I was just on the site and she has baby's I can not tell how many but I heard it squeeking!! I am going back now.
Still just one... we saw it's front arm/paw reaching at lily's muzzle.
I was there when the first was born and still watching...
I heard the first baby crying and it is like a human!
I think a saw the baby's head a moment ago.
Beary hugs,
Sophie.
It looks like she had a second cub, because after a long labor, I heard crying again. Now it looks like she wants to have a rest. I suppose no more cubs, but I am not a specialist...
Beary hugs,
Sophie.
No... just one cub. Dr. Rodgers confirms he's only heard one cub voice. The second round of cub screaming began when Lily moved... it might have simply upset the cub. There were no signs of her licking another newborn nor any suckling sounds as we witnessed with the birth of the first cub. She seems to be taking a well deserved rest now!
Welcome to the world, little one!
and big congratulations to the gorgeous Lily.
Phew, hasn't it been exhausting - but totally beautiful too.
My nose has been pressed up to the monitor virtually all day, it was so tense, exciting and very emotional. I was
in floods of tears after that very first squeal from the new cub. Just like a baby!
She looks very peaceful at the moment, bless. I am so pleased to think that she now has some company in that small
den of hers - I did feel very sorry for her before.
The whole experience has been absolutely fantastic, I wouldn't have missed it for the world. I haven't done much today, but who cares!
I hope they intend to keep the webcam going for some while yet, things are going to be even more beautiful soon.
Congratulations little Lily, we all love you.
Hugs

Wasn' t it just amazing! I've been glued to the screen all day - but boy was it worth it. And yes, I cried too at that first squawk - and saw that brief glimpse of a tiny paw. Well done Lily - you are an absolute star.
And, having just been out with the dog, I can't get back to the den cam..........sigh.......

I've tried several sites, but can't get on........oh well - maybe it's a sign to me to get an EARLY night and give my SQUARE eyes a well-deserved rest! From the latest posts on facebook, from the few who can still see what's going on, Lily is resting peacefully.
And she SO deserves it - I felt so sorry for her earlier! Couldn't even see Charlotte the spider around to give her some moral support....

This has been wonderful to see, and I'm looking forward to much more fun when the cub or cubs get older. (I'm another one who thought she gave birth to two, and the movement that upset the first little cub was due to the second's delivery, but maybe there's a placenta that needs to come out? Anyway, she went through very similar movements and noises twice.)
Thank you so much, Maria, for letting us know about this!

I've been up an hour or so......and it's back to being square eyed again......looks like another cub on the way.
LOVELY to hear the cub - that rhythmic "purring" sound is happy cub, suckling......and you can hear Lily making lovely reassuring grunts and clucks (when she isn't being distracted by labour pains, poor girl)..........
hope number 2 doesn't take quite so long to arrive

It's important to read the updates posted by the researchers who, although they are learning from all of this too, do have a little more experience and education than we do! Keeping up with their information as they share it will prevent anyone from being misinformed or spreading misinformation. Here is the latest update - which, if you follow on Facebook, you can find quite easily. http://www.facebook.com/notes/lily-the- … 477?ref=mf Here you will read what her actions following her first birth were all about and whether or not they think she will have another cub.
She is resting peacefully... slow steady breathing... no signs of heavy breathing, contractions, etc. like she had nearly 24 hrs. leading up to the little cubs birth. We have to remember that she doesn't get pain meds and is likely still uncomfortable causing some thrashing around. AND... she has a wee one who is likely squirmy at times, moving under her... she's going to move around!!
But all is well and peaceful and quiet at the Lily Den!! Yay, Lily! Hopefully she can catch up on some much needed rest now!!!
Hi Daphne
yes, it's all on the Bear Center website - more or less daily updates...........but Lily was certainly throwing herself around this morning! As you say , she is settled now - maybe she just had tummy ache from eating the afterbirth?!
Cubby seems happy and in good voice........just a shame that he/she won't have a brother or sister to play with. It's going to be so nice when the cub gets bigger and mobile - I foresee lots more hours spent in front of the computer, but for now it's time to stretch out somewhere more comfortable!

That cub has been making the cutest sounds this morning!! And as an only child myself I can say that yes, a playmate would be nice but there's also something special about having mom all to yourself!!
I'm looking forward to getting some errands and house cleaning done today... I feel like I've been sitting in the same place for 3 days now!! Wait, I have!!
T SHIRTS!!!!!!!
Hi Lily watchers.........the T shirts are now online - www.bear.org............................
and time for a quick grovel.........they won't/can't send international, so if one/any of you is going to buy one, could you get one for me too?
PRETTY PLEASE????????? I'll pay straight away by Paypal.
I quite like the "Captured by Lily" - if anyone asks - glued to a computer for DAYS!!!!!!?????????? I reckon that qualifies, doesn't it?

If someone hasn't already volunteered to get one for you, Maria, I will. I've already ordered mine, but will go back and get another for you. Size? Color?
Sue Ann - you're a star........thank you so much.......
It's the Held captive by Lily - seems to come in just natural, which is fine, and I guess I'll go for large size - I like baggy Ts!
No panic tho.....it's a bit on the cold side for t-shirts (more snow forecast tomorrow)
I'll email you with the details

ps - seems weird NOT to be glued to the computer screen full time (!) tho I keep going back just to listen to the baby
They also have an ash gray color if you'd rather have that. Think I will layer mine . . . long sleeve tee under the Lily tee. Can't wait for it to come. Yup, I've spent a huge amount of time just sitting on my bum watching her breathe. I did witness the live birth, however, so it's been soooo worth it. I didn't ever stay up all night, but got up at 5:30 Friday am to see if anything had happened. I find it very hopeful and touching even that so many THOUSANDS of people across the world were glued to their monitors, urging/supporting/encouraging this special black bear. I'll wait to hear from you about the color.
I finally got to see the live cam! YAY! A breathing lump! Hopefully I'll see the cub too sometime.
It's a pity they won't send the T-shirts OS, I'm sure thousands would buy them! I certainly would.
Sorry, SUE ANN.......I'd dragged myself off to bed! The natural colour would be fine.......and THANK YOU.
You're right - it's wonderful that so many thousands of people have been absolutely captivated by Lily - the live feed was even hosted online by a couple of HUNTING groups - hopefully a few gun-toting trophy hunters will realise that bears are much more interesting ALIVE.
And LINDA - if you Google Lily Black bear, you'll find a video of the birth.......the link was on Facebook, but I can't seem to find it now.
The video is well worth a look, if only to see that wonderful moment when a tiny paw reaches out towards Lily's face!
Can't wait to really see junior, but it will be while yet...... and I'm really beginning to cross off the days...... after viewing the "Bearwalker of the Northwoods" last October, we booked the very next day to join one of the Bear Center's Black Bear Field Study groups...........so come late August, we will actually get to meet Lily and her cub! It is going to be such an adventure....

Maria ,
If you would be so kind, please share your photos with us less fortunate. :)
It would be greatly appreciated.
That sounds so cool Maria, something I'd love to do! JEALOUS!
Don't worry - you'll probably be sick of the sight of black bears by the time you've seen all the pics we plan to take!
Seeing wild bears is something I've dreamed of for years - but watching Lyn Rogers made me realise that this is THE one.......not just seeing furry blobs in the distance, or from a viewing platform or tundra buggy.....but getting close enough to observe them doing bear things, and just ignoring us.. You can check out what happens on the field studies on www.bearstudy.org - there's even a short video taken by a course participant.

That would never happen Maria, the more pics the better!
Hi Maria,
Oh my, you are a very lucky lucky girl! What a most fantastic opportunity to see these wonderful bears for real. I am so jealous!!!
Maybe you could sneak me in with your luggage!!
You will have the time of your life I am sure.
Hugs

Poor Lily and cub, it is snowing a lot. I can see that the entry the den is now covered with snow and there is also some snow on Lily's back.
I hope they will manage to stay warm enough...
I turned the sound very high to check on the baby and I could ear him/her. Impossible to let the sound on because the buzz is horrible.
Beary hugs,
Sophie.
