I had just seen one of these garbled messages. My daughter brought it home from school.Aren't we all amazingly brilliant to be able to read it.
I find it sad that there are so many stories like Scotts. My daughter has a motor deficiency which caused a lot of problems through primary. She has the physical skills of a two year old starting school. Some teachers were great others ridiculed her .I have had many trips to school to complain. She now looks at it differently and can laugh at herself.Luckily she is clever and beautiful and I just say we can't have everything.
My late brother and I both have the spelling dooda.I am a bit better now thanks to spell check. When I first started work in the bank many years ago the manager used to call everyone round at the end of the day and read out some of my work.I seemed to make words that should have been easy into rude ones quite often. The whole office used to be in hoots of laughter.Luckily I found it funny too.My brother was an art editor for the BBC and wrote many articles for magazines as well as being an illustrator. He could not spell even simple words like house. He came through school and college unscathed thanks to understanding teachers. What a difference these people can make in all our lives. It isn't always possible but if we can find some humour in our weaknesses it does help.
AAAHH!!! tax and duty? Is that becuase it was a delivery from the US?
We are the same here.Any more than £36 and we get hammered for duty.I just risked a whole lot more so fingers crossed.I once got charged £30 (a mixture of duty and postage ) for a parcel of just £40 worth.I like intercal mohair best so just have to hope they don't all get checked.
Oh, and Nettie, I loooove that little bear in your avatar! He's got such a cute face! (Ha, in case you guys haven't noticed, I SO focus on bear's faces!!)
Kimberly W.
Thanks Kimberly,
I just changed it minutes before reading that.
The one I had was a three inch velvet one.I must make another wee one soon or I will lose the knack!!!
Diane
p.s the new one was just under three inches .
Living where I do there are no shops and even in the city which is a long way away there are no decent craft stores.I am very guilty of going in to antique and junk shops and buying stuff that will supposedly go well with a bear but tends to go well with the other stuff in my room instead.I love looking at vintage lace and ribbon etc on ebay but before you know it you are bidding on loads and four hours have gone by!!!Not much profit working that way.I now limit myself to an hour a day and no more.
No likey that one!!!
Oh dear you have put me in puppy mode!!It would be five if I follow it up!!
Lovely wee soul congratulations!!!

I collect a few different things.I have over the last few years tried to replace sentimental things from my childhood including wooden dolls and sixties dam trolls.
I also have antique china, beswick horses, russian china bears and loads of vintage pin cushions, hanky pouches and sewing stuff.I used to use them all as props when I did bear shows.
Like many of you I also love childrens books.I have to avoid old book shops as I can't resist ones form the early 1900's.
I have a lovely Alice in Wonderland illustrated by Ralph Steadman which he has signed and written a personal message to my late brother who also was an illustrator.I also collect old copies of any Jane Austin books as I love them.
I have only a few bears which include my merrythought cheeky I had as a child.
It is great to see every one elses collections.

Translation please....

Oops sorry slipped into broad Scots there. It just means by yourself or yersel as they say here.I sound a real ba humbug ,didn't mean to.
When I was a couple My daughters father used to sing up to me from the street five flights below and buy me flowers.
"Better to have loved and lost, than never to have loved at all"""
I am actually just as happy with my child and animals.I think I got the best deal.
I do laugh on Valentines day when I remember my brother.Every year for as long as I can remember I used to get a card with somewhat rude verese on it.I puzzled over them for years. They stopped the year my brother died .It was just so typical of his twisted sense of humour.I am laughing now thinking about it.
Not much happening here as I have no "Hubs" or "HUBBY".Not that I am being a stick in the mud it's just kind of difficult to celebrate when you are on yer tod!!!!
I am happily divorced but at these times I can get slightly nostalgic, luckily in the U.K it isn't such a big deal.
Hopefully my daughter will get a card though.
Not wanting anybodies feelings hurt here I think it would be lovely to meet and spend a day with everyone. From those whose work I'm familiar with and wonder, "How do they do that?", I'd have to say Clare and Diane. I love the way Clare ages paw pads! And, how does Diane get those little bear heads so round?!
I think it would be great to spend a day with a beginning bear artist as well. I taught a mohair bear class when I lived in Seattle and loved it! It's so much fun to share the art of the bear with others. It's infectious!! I'd love to spend a day with beginners again.

Warmest bear hugs,
Aleta
Thanks for including me Aleta. You would be more than welcome here.I hadn't noticed my bear heads were round till it was pointed out on Teddy talk!!Now I look at them they really are.Perhaps my own head is too!!!
Any time you fancy a holiday in Scotland come on over. You sound like a fabby guest to me.

I watched a documentary on the proana websites last night with my 16 year old daughter. She has a perhaps a half stone of excess weight if that and has a lovely figure. She eats like a horse but compensates by walking miles with our dogs and trampolining every night and doing dancing at school. She decided after watching the programme that she was now quite fond of her little pot belly. It must be terrible for parents who's kids don't think that way.
I have done twice the amount of exercise, cut out choclate and coke and feel better already.I only weigh myself every couple of weeks so will report weight on monday.
Stay strong everyone !!!
Not having a husband I am in a pyjama top!!!But doing well with excersise!!!
I love this so much.Pigs are one of my favourite animals and this one is just so fabulous.the very very best of luck with her.

Just like a friend you can sit and have a "cup" with them .Some can even "hook you up"!!
I can't keep a bra on for more than a couple of hours???When I worked in the bank I was surrounded by security cameras and practised taking it off via a sleeve inbetween camera shots.I never wore one till I was pregnant.I went for a fitting and the assistant asked what size I was .I guessed 34a never having been "ample".I was a 40DD.!!I gave in and wore one then.As soon as I stopped feeding Hayley I went back to a vest tucked into big pants. Now I have grown bosoms again!!!I get nagged to wear one by my daughter but tend to just keep my jacket on when out!!What does this say about my friendships!!Sorry I got caught up and rambled.I need a lie down after thinking about bra's toomuch!!!
Well done ,your work deserves it .Nice to see them appreciated!!

I was very sad to read about your cat.I think the truth is the best thing for children.I also think a special place in memory helps them.
My daughter took the death of our dog well at the time but weeks later it hit her and I would look out for that with your children.Thinking of you all.

I sometimes get up feeling weary about all I have to do but after 2 hours on the beach I am just dandy
Honey... if I had access and time to spend two hours on the beach, I'd feel fine and dandy, too! Isn't the sound of those rolling, crashing waves just the BEST for easing away all of life's stressors. I went to school at UCLA, undergrad and graduate school, and we were mere minutes from the beach in Santa Monica and Malibu. I spent a lot of time there as a young gal and now that I live in utterly land-locked Chico, in an agricultural valley -- with blossoms and hills and creeks and many pleasures of its own -- I have to say the one thing I miss desperately is just the sound of, and access to, the ocean.
Your visual -- one of walking dogs endlessly on miles of soft sand -- just made me smile wistfully. Thanks for the nice midday treat!
PS What does the beach in Scotland look like? I'm imagining, very much NOT the sweltering, bikini-strewn, surf-rich beaches of my Santa Cruz friendly childhood, or my Santa Monica rich early adulthood. Show us a picture!
I find if I don't get my two hour march I get less done.I feel a bit tight in the neck and worry about my health and my dogs health.I drop my daughter at school and stop off at the beach on the way home.I look on that time as my social life ,hobby and relaxation all in one.I get up at five in the summer and I am home by 7.30 .In the winter I just work late into the evening.
I am glad the thought of us on the beach makes you smile. It is beautiful here.I will take a picture when I get a better day.Mostly at the moment it is blowing an icy gale into my face and the ground is frosty white. We have a rough coastline and get lots of waves. It is a good place for suring. The wee scottish hobbit in Lord of The Rings surfs at one of my many beaches.
The coastline is craggy with not much soft sand. When we do come upon a nice beachy part the dogs go wild and chase eah other. There are lots of seals and cormorants around this time of year.I now I am lucky to spend my mornings this way.Even in the snow and pouring rain I love it.I have arthritis after years of long distance running and I think the sea air and walking keeps it at bay.
You sound like a very hard working lady.Make sure you find time for thngs that make you smile!!!!You deserve it.
I love the idea of a balance ball! That looks such fun ... I think I'd spend too much time rolling around the floor in fits of giggles every time I slipped off though!

My favourite exercise is just to walk - I love it. It picks me up, dusts me down and energises me. Trouble is, finding the time to escape ... *sighs*
So instead, I step on my little stepper thing, whilst waggling pretty pink girlie dumbells around wildly. This is of course done in the privacy of my boudoir ... after all, I wouldn't wish the sight of me clad in just my undies, whilst huffin' and puffin' like an ol' steam engine on my poor kids! They'd laugh their socks off!!
Same as me Paula but having four dogs means I have to always find time.I sometimes get up feeling weary about all I have to do but after 2 hours on the beach I am just dandy!!!I also have a stepper which I go on a night and weights.Mine are quite big though as I still have the arms I had as a powerlifter.Last night I tried my daughters girlie weights while trampolining. It was such fun.She as a small rebounder and I put the music on and did above front and side punches while bouncing in a lady like manner.Great fun!!!
I think it would work if it was kept low key and not things of great value (bears really)People could post stuff they really didn't want and any usuable swap would be a bonus.I have never been in a position to swap bears much as I have wanted to.It would be great to get a bit fabric in exchange for a bit of no use.Quite exciting too!!!
In cases like this there would be no hurt feelings etc.I get the feeling the folks here wold be more inclined to give more than they receive .You all seem such sweetie pies!!!
Hi Shelli,
I don't get any magazines but I am going into Edinburgh and could check out all the newsagents there.Let me know how it goes.
Diane xxx
I wouldn't even know how many i make whats wrong with me
That made me laugh so much ,thanks I needed that.
I have to make at least four a week or none of us eat!!!It can be stressful as I am a single parent have four dogs to walk(run for two hours in their case) a large garden and a house I am renovating.I wish I could make more but they would all be mutants.I like to make one at a time starting with the head and face then I make the body later when my wee brain is tired.I tend to look at it in the morning fix it if needed then age distress and add bows or clothes then take his picture.Cooking cleaning, changing filters in the pond, helping my daughter with homework and often washing ****** off the dogs gets in the way of this some days.I try to work an eight hour day if I can.
I think this year I may keep a check on how many.
I do love it too ,forgot to add that!!!!
Verity is quite a well known artist in Australia. Very well known for her "merbears" (which is also her trading name). I saw some of her bears at a shw in Melbourne and they were quite amazing. Having seen them in pictures previously, I didn't think they were my thing at all, but she had a small one at the show which was just stunning.
This is her website
www.merbears.com
Thanks for the link Melissa.I quite like the merbears but the pictures of the four legged ones are not working. She seems to be a very talented wee soul.
