I did this set because we had two boys.  They were always together when the boys were little and then the teenage years came and they grew apart but when the boys became adults with families of their own they became friends and not just a father and boys.  We all live far apart now but when my husband got sick the boys were there in person or on the phone.  Fathers never seem to get the attention that Mothers do yet they are the role models for what the sons will become.  Bless all the Fathers of the world.

I'd like to introduce two cute little mini teddies Emily & Bronson! These are the first miniature teddy bears I have made. Emily & Bronson are just babies and love to play with thier building blocks! 
This gorgeous pair are now in the post on their way as a gift to my auntie for her birthday

Here are Picasso and his teddy bear, Puzzle!  Picasso is 14" and made of a sparse mohair.  Puzzle is just shy of 7" using hand-dyed felted wool fabrics. 


It was fun trying new things with this challenge.  For example, I used Locline-style armatures in Picasso's arms so that he can bend them and hold Puzzle.  And Puzzle himself was a bit of a challenge--I studied a lot of Picasso paintings to choose the shapes and to make sure the arrangement of the colors was discordant enough but not too discordant.  I never really realized it, but I now understand that Picasso really did have a plan when he placed his colors!

Thanks, Joanne!  These bears are actually the result of a lunch time discussion with my two girls!  I don't know about other homeschoolers, but we can talk about some of the craziest things.  The whole discussion was, if Picasso made a teddy bear what would it look like?  They are thrilled with the results and are now urging me to do a VanGogh bear, but the only things we can think of is that he would be missing an ear and his bear would have a head that looked like a sunflower!

A Van Gogh bear would have to have a lot of texture too... have you ever seen one of his paintings in person? The paint comes several inches off the canvas!!!

All the challenge bears are great.  Everyone came up with something different and unique to them.  I was just in a challenge on another forum where we had to come up with a fiber box.  Not any two were anything alike or of the same type of fiber and all very unique and interesting.

Thank you so much, Heather!  Yes, Van Gogh's paintings have AMAZING texture--he really globbed on the paint.  I'm not sure I'm up for that challenge quite yet.  I'll let it simmer in my brain for a bit.

And I have to agree with you both, Heather and Eva, this is just wonderful seeing everyone's creations.  It's SO much fun!

Julia, Alice and the White Rabbit are adorable. I love the face on the little rabbit.

Eva, even before I read the title of your piece it made me think of my two sons! Of course I love it!

Cheryl, the Picasso bear is wonderful! So very creative. I just did Picasso style self portraits with my fifth grade students and it was very fun. Your work makes me think of another challenge that might be fun. "What if (insert name of famous artist here) made a Teddy Bear? OOOH the possibilies! Perhaps you could post that challenge. I cannot right now as my life is crazy and I have no time--sadly I don't even have time to particpate in ths one as I had hoped I have such a wonderful picture of my "friends for life" piece in my head!

Hello,  I love everybody's challenge sets,  don't these challenges get you thinking!

Anyway, here's my set at last, Primrose a traditional bear, new design from me with chunkier proportions and a new head shape, she is 10 inches and Daisy bunny is 4.5 inches, fairly loosely jointed and floppy with long legs for her size.  Really enjoyed making them.  .  Wasn't sure what colour background looks best, actually had a hart time photographing them, don't know why.

Tami, I look forward to seeing your "friends for life" piece when life gets a little less crazy.  And, yes, my girls are all over the whole "bear artists and their teddy bears" theme.  Lately they've been trying to convince me to do Van Gogh.  And the best man from our wedding 22 years ago is asking that I try my hand at Dali.  Hmmmm...melting teddy bears?!  I think I'll let my brain simmer on that one for a while!

My turn,  This is Munds and Winkelman, two old men.  Winkleman adopted Munds when he was just a cub orphaned in one of the many wildfires we have out here each year.  Many, many good years they have spent in each others company,  Now both in the twilight of their lives.  Friends forever.  Love can come from anywhere.   
More story down in the bear section.  I'm going to post them there also, they are going on ebay.  Thanks for the challenge Paula, I had a lot of fun.

All the work has been wonderful so far...I love them all      
I am now trying to finish my set before the deadline.I am even doing some sewing this morning which is most unlike me...I usually feel too guilty for not getting on with jobs that need doing indoors

I'm sorry to say my own entry won't make the deadline ... unfortunately my other half had a few health issues recently which have played havoc with my bear-making schedule.  Hopefully I'll be able to take part before the end of October.  If anyone else needs a deadline extension, please feel free to enter up until the 31st October.
