'm thinking about tackling that whole 'becoming a woman' thing too, sorry guys, nothing to do with bears I know, but where do you START!!!:o

ADVICE NEEDED HERE!!!;)

bear_ermm It's tough, Clare

My eldest daughter started menstruating at age 9, so I didn't have much choice! Even at that age, she was already fairly well informed.

My other daughters more or less picked up the basics from their sister, and asked me questions when they needed to. Actually, I think they were less embarrassed to ask their older sister!

Hi ,
I ususally weed out the pictures that I have botched, or were the lighting is no good or where I missed a big old thread on the bacckground and then save the pictures in a folder with the bears name on them. I store those unaltered.  If I do any alterations I store them in other folders labeled -For Printing, For Emailing, For Website.  I keep them all sepatarted from my personal albums.

Shelli - If it's any consolation my Senior-Engineer-for-an-Aerospace-Manufacturing-Company-Husband who wears business clothes to work every day, hates grease on his hands and is a saint of a hubby LOVES Choppers and all those 'Garage' shows. He owns a Harley and a speciality Mustang. Any my nephew... a junior at a catholic boys high school and golf champ with perfect grades is SO into cars! I'd rather they were 'being boys' with an interest in cars than drinking, fighting, raping, etc. Those adorable little boys of yours will be just fine!

Are my hubby and I the only old farts who can't go a night without watching That 70's Show??? LOVE that show.
I really miss The Wonder Years and Party of Five. Oh, remember Eight is Enough? Little House on the Prairie Was my favorite!!

Ahh.... when TV was wholesome.....

bear_happy Oh, YES. Isn't he beautiful?

My daughter Caroline is a humungous Buffy fan. She's got all the scripts, DVDs, even the sheet music. She wrote a masters' degree paper on aspects of Buffy and popular culture, AND she met Spike (James Marsters?) at a SciFi convention a few weeks ago. She gave him a copy of her paper, and he shook her hand twice!!

It took her several days to lose the grin . . .

Heather -- YES, Requiem for a Dream. Such an incredibly disturbing film, about how addiction takes ALL forms, as does need, and compulsion, and love (which can also look like "enabling".)  About how we human beings will sometimes go to extreme lengths to contort ourselves into the most damaging and destructive of creatures and behaviors, just to get what we want most, in the moment, without regard for the consequences or outcome.  About how quickly things can tip from light, good, silly fun, to tragedy and trauma and damage beyond repair.

It was a savagely difficult film to watch, but it helped me understand how terrible and tragic and sad and ugly and INSIDIOUS it must be, to become a hard-core addict, and on some twisted level I actually enjoy that kind of inside peek at life's horrors, because I walk away really FEELING something, usually empathy and gratitude for my life circumstances, which I figure is are as good a thing as any to feel, after seeing a movie.

Good point Shelli, although my brother has always had serious drug problems, so I knew what an addict can do. Geesh, even me smoking for all these years.
I'm going to show your reply to my boyfriend though. He insists that if a movie is going to disturb him, or make him sad, he won't watch it. I think, from an artistic point of view, it's great art when the move maker can really make you 'feel' something. Other than, "that's cool!".
Very intelligent thought on the movie though. You would be fun to talk 'movies' with.

I like talking movies, but I usually don't feel like I can entirely grasp the message I intuitively feel, and put it into words.  That's why I am not a movie critic!  I just can't wrap the pretty words around my experience of it.

Another difficult but wonderful film, that really left me FEELING, was The Constant Gardener, which is still in theaters.  I highly recommend it, but be prepared not to say, "That's cool" when you're done. :)

I am sorry to hear about your brother's drug problems; we all know someone like that, or have someone like that in our families, I think, once we reach a certain age, and can look back a little bit.  It must be very difficult indeed, and put a different spin on things when you watch a movie like this, to have someone so close to you in combat with the demon of addiction.  My heart goes out to you all.

I could never be a critic either. I can maybe talk my way into being one, but as soon as I try and get it on paper, nothing smart comes out!! LOL
I'll have to go see The Constant Gardener, but I won't tell my boyfriend. It'll be a weird suprise. :P
And you're very right, it's sad and hard to watch someone go thru such a strong struggle with drugs. I didn't want to be a downer though, I'm soo used to it. It's just part of life to me. No sadness. I've learned from him though. I Don't have a taste for alcohol, and never got into drugs. Plus, my brother is doing good right now. I think he's been clean for like 6 months. It would be nice if this time was the last time.
But if you ever see any other good movies, let us know. Always nice to have a reconmendation.

I'm still in moarning for Alli McBeal and La Femme Nikita.  What can I say?

Love old movies when hubs in the house, but when he's at work I like BBC movies. I have a hard tme hearing and with accents it is worse and he hates TV so when he isn't around I crank up the TV enought to hear it.

Old movies- even the silly ones, like the Thin Man series....Shirly Temple yikes----any movie that says:

"Good News the depression is over!" is my kind of movie.....I want something that isn't depressing, I think real live these days is depressing enough.  Although it's hard to beat Hitchcock and Film Noire....hmmmmm

And when I really want to hunker down with chocolate, a quilt and a coke...I rewatch Harry Potter.

Pitiful, I know simply pitiful.

When you gals post questions like this and we write out our answers it is like letting a slip show when you go to church.  It gives us  insight into our own behavior and other's personalitites too.  I am so glad I learned early to laugh at myself....

Singing in the rain
The African Queen
actually anything with Bogart, Spencer Tracy, Kate,

all things musical......

You'l be swell.....you'll be great....gonna have the whole world on a plate.....

What happened?
