Kimberly W.
Awww, man, Judi! I haven't had anything that made me grrrrrr lately, but I dunno if you already took this into consideration (I am NOT trying to  you) but I use my toaster oven to do my clay things, and just in case you didn't already know this, you have to set a toaster oven anywhere from 25 to 50 degrees lower than a reg oven and decrease baking time by about 10 to 15 mins. Being a baker, I've gotta remember this; I've burned a whole batch of multigrain bread once! Now that's a  ! LOL
Kimberly W.
Hee hee hee, glad you're back, Penny! And........ you weren't writing this thread on the loo, were you? lol

You guys are so funny, and thank you! Man, I'll tell you what... this needle felting is ADDICTIVE! All I do all day is think about what I can make, what I should work on, should I do a Pocket Bear with a needle felted face, etc, etc, etc.... And I need to be working! hee hee
And thank you so much, wendy, I really try for that oh-so-sweetness with these little mice, so to hear someone recognize it is truly a compliment!
Kimberly W.
Oh my goodness, Wendy! They are SOOOO cute! I swear I'm going to have to have one of those little platy's one of these days!
Kimberly W.
Hi all, here is Daisy! She was made of hand-dyed wool (my first crazy color dye job!). Will someone please let me know if I'm (seriously) committing copyright infringement with this girl and her name? It seems to me as though a mouse named Daisy that is a storybook character sounds really familiar.... Of am I thinking of Maisy?
She's doing that classic 'one foot back, hands clasped behind her, shy girl' pose....
Would someone please let me know? Oh yeah, and what do ya'll think??
Kimberly W.
Those turtles are awesome, Charlotte. I'm with the other two, I couln't tell you how much they are worth. No one really can but your consumers, I'd think. It depends on how much time you spent on them, detail, etc though. if you're wanting to sell them outright (not auction-style) you should take into consideration how much time and effort you put into them, and let people decide if they are willing to pay you for what you think your time is worth (say, $75....$150... I dunno).
I'm no help... sowwy
Kimberly W.
Yes, Judi, you are too right! I do pinch and kind of roll around the ball a bit, shaping the wool as I go to get the shape right for what I'm making.
Also, here's a tip. Mohair roving felts HORRIBLY! It took me FOREVER to get it even going down into a ball! SO nerve-wracking! I've found the finer and 'kinkier' the fibers, the easier it felts. I like the New Zealand wool and corridale is so nice, too!
By the way, what is core wool?
Perhaps the reason you are having such a hard time pulling off a chiunk is that the strands are so long? Mohair is like that; long, silky, and straight. Not good for felting. At least, thats in ny opinion; I could be way off base!
Kimberly W.
I do just about all of my felting in my hand. What I do is pull off a piece of roving (you want your hands a little further apart to pull off a chunk; if your hands are too close together, you end up sitting there pulling on the same fibers and really have a hard time getting a piece off). I gently roll the chunk in the palm of my hands til a crude, fluffy ball shape is made. then I start poking away. You have to pokepokepokepoke for quite a while, with each poke you'll be working a couple fibers down into the core of the wool and making it tighter. It takes a little while. Like I said, I work with in my hands (between my index and middle finger, and my thumb being careful to try not to aim that needle at my fingers!), so I turn the wool all the while I'm poking at it. eventually, after a few hundred or so pokes, you'll notice the ball has drawn up into a smaller, tighter ball.
Does that make any sense? I am new at this, too, so I'm just giving you a tip on what I do! It doesn't make it right, but I get the shape I want! LOL
Kimberly W.
lol, you all make me laugh SOOO hard!
I didn't make this thread, by the way, to egg on the other thread. I hope that is all done with. It was just a good way to lead into my new little dynamic duo, and well, if it weren't for felted mice and all the hoo-haa over them, I probably wouldn't have gotten that MAJOR itch to get them!
I do NOT like long, skinny legged spiders; they give me a SERIOUS case of the willies!!!!!
I do love rodents, even the little mice seem to have an intelligence beyond the average animal (although I do think animals are far more intelligent than we give them credit for).
By the way, both of their doo-dads look exactly the same, so I think (whichever they are) I have two of the same sex. They look like girls to me, but I still named the darker one William, and the lighter one I've now named Henry.
William and Henry! They're the two boy mice from Angelina Ballerina.... I really like that kid's show. So I might have to change thier names..... I'll see if they grow man-parts.

Hey Kim, thanks! But you know what? I already have a copy of it, have for years, but never got a chance to read it yet!!! LOL
I need a break! lol
Kimberly W.
Hey, no problem! Well, you just keep plugging away at it! You are really good for a newbie!! Here's a tip: If you think something is kind of off, try looking at your bear in the mirror (hold it up and look at it's reflection) Don't ask me how it works, but it gives you a whole new perspective on the bear's face, and oftentimes you can see faults better!
Best of luck, and let us see the bear when you are done!! :)
