I have several callouses too, but that needle always finds a new spot.
I've tried the liquid bandage stuff, the needle goes right through that too. The super-glue dries hard and stops the needle.
Thank you ladies. It's always nice to get positive feedback!
Priss is made from some new stuff I found. I call it 'terry-look', it reminds me of a minature version of cotton string.
Ivan's footpads are Ultrasuede.
Thanks, Dilu, for the compliment on my pic. It's amazing what a little make-up can do! I had to have a decent photo for a magazine article and decided to use it here too.
I know you all get the same thing. Working with these tiny needles, sometimes the back end goes right through the flesh and leaves a hole. For some reason that needle KEEPS finding that same hole and before long my finger looks and feels like hamburger.
I found a quick way to fix it!
I put a tiny drop of super-glue on my finger and let it dry. It seals the hole (doctors use it to close up, right?). It also makes an instant little callous there so I can keep on sewing. Now my finger can heal up and the glue just peels off in a day or 2.
I used to make my Baby Bears that have only 2 head pieces. No darts, just have to stuff it so the cheeks fill out. Hmmmmm, haven't made one for quite a while, maybe for my next bear . . . . . .
I'm still on my bear binge. Business is slow so I'm getting lots of quality time with my needle and thread!
I've been saving my bears for months so I could take them all to the Denver Doll & Bear Show. This was the first year I decided to finally be an exhibitor. It takes a lot of mini bears to fill even 1 small table. I paid my fees and got a great corner booth.
THEY CANCELLED THE SHOW!! I was devastated.
I guess gas prices are too high and a lot of other exhibitors cancelled because they couldn't afford to travel.
Instead of having a poor show, they just cancelled till next year.
Well now, I have all these bears that need homes. Ebay left a bad taste in my mouth so I guess I'll have to put them all on my site. Wonderful, lots more work to do!!
Anyway, the brain juice is flowing and I can't seem to get them done fast enough. My mind is already onto the next one before I get the current one finished.
WHEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!
I finally got this new bunny done for my daughter's B-day tomorrow. I made 1 for my younger daughter for her B-day, back in January, and have had to listen to this girl complain ever since!! "Moooooommmmm, when are you gonna make meeeeee one?!?!?"
I was very lucky, my husband took them camping for a few days so I could work on it without hiding it!! She has no idea that it will be waiting for her when she gets back.
Anyway, this one stands 11" tall, another big one for me!
Gorgeous!!
Thank you all!
I'm on a bear binge. Seems like I haven't gotten any done for a couple months (because of the move) and now I can't get them done fast enough.
Lil' Lavender is made from Frosted Lavender
Thomas is made from 3/8" imported synthetic. I have 6 new colors I'm picking up today.
Maxine was made from a sample I received from a manufacturer (sorry I won't be buying any, the minimum order is way too big). She is not my pattern. Andrea Brewer had a 'freebee' pattern on her site. I fiddled with it a little bit and this is what came out. I just want to be sure she gets credit for the original pattern.
Thank you ladies! I'm having so much fun, I HAVE TO MAKE MORE BIGGER ONES!!!
Gabriel is 11" tall. Still not a huge bear, but huge for me.
I agree, big bears can hug back.
Wake up all you mini artists!!!
I haven't been around for a while. I've been a busy, busy girl.
I'm FINALLY settled into my new place and even had some time to make some bears.
Here's some smaller ones I've gotten done . . . . . .
I've also posted Gabriel in the Showcase. I like to put the little ones here. They seem to get lost with all those bigger bears.
I've wandered off into bigger bears and am having a blast!!
I don't see this as negative at all, other than she NEEDS to get a computer and internet service.
I would be flattered if that was published about my bears!
I don't think she meant that you want too much for your bears, only that they are so valuable that people get in bidding wars when they are on auction. That she probably couldn't afford one of your bears even if she could get on ebay. Enormous praise for your work!!
Sounds like she is just very frustrated that she can't get one of your bears.
Don't spend another minute worrying about this.
TT fills me in a way I didn't know I needed. There aren't many other bear artists around here and I've been working all alone for years. No one to discuss bear stuff with. My friends and family think I'm a nut for doing what I do, can't talk to them about it. Also, working from home keeps me isolated too.
Some days, checking in with TT is the only time I get to interact with other 'grown-ups' !!!
Bear artists are spread thinly around the world. Thank goodness TT brings us all together!!!
Hmmm, I got 50. Guess that's OK, I'm not a maniac!!
Got mine done!
Not quite what I saw in my head, but I'm happy with her.
This is Kiki, she's just under 4" tall.
Very fun! I'm a 2 and that's pretty accurate. I am always trying to get people to get along. I'm also happier sitting at home alone than running around with a bunch of friends. I love peace & quite!
Dilu,
So glad you like them!!
I'm out of several colors and since I'm moving soon (2 more weeks!!) I'll wait until I'm settled before making more.
HAVE FUN AND BE SURE TO POST WHAT YOU MAKE!!!
I'd love to jump in on this one! I just drew up a new pattern, but don't know if I can get it done really soon. I'll post it when I do!!
Never, NEVER respond to any ebay email. Go to My Ebay and click your messages and respond there.
I did the same thing a while back. I figured it was just some mix-up.
Well. . . . turns out someone hacked my ebay password and was bidding on stuff. I don't know how they did it without stuff showing up on My Ebay, but I had to go through a bunch of red-tape with ebay to clear it all up.
Please welcome Lana, she stands 5.5" tall, that's a big one for me! I managed to hand-dye a piece of imported synthetic. It nearly ruined the fur, so I won't be doing it again. But it did come out such a pretty color. I think she needs a big pale-pink bow.
I've been posting my bears on the Miniature Forum and figured they ought to be here.
I agree with Louise. I think your 'style' is in how you do things. You can use lots of different patterns, but it's the way you put in the eyes, do the mouth and trim the fur, etc. Most people just keep doing what works for them and that becomes their 'style'. No matter what type of bear you are making, it's those little things that make all your bears LOOK like your bears. You many not notice it, but other people do.
Awwww, geez ladies!! You're gonna make me cry!!
With everything going on right now, I have managed to get a new mini done.
Please welcome Merlin, he's a Ragdoll Cat for a friend.
He stands just under 3.5" to the tops of his ears.
My own design, sheesh! those 6-piece arms/legs were a pain!!!
Anyone who's known a Ragdoll, knows how they like to flop on the floor (or anywhere!) all spread out.
Dilu,
It went out today, Priority Mail. You should have it by Saturday at the latest. Hope that's in time!
It is called E6000. It will bond anything to just about anything!
