Hi Paula,
Thanks for the message.I think I may have joined but can't remember.I only have about half a dozen buyers in this country and don't do any fairs so  am not in the "gang" as they say.Almost every bear I make goes to the U.S and I have given up over here.
I hope you are having betetr weather down south. We are frozen and drenched.

It is snowing here although t feels to cold for snow.My face was frozen off walking the dogs on the beach this morning.

We have these over here too.I remember eating ones with nuts in years ago. They are quite big and square bars aren't they?

Hi Shantell,
Ebay is pretty slow just now.I can usually sell everything ,sometimes in as little three minutes(don't mean to blow my own tumpet) but  the last bear I listed didn't sell even with 20 watchers.Don't be put off it is a bad time of year I think.
Bears are my one and only income and I know how disheartening it can be.
Chin up.There is nothing wrong with your work just lack of taste or extra money by ebayers.

I had insomnia for a few years and tried all sorts. The best is to be like a baby and have a routine.Hot bath warm drink and either an hour of drivel on telly or an easy read.I still fall back on this is my brain won't stop.Lavender under the pillow and a hot water bottle to hug help.I have one that is a wooly rat.It has been about minus 3 at night here so a ot water bottle is great.
Good luck.

I think the forehead is fine and he looks innocent.I can only photograph UV in daylight.Often the wee lambs get blown away as it is always windy here. You need enough light to have no flash but not enough for the "lurex" look.

I use Christie bears for looped 3mm boot button eyes and sometimes the onyx beads.I use white thick thread for the beads and just touch the thread with a marker to hide it once theeyes is fixed. This blends better than thik black for some reason.
I also use an awl.
I make a dark grey area with marker before I fix the eyes as airbrushing wee tinies sometimes leaves a lighter bit.

I am glad I didn't offend.I like your train of thought Shelli.
I was a power lifter way back when and people used to ask how I could do it being a veggie .I just told them to have a look at a gorilla who is almost 100% veggie (I think I even looked like one!!)
Making bears is far more sedate although when I made really big ones (up to three foot) the joints took a fair bit of strength
I would love to try and make a great big one  again but I think I love making wee ones too much.
I am trying to finish a smaller version of the wee bear Chutney tonight. So far so good but the eyes are failing and I keep stabbing myself.
By the way Shelli I think your bears have wonderful muzzles.See I can have random thought too!

It just dawned on me that my vegetarian message may offend in my signature.
I have been veggie for thirty years and it is a subject close to my heart.I was helping my daughter research for an essay at school and found this quote by pythagarus and thought it was very apt.
I also found some great ones by Edison ,Abraham lincoln and even Leonardo da vinci .I think making furry people makes me even less able to cntemplate eating them but that is my personal choice and I don't mean to sound preachie (if that a word)
Happy sewing

I feel quite an intelligent dirty blonde now.I found the pm box on my first day.To tell the truth it just popped up suddenly don't know how but now I do.
I sat my driving test a few weeks ago and could not tell right from left for a few seconds. My examiner asked if I was having a "blonde moment".I slapped his thigh quite hard but he still passed me  luckily.
Is everyone else making Christmassy stuff? My workroom is santa's grotto.

It is so great to hear you all share how you do things.I was accused of being stupid and giving far too much away at a fair once.I was telling a new bear maker how to dye and distress mohair. Some of the other bear makers thought that was unfair as we had all taken years to work it all out.
I don't think I could copy anyone else as I can't copy myself.I only do one offs for that very reason.

I use cotton ,kapok and sterilised bird cage sand. The sand is tricky but feels nice in the feet hands and tummy and make it heavier but not as heavy as shot. The only place I can't send it is Australia.I did once and they gamma radiated the poor bear.Luckily he survived though perhaps he won't have any cubs now!!!!I got a nasty letter from Australian customs as I had also packed the bear with some pot porris!I like my bears to smell nice when they arrive.

I apoloogise again for my spelling I have fixed cubs who knows what cuhbs are???
