Hello there!  I am so happy about this little guy!  As some of you know, I lost my maternal grandfather in March... and then my maternal grandmother just this month.   bear_cry They were both nearly 90.  At that age, it's not like it was unexpected or anything, but I miss them both so much.  It's kind of comforting to know that they are together again.  After sharing THAT many years with someone, how could you NOT want to be where THEY are!  Anyway... I've been wanting a puppy forever, and this little guy has lifted my spirits tremendously!  bear_wub

We've decided to mane him Hugo... I think he's named after Victor Hugo... but my Husband thinks he's named after Hugo Boss (high fashion menswear designer!)  Go figure...  bear_wacko   But we both like the name, so that's that!

I promise to take a bunch of pics... they grow SO fast!

Thanks for all your kind words everyone!

KimClosewithPuppyWEB.jpgI know that most of you have seen the pics on Facebook, but I just can resist posting one here for those of you who aren't on FB.  This is our new little Boston Terrier pup!  He's only 4 weeks right now, so we have to wait a couple more weeks till we can bring him home.  I think the wait is gonna kill me!   bear_wub He's so tiny and cute right now.

Karon... I'm PMing you as well...

I'd be happy to look through my issues of TBCI to see if I have the issue you speak of.

Hi from another vegetarian!  I do eat dairy and "well disguised" eggs though (like in cake or something!  bear_whistle  ) but no meat of any kind, no fish, no shellfish, no poultry.  I've been one since the age of 12 or so.  For me it's just a personal choice stemming from more of a gross-out factor.  I'm just really squeemish about actualy ingesting animals.   I'm often asked if it's a moral choice... but to be completely honest... it's really not a morality issue for me... I sure as heck still wear leather!   bear_thumb

I'm raising my kids to be meat eaters, but I really am trying to keep their meat consumption in moderation.  Really, I think that's the key to just about everything.  I'm pretty sure that the human body isn't designed to be able to cope with eating meat at EVERY meal, and in most developed, industrialized, wealthy nations we do just that... because we can afford to... not because it's good for us.  When my in laws came here from Egypt, that's one of the first things they noticed about America.... as a nation, most of us can afford to eat meat at every meal.

You gotta love the pride of craftmanship that is so obvious in those older machines.  Now that many of the less expensive (and even mid range) machines are made of plastic, it's actually practically cheaper to replace them than to fix them!      Seriously!  I hand sew, so I rarely use a machine for anything bear related, but I bought a basic Singer model for something like 100.00.  A couple years down the road I needed to have it serviced and they wanted like 75 bucks and two weeks to do it.   bear_wacko  I actually ended up just buying another cheapy.      Those of you who use a machine to sew their bears... I don't blame you one bit for hanging onto those wonderful old machines.

Oh that's really interesting Jaina!  Perhaps Jenny J. of 3 o'clock bears can pipe in as I know she does a lot of her work with changes in pile direction like that, and many head pieces.  I wager to guess that you are right in thinking that the muzzle itself is cut in three pieces.  One for the snout area in a contrasting fabric, and two in the body fabric.  There would be an "extra" seam at the top of the head where the pile direction changes.  The downward facing pile near the muzzle sort of gives a bang like effect.  And the back area of the gusset is cut in the opposite direction so the hair "grows" downward toward the neck.  Let us know how you make out with it!!   bear_wub

I hope to be more patient with my kiddos.
I hope to learn how to knit.
I hope to not spend SO much time knitting that I forget to make bears.   bear_cry

Yup... that's what I do too.  I also wrap my wire in strips of quilt batting (you can tack it in place with a few quick stitches or over wrap the batting with yarn.  I like to be sure that even if the stuffing compacts or shifts around a bit.... the wire will stay fairly cushioned and burried within the stuffing.

Hey NO WAY!!!!  I actually lived in Jackson Township!  I was born at Aultman Hospital and lived near Lake Cable until I was 6.  When I was in High School we moved back to Jackson Township and I graduated from Jackson!  My parents still live there...in Buckley Woods (off of Mudbrook).  No way... small world, huh?

REALLY Small!!!

Hugs,
Kim

tree2008web.jpgOkay... we finally went out  to get the tree!  There was only one big one left... so the husband and I didn't even get to argue about the size, shape, etc...  bear_rolleyes  I most crtainly would have picked out something THINNER!!!!!  This one is 11 and 1/2 feet tall and at least 8 feet across... it takes up a good 1/3 of our living room.  Grrrrr.  The kids love it though!  Funny, Miranda is ALWAYS wearing a pink shirt whenever we take the impromtu, " thank God this tree is up shot!"  I guess somethings never change!  They look like babies next to the tree, but they are regular "full sized" children... 8 and 6 at this point.  Sorry it's taken from so far away... you have to stand back real far to get the whole darn thing in the frame!  I'm up the stairs near the ceiling!

Merry Christmas everyone!
