Here's a previous discussion we had here long ago on the ladder stitch. Post #12 by Loretta Rock is very helpful. She has since passed away. She was a wonderful woman and very talented bear artist who never hesitated to share her knowledge.

I hate those strays!
I know one woman who uses a little craft iron on them. I haven't tried that.
Soap and warm water (and scissors) work for me.

Daphne

Wow! Congratulations, Nancy!!

Daphne

Yay! So glad Lisa took care of you! She's the best!
Can't wait to see your big bear when he's all finished!

Daphne

What a neat story! The emotional power of a teddy is never lost, no matter how young or old! bear_wub

If you have a problem with a company you need to call and address it with them, get answers and a resolution.

I've been ordering from Edinburgh almost exclusively for 10 years now and other than out of stock items upon occasion and a couple of pieces of mohair I wasn't too thrilled with (not their fault but the mill who made it's fault) I've never had any problems. I call my orders in just so I can get any questions I may have answered and that way I also know if anything is out of stock right away. Eyes, no matter where you order them from can be tricky, espcecially depending on the type/quality you order as they are all handblown so they won't all be perfectly identical or symetrical anyway. I spent 10 minutes sorting through the hundreds I have to come up with the matching pairs I sent you a couple weeks ago.

While it's unfortunate your first order wasn't perfect I wouldn't pass judgement until you've called Lisa to sort it out. Though ownership changed a while back, the company has been around for 25+ years so they must be doing something right. bear_original

She is beautiful!!!  bear_wub  And doing great!!!

First of all.... I cry when I watch The Fox and the Hound... I hate to see lonely/orphaned animals... cartoon or real! LOL!

I try to stay as uninvolved in the discussions on the fanpage as possible. There's been way too much drama there. So I hadn't seen the letter to Lily you talk about. And I really try not to think toooo hard about it all. It's just when I see a picture of that sweet face when an update is posted it hits me. There's been talk on the fanpage (or was it here... see I don't pay quite enough attention to keep it all straight) about Lily having a screw loose and it was also mentioned in research documentation that 3 yr old mother bears are flighty so Lily's behavior could be fairly normal. What ever her reasons there's a 4 month old cub without a mom and alone without a single wild animal friend, protector, etc and to me it's just sad. I'm well aware, as I said above, that we can't fully understand the situation because we're human, not wildlife, so yes, I completely understand that Lily and Hope experience things differently. I wish a lot of the highly emotional, over-the-top fans on Facebook got that too!  bear_rolleyes  But it shows they have big hearts at least.

Daphne

I've been rather ticked at Lily's lack of motherly instincts since the first time she wandered off. She didn't really expect a rambunctious cub to stay in one place for DAYS did she? It's almost like Hope was more of a playmate... not someone she could take responsibility for. We'll never fully understand because we're not bears. But I have to say that now my heart breaks everytime I see a picture of Hope or think about her all alone in the woods. Here I am applying human emotion to a wild animal but I should think she'd feel so unwanted, orphaned, lost, lonely. The poor babe's mother left her. I look at that sweet innocent face and want to cry.

Although I have mixed feelings about the whole human intervention thing I'm glad, given the current situation, that Sue and Dr. Rogers are taking such good care of her!

Daphne

Becky, that's the link I gave her.
They aren't on the website because she doesn't have them in stock yet, she'll be taking orders.
She's been taking them to shows for a while now so Shanna, you should be able to find out if she's placed an order yet or what her plan is.

Daphne

Shanna,
Edinburgh Imports carries high quality German made cardboard growlers in lots of different animal sounds. I got to see/hear them at the Teddy Bear Gathering in NH this spring. You'll love them! Here's a link to their latest monthly newsletter. Scroll to the bottom to see the voiceboxes. The links to the sounds don't work but I'm sure you can email Lisa and request a soud bite be emailed to you.

I haven't seen the cardboard ones elsewhere but maybe searching for "voicebox" in Google would turn up more results??????

Daphne

Yes, what Alison suggested is exactly what I do and it makes a wonderfully rounded head! Long and narrow is the key!
Have fun!

Daphne

She may be looking for more but they have to be VT residents just like the rest of the craft fair participants. Being 30 miles from the VT border doesn't count. bear_noexpression We go to the fair nearly every year but usually on Sunday... unfortunately the bear artists are only there on Saturday. It's a great fair though! Always fun to see what the latest crafts are and I usually manage to get some Christmas shopping done.

Daphne

Best thing about Chester, Vermont is the quilt shop and the antique shops! And it's so picturesque! I'm seeing a day trip in my future.... this fall maybe, when the leaves have turned their brilliant colors!

Daphne

Donna.... REALLY! bear_shocked  Guess I'd better stock up too! No wonder Edinburgh doesn't have many bear colors! bear_sad
Thanks for letting us know!

Daphne

Yeah, I looked at the colors Edinburgh has in #8.... just some rather funky ones left.
Our JoAnn's has a great selection of embroidery floss but every store is different. I've ordered things from them online before and been very happy so that might be an option too. If you can find an embroidery shop near you that's your best bet... the nose floss options are endless there!

Shanna - If you click on "PROFILE" in the menu across the top of this page then click on "PERSONAL" in the left hand cloumn you'll see place to enter your location and other info if you choose.

Daphne

I guess it depends on what kind of hat you are looking for exactly.

CRs Crafts sells allkinds of hats for dolls and bears that you could then decorate yourself: http://www.crscrafts.com/products/vProd … 3=&L4=&L5=

I've also found that American Girl Doll hats fit medium sized bears. Lots of crafters make them and there's probably a pattern out there. You'd have to ask Google. bear_happy

Daphne

JoAnns! Either in store or online: http://www.joann.com/joann/catalog/prod … ID=prd2583
You also might see if there's an embroidery shop near you. I've found all kinds of wonderful yarns to use there, not just the perle cotton. Here's the one I go to... it's near me but they have a website you can order from. http://www.abcstitch.com/designers_php/ … isparent=&

Youo can also find it on Amazon and Ebay.

Daphne

Brenda, when on the fanpage if you look right under the box where you'd type a wall post there is the word "filters" right under the "share" button. If you click on that you can select "Just Lily The Black Bear" and then you'll see only Sue and Dr. Rogers posts. It's easy to miss their updates when you have to sift through hundreds of posts by fans!

Daphne

Yes, I just read all that too. bear_noexpression
I don't know what to think. I wanna know what Lily's deal is. She's not even looking for Hope by the sounds of things. She seemed to be so pleased to see Hope again when they were reunited but it doesn't seem to take much for her to run off and leave her again. Something seems "off" to me. But then again... I'm not a bear.
So yes, we wait.......................... bear_ermm

Daphne

Oh, Sarah, I LOVE him! He makes me laugh with all that duck-i-tude! Perfect!!  bear_laugh  bear_wub

Daphne

But she's been spotted again now and Sue and Dr. Rogers are on their way with a cage and food. I sure hope this is the last time we go through this!

Daphne

Kelly,
When the seller creates a PayPal button they have the choice to customize it so that on the "back end" (where only the seller sees) they can set the inventory quantity and once the item is sold out the buyer, when clicking on the paypal button, will be told the item is sold and then be redirected back to the artist's website to continue shopping. That way the item can't be sold more than once but the seller (artist) doesn't have to be right on top of updating their site to remove buttons. This has been an option with PayPal buttons for quite some time but it takes some clicking and searching to find where to set the inventory, etc. under the customization tab and many don't want to take the time or can't understand it all. But it can be done!

Daphne

Ok, so I went and looked at my PayPal account. I have a "business" account with the payment option of "website payments standard". The fees are the same for all three of their account options: Personal (for buying online only); Premier (for individuals buying AND selling online) and Business (for businesses conducting biz under their company name... offers more payment acceptance options).

Bottom line Deb.... if you have a personal account you can't create buttons for items on your website so be sure you have or upgrade to a premier or business account.
