I agree Joanne.  Many of us are aware of the economy that affects not only us but the rest of the world.  If I was a collector and I wanted a particular bear and was made aware of a new tax or fee, then I would pay it.  It would be fair to both the artist and collector.

I love her!!!  She is adorable!

Absolutely Peter!!! More empty promises.  Those proposing a project such as this will say anything, make any promise to get the plan approved and the project built.  After completion and a catastrophic spill/disaster occurs, the damage has been done and it is too late.  More of the envronment is destroyed as well as the inhabitants of the area.  Any cost the companies incur after the fact is most often considered the cost of doing business and can most likely be written off as such.

I too agree with the need for an alternative.  If we can see this, my question is why can't those that have the power to make a difference see it? I am sorry..I didn't mean to rant.  I recently visited Biloxi, MS to visit my son.  We walked on the beaches along the Gulf of Mexico and it was  beautiful...except  the oil balls, which are small now, are still washing up on the white sandy beach.

Those bears are gorgeous!  Big oil companies will make promises they can't always keep. I vote for leaving nature and the Spirit Bears alone.

I think I saw him breathe!  He looks so real, Melisa!  Adorable!!

Thank you Joanne.  I did play around with picnick this morning and I really like it. It is very easy and I like the options and results.  I will check out photoshop for the logo and banners. Thanks for your help.

Hi Everyone....
All of this information is wonderful and very helpful and I thank all of you for the options you have shared. In addition to the photo editing,  I need a new logo and was wondering if anyone knows if any of these programs have the capability to create the logo I need or do I have to use a another type of program?  I don't have a problem with editing but I admit I am technologically challenged when I try to do anything such as a logo  and would welcome any of your more experienced suggestions...PLEASE!    bear_cry

Thank you..

I have had an absence of over 5+ years and am just getting back into it...starting from scratch so to speak.  So I am a newbie to collectors and have to prove myself again.  I am okay with that.  I too was hoping for extra $$ from doing something I love.  But, as I have read, times are slow.  When I sold previously, Ebay was the way to go. You could put a minimum price and let the bidding begin.  That was easy.  Now, to my surprise, Ebay has become bear artist non-friendly as even well established artists are not getting the prices they deserve for the quality bears they offer.

Adjusting prices could be done as a 'special' sale at times, depending on your situation and not done on a permanent basis??? Just a suggestion.

I also think individual circumstances dictate how to handle your pricing.  Do what makes you comfortable and price them so that you are comfortable with selling your bears at that price, knowing you offer quality artistry work and after the sale, you are happy with your decision and have no regrets.

Thank you, Karen.  I did buy the Rudi book on Ebay but didn't buy the Mary Vellan book because I wasn't sure how helpful it would be.  You answered my question.

I also bought the Rudi book on Ebay.

Michelle,
I found Nursery Toys by Mary Vellan at Abe's Books...they sell out of print books.  There are a two copies for $9.00 each and a couple others that are more expensive.

Welcome Back, Claudia!  I was away for over five years and have been busy trying to catch up.  So many changes...so much to learn...so happy to be back!!  Love your new website and the bears!

I was scanning Ebay and found 'A Bear of My Own' up for auction if anyone is interested.    It is less than $45 including postage.

I think it is a great idea....a swap!  I remember doing that over five years ago when I was very active in bear making.  Everyone that wanted to participate joined a list and we were paired with one other person.  Each of us filled a little box or package of goodies that we did not want or think we would use and sent it to our partner who did the same. There were books, mohair, findings, etc.  It was so much fun. It was a way to clear out a little of the old and receive some new 'bear stuff".  Having a catagory that we could list what we had and someone else could chose and  reciprocate would prbably work well also.

He is a handsome soldier. They do change after going through the training. Two of my sons are soldiers. Congratulations, I am happy for you.

Very good job Angela! Ash is a great first bear.

I know what you are talking about SueAnn. I found it at Walmart and Michaels about a year ago but was much cheaper at Walmart.  It was easy to use and looked great when it hardened.  I think it was about $10-12.  Good Luck, Emma.
