Barling Bears

Hi Brenda, bear_flower

Aw, how gorgeous!!  I read Deb's blog the other day about these little kittens after reading one of your other messages.  It's so lovely to know that they are now in such safe and loving hands and have a good chance of a very happy life.

Thanks for sharing the lovely photos.

Hi Jane,

Well done for bringing up this topic and I couldn't agree with you more.  Firstly, I would like to say how sorry I am to hear about everyone's pets suffering in such horrible ways.  It is one of those topics that really gets my blood boiling as soon as I hear the wretched things going off.    I am always thinking of all the poor animals who suffer so greatly at this time of the year, and in particular all our beautiful wild life who must think the end of the world is near.  Impossible to imagine the hell that they must go through.

There really should be stiff laws governing this; it's not as though it's for one night only - round our way they seem to go on and on for days, in fact, now that I come to think of it, you hear them quite a lot longer than that.  Then you always get some fool who thinks it's clever to let them all off at about one o'clock in the morning.  There are always those idiots who have no regard for other people and feel it is their "right" to make as much noise as possible at any hour of the night just because it is "that time of the year".  People would soon complain if someone went out mowing their lawn in the middle of the night, so why should we accept all this crappy noise???   Ggggrrrrr.

I refuse to go to any firework display anymore as I have a heart problem and some of the fireworks are so unbelievably loud that they set my problem off.  So what the hell are they doing to poor defenseless animals?  Ggggrrrrr, I could scream......I had thought that the law was changing to make it only possible to have fireworks at organised events but obviously not.

No-one should apologise for being on their soap box about this - stand on the box for as long as you can and SHOUT!!  It's time for this to change!

Hi Tara,

Karen said:
Your cat is going back to the happiest time of his life; mommy time. The kneading motion is a memory of nursing with his mom and I'm sure the soft scarf reminds him of the feel of his mom. It means he feels very happy and safe.

Yes, I tend to agree with Karen.  I had a little cat called Woody and he absolutely loved a very soft toy dog that I used to lay out along the bottom of a door.  Whenever he saw this lying on the floor, he would paw away at the very soft faux fur and purr and purr as loud as he could!  He never purred so loud anywhere else and you could tell that he was really enjoying it!  I think it is a way of comforting, bringing back "memories" of being with his Mum.  I know that Woody had a very sad introduction to the world as he was a rescue cat and the RSPCA would never tell us what his circumstances actually were when he was found, but soft cuddly material and textures were a very important and favourite item for him.  Bless his little cotton socks...   Also, there could be the chance that maybe your scarf has a scent that reminds him of his previous house, you never know.  He does sound cute though!  It's great that animals have little things that they really enjoy and have their own special meanings to them.  Enjoy!

Fantastic workmanship!  I particularly love the blue heron and her chick, very realistic.  You must have several problems when it comes to transporting your gorgeous pieces of art to an exhibition or fair.

I very much look forward to seeing your pieces "in the flesh" at Hugglets one day!

Whoops,  just thought of another one, this time for cat lovers.

Apparently you have to be extremely careful with some lilies that you grow.  I think it has to do with the pollen or something rubbing off onto the coats of cats as they brush past them.  Then, of course, when they go to lick their coats, they ingest it and it can be fatal.  This can also apply to lilies that have been cut and placed in vases.  I am not sure whether this applies to all lilies or just certain ones, but I keep clear of them completely.

Hi everyone, bear_flower

One important point I heard of a little while ago was concerning raisins.

Apparently they are extremely toxic to dogs and can kill them in some cases.  So if your dog tends to nibble on left over cake, be careful.

Hi Daphne, bear_flower

I really enjoyed looking at your lovely photos, the colours are stunning especially that beautiful red leaf, is it a maple?  I hate the strong hot hot hot weather in the Summer so can't wait for the sunny and crisp days of Autumn to come around.  So sad though when all the beautiful leaves have dropped to the ground and we are just left with skeletons of trees!  Still, there's always Spring!

Thanks for lovely pictures to brighten our day!

Hi Jane,

I haven't been looking at TT for a few days, so when I was having a quick look tonight, I had to stop and re-read your post because I couldn't believe it!!!!   bear_angry  bear_angry I can remember seeing your party photos when I first discovered TT and thinking how much time and patience it must have taken to put together such a fun topic, and all the posts and comments were nothing but funny and enjoyable to read.  I did not know you then but instantly thought that whoever was doing all this great work must be pretty special to devote so much time and effort and the results were brilliant.

I honestly wonder what makes some people tick and why they have such delight in trying to bring other people down.

You poor love, I feel so sorry that anyone would complain to you.  They are probably just JEALOUS!

I ditto everyone's comments so far, and it makes me sad to think that this has saddened you Jane.  Chin up dear friend, the "person" is not worthy of wasting time thinking about them any more.

er hem ........  make sure those photos from Hugglets aren't used Jane!!!!!!  (you know, the frightening ones!!!) bear_wacko

Big hugs,

Hi everyone!!

I can't believe Hugglets is over again for a few months!  So much preparation but then the day just flies by, but well worth it.  Not that I felt that way at the start of the day, somewhat unwell over the weekend and couldn't sit down at all owing to a back problem that started nearly two months ago , so I guess I was feeling a little under the weather, you know how it is, wondering whether bear making was really worth all the hassle!! (moan moan!!!) bear_sad  I think we all have times like that!  Well, a couple of hours later and my outlook on the whole matter had totally turned around!   bear_grin

It was so nice to finally meet up with so many TT-ers and that made it so enjoyable.  I feel bad that I didn't have time to get to see all the people I wanted to, but loved chatting.  There were quite a few TT-ers in Hall 4 with me, Dusty Attic Bears, Pumpkin & Pickle, Doodlebears, Baggley Bears,so we got to have nice little chats now and then.  I did managed to escape "downstairs" at one stage and the place seemed really busy compared to upstairs, I think sometimes people forget there is a little Hall up there, and even when you do go upstairs, the small room isn't really that noticeable.  Had a quick chat with lovely Yvonne from Bebbin Bears earlier in the day, and briefly with Paula but then made sure I went to see Ellen who I was looking forward to meeting.  I met Maria (Puca bears) very briefly before the start of the show (Hi Maria) but was disappointed that I didn't get the chance to have a look at her lovely bears in the fur.  Next time!  Oh, and Ruth (Flutterby) - thanks for coming up Ruth, lovely to chat with you as always.  I know  I have missed out other names, I do apologise.  We eventually returned home and I was totally exhausted and was too tired to even watch the F1 Grand Prix that I was desperately wanting to see!

This was only my second year at Hugglets but it was so nice to have returning customers and catch up on everyone's news. There were so many gorgeous bears around and it all looked really beautiful and although people said they didn't think it was so busy this year, I thought it was still brilliant.  Just loved it and was disappointed when it ended, so roll on September 2009!!  I had a few lovely surprises during the day so now I can say, bear making is fun!!  YAY!

Hugs to all
