Little Bear Guy

Hi everyone,  I'm on the hunt for small wings for a bear and I'm not having much luck locating any.  (I may just have to get creative and make my own I guess).

I would prefer feather wings but I'm open to anything, I'm looking for something that is maybe 3" wide from wing to wing.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

big hugs

I"m anxiously waiting as well for ours, but with all magazines it seem to take forever to get them,  usually we are about a week minimum after everyone else has there's  I'm still waiting for my latest issue of TBR to show up  bear_grin . Most likely I'll have to wait until the end of next week to enjoy the face book .

Hmmmm I've seen this discussion on other boards and it just tends to go down hill from the get go.  I'm not a lover of Gollies but I see both sides of the story, some people don't like my bears and that's ok. Everyone has a choice to like something or not like it that's what makes us all different and unique.  There is a history to the Golly and I'm sure someone can point everyone in the right direction to read about it.

I have only seen one Golly that I would have bought and that was made by Art Rogers,  I may have to buy it when I see him in Schaumburg.  He showed it to some Golly arist and they were offended by his interpretation of the Golly because he gave his Golly leopard pants , they thought his Golly was racist because the leopard pants made it to African. ( I found that quite humerous )

P.S.  Mini-Mayfield  please don't always go by what you see on one website do a little further investigating and get both sides of the story.  Remember there are always two sides to every story and once you see them then you can make up your mind , you don't have to like them but lots of people do.

big hugs all

I saw her as well on The View,  I was amazed by her work.  I was even more amazed when I found out that most of her paintings sell in the millions of dollars.  She does have a wonderful gift, she had a couple of paintings on the view that are not on her website that were just spectacular.

I'm 41  and I like it  bear_grin ,  it's  a great age. I don't get caught up to much on the number thing anymore,  when I turned 30 I thought my life was over that was the hardest birthday for me ever.  I have a sister who is 18 yrs older than me  and she had the same problem with 30 but said 40, 50 were great and she's looking forward to turning 60 doesn't bother her at all.

I think your only as old as you want to be ( and apparently a lot want to be younger based on the other post    )

Ohhhhh  Samantha your moms dolls are beautiful.  I'm not one for dolls but I do appreciate the workmaship and artistry that goes into them.  Her prices are very good, I would think they should be a bit higher.

Now with the above said I do like the quirky and different dolls (I don't own any yet) but Shelli  the picture of your doll is right up my alley, I love that kind of look something that is different and outside the box (kinda like me  bear_grin ).  I can't wait to see more of yours Shelli and maybe even get the chance to have one of my very own.

We did go to a doll show a few yrs ago and I was so amazed by the workmanship that the artist put into their dolls, we were contemplating buying this quirky fairy doll from an artist but then decided we wouldn't.  As we walked away the darn thing jumped off the table onto the floor (I kid you not, it was really spooky) hindsight is we should have bought the doll as it appeared it really wanted to come home with us  .

Hi Shelli,

We travel all the time with bears in our luggage and have never had a problem (knock on wood).  We have never taken one in our carry on as we have heard horror stories as well of people having their bears ripped open.  I know one artist who took two with her in her carry on, they wanted to rip them open.  She explained to them what was inside and that she was a bear artist.  Luckily she had a magazine with her pic in it and an article on her bears and they did let her go through, but we always put ours in luggage.  Now we ship all of our bears ahead of time  (if we are doing a show) we send them directly to the hotel we are going to be staying at.   If we are taking them as a gift to friends then I wrap them up in bubble wrap and put them in my suitcase.

Good luck  and I love that word dipwad

I remember Mindy saying they will have a limited amount that people could buy,  I also know you can order just an issue of the magazine through them as well.  I am sure you will hear back from TB&F about it as well.  I can't wait to see it.

Little Bear Guy

Hmmmm it's possible Bobbie that they are now charging for pics.  I have seen some auctions where there were 50-60 photo's of the bear (I'm sorry but that is a little insane to have that many pics)  So I could see how they might start charging for them , someone like that is using up a lot of space on ebay and I guess ebay wants to recoup that cost ( like they don't already make enough money off of us  bear_grin ).  I haven't posted in a long time so can't answer your question, but I know ebay is starting to charge for just about everything.

Hugs and good luck

wow that is amazing work,  thanks for posting the pics Sonya.  I can't imagine the amount of time that goes into doing something like that.

Congrats Judy,  I can't wait to see my issue.  It just always takes so long for us to receive ours  bear_cry .  It will be worth the wait I"m sure.

You all need to step back and calm down.  This is Intercal's site and they can do as they wish.  If you do not like it, you do not need to be here.  It's as simple as that.  Quit mucking up the boards with this nonsense.  Get over it or get on with it.

Hi Shirley,

I do believe most of us are calm about this discussion, a little upset yep you bet but we are civil.  It is Intercal's site and they can do what they like, but is is also a public forum and in their rules they state they encourage freedom of expression and that is what everyone is doing expressing their opinions (no ones' feelings are getting hurt and no one is being harrassed or picked on).  Daphne had a legitimate question, which you will notice no one in the powers  that be has answered and expalined to her and to the group why it happened.

I'm sorry you feel that we are mucking up the boards, but again this is a discussion board, the question was put under the General area and that's what this area is for when it does not contain a Teddy Bear related topic (this is what the help advisors told me).  My suggestion would be for you Shirley would be to ignore this topic from now on since it seems to IRK you for some reason.   So when you see this topic pop up under new post, just don't read it and all will be fine.

Now my email was nice and friendly and explained my point of view.  Yours also explained your opinion but if your read the two you will notice mine was not offensive.

Have a great day

Shane

Fabulous work Krista,  I'm sure she will love it I mean really how could you not.

I wonder why the admin would post the board rules, nothing I saw was breaking any of those rules.  The one I found funny though under rules was

FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION: We support your right to express yourself, but as system administrator we request that you follow board policies when doing so.

I have not been able to locate the board policies, perhaps that is where we are going wrong  bear_grin .

Hmmmm  maybe my post was a little to much for the board .  I certainly wasn't rude and didn't centre anyone out just spoke my mind,  but apparently you aren't suppose to do that on here.

If this is suppose to be an open forum to discuss things , then what give anyone the right to remove a topic.  I do understand if it gets to the point of being volitile and mean , then by all means those comments should be deleted and that is to stop Flaming.  I was reading the post today right up until I did my post, now unless something really nasty was said after my posting I could see no reason for it being pulled.  But when you are an advisor and it was an advisor that was involved then of course it's to their benefit to have it pulled,  I guess it makes them feel justified in their accusations.

Anyway, hope my post doesn't get deleted or this thread removed.

AndreaM :)

Hi Andrea,

Schaumburg is like a suburb of Chicago,  has one of the best Teddy Bear shows there in April and again in October, it's a great show if you ever get the chance to go.

Thanks everyone for your comments on Maple, he's gonna be a lot of fun to make in the workshop we are so looking forward ot it and I promise it will be a lot of laughs as well.

   good one Veronica, I'm glad someone was able to post the darn pic haha.  Thanks for being able to do that.

Cheryl you are so right about Schaumburg I think it's our favourite show as well to do,  but I also really enjoy TBAI as well, so it's a close call between the two.

Hope you do make it back there sometime as well.

Hi Everyone,

Steven and I are doing a workshop at the Schaumburg show in April, a little bear coin purse called Maple, I'll try and post a pic of him.  If it doesn't work for me you can see a small pic of him on the abc website http://www.abcunlimitedproductions.com/  just click on April workshops and you can see the pic and you can register for the workshop online at their site as well.

I've tried to upload the pic but for some reason it won't let me , can't waste anymore time on it spent an hour already trying to upload the pic, so you'll just have to look at it from the abc site.

I hate when I get overcharged for shipping - largely why so many US ebay sellers don't get my custom - so many of them add a $3-$5 handling fee onto a $5 global priority envelope - so rude!

I agree with you whole heartedly,  I was looking at an ebay store lastnight and they were selling pearle cotton for noses for $1.25 US. To ship it to Canada from the US expedited mail was $16.95      .  To send it regular mail was going to be $6.95 and we all know it's gonna cost them maybe $1.00 and they are gonna put it in a small little envelope and ship it out.  Who in their right mind would pay those kind of shipping charges  give me a break.

I don't mind a handling fee of $2-$3.00 but when your trying to make money on shipping then I gett p****ed off.

Karen I certainly have to agree with you on choosing the right shows.  There are so many shows that one can do, but I think you do have to pick and choose the ones that work for you.  We did a ton of shows a couple of yrs ago, this gave us the opportunity to check out the different shows and what ones worked for us and what ones didn't.  Now thats not to say if there is a show close to you that you can go to and come home the same day that you shouldn't do it, that keeps your price down.

I also like a show that has an event tied with it.  We really enjoyed the Teddy Bear Artist Invitational show , it's one of those shows that I couldn't call a show I called it an event.  This is such a well organized show and you are treated like a king or queen.  The price is good and there is a wonderful wine and cheese party one night, a big banquet the next night with the show room open for only an hour for the die hard collectors.  Then Sat is the all day show, it's a wonderful experience and you all should try it at least once.

So most of our shows in the US this yr are tied in with the larger more expensive shows as well, as those are the ones that we did really good at and the collectors were there to buy.

Hmmmm   the feet are very much like yours Peta that's for sure. We have a done  few bears with feet but with small toes, not huge like what you do.  I do have to agree that I can see a couple of different artist similarities in this bear.  Looks like they took what they liked from other artist and came up with their own design (well own design might be the wrong term) it looks like half of your bear and half of another artist bear.

I have to agree that a lot of German artist have been doing bears with toes like that for a number of yrs.  I know I have admired your bears Peta for a long time  and this one does not compare to the workmanship that you do, and I'm sure your's don't smell like smoke or a big ole pile of pot pourri (I am very sensitive to a lot of smells and there is no way I could have that in my house it would give me such headaches)

Brenda we are both sending tons of positive thoughts your way, hoping all goes well with the surgury on Weds.

Yep I agree with you Laura Lynn, paypal fee's or cc fee's are just the cost of doing business.  We don't charge a handling fee along with our shipping fee (cause that irratates the heck out of me when I get overcharged on shipping).  We charge the actual cost of shipping, we don't charge for the box or packaging again it's the cost of doing business.

I do know when we were looking at a bear to buy on a website and when we said we wanted to pay with paypal, we were advised by the artist that we would have to had 75.00 on to the cost because that is what it was going to cost her in paypal fee's (we were talking about a bear that was over 800.00)  we decided not to go through with the sale because with shipping and that paypal fee it was costing way to much extra.

Hugs
