Yep....I learned everything I know about colouring and making a face from my very first online class...which was the Echliln doll...the same pattern as Mertika... 'sept I gave her a tail and made her a bit different.  there was about 20 pages of information and I downloaded it.  I refer to it all the time still when I do a doll face.  There are also some great cloth doll books...and lots of classes online.  The Cloth Doll Connection is another site that offers classes on an ongoing basis.   Also if u are interested in cloth dolls.... just find any of the doll artists names..who sell pattern on those sites...and check out their classes that a lot of them offer.   I definitely think you should give it a go...

Anyway...I was going to also say, you could take a short online class.  They have them at DollStreet Dreamers site... also Joggles has some on occasion... and if you type in polymer clay or add sculpting to that...you will be blown away with all the stuff you can see...and even pick up a few freebie online tutorials.  Also have a look at the site...   http://www.studiowillich.com/StudioWillichDolls.htm    I love the stuff and they have a tutorial on hands and feet etc...         Also...each site you go to has links to others....

be prepared to sit at your computer for a while just gawking...lol

if you enjoy sculpting you should definitely give it a go again.  Our first efforts on anything new or different usually seem a bit amateurish to us.  Where can you go but up?  And it does take some practece.. perhaps a lesson or two.  When I first attempted some sculpting I was pretty surprised to find out that "sculpting" was not what I thought at all.

Not trying to create any hard feelings here Sarah...I was just saying....

Also..I have been to Peta's site..seen her bears...and I am not sure what the worry is.  Hers are a huge cut above... so why even worry about it?

The smoking thing is too funny.   Why would a bear maker even mention that?   No matter what you do you can't hide that smell from a non smoker..  but smokers don't understand it.

Actually, you may be surprised to know that a friend here bought a bear with toes like that years ago...they have been popular in Germany and other European areas for quite a few years now.

Even if u see what you think are "your" bears out and about.... there is not a thing you can do really and when it comes down to it..there is hardly anything new under the sun.  It has all been done somewhere before.......

This is my favourite thread..... a fun one......... always good for a smile or a laugh.... and for sure an awwwwwwww

Chrissi....no you don't talk too much.  I am sure I have you beat on that.       But, this whole thing needs lots of sorting out to make the next one right..... and I just wanted to compliment you on sticking with it....   and thanks Shelli as well, for continuing to grind through all of the posts and info and simplifying it as much as you are doing.   Good on ya!

By Nitty gritty Chrissi......  I just meant that you were getting right into the meat and potatoes of it ....the main substance...the ground rules as you say....        ....  and that is what you are doing... not that you were being picky.either.....

   Every post has to be so carefully thought out and worded doesn't it?  so that we don't get the wrong ideas reading the wording......and/or hurt somebody's feelings or step on toes....  It is tough to say exactly what we mean in the right way and without being ...erm.... over"bear"ing or anything...   We can't hear the voice inflection ...can't see the facial expressions... (and in my case the hand waving as I am French!)   very annoying... okay everybody... web cams is next and we can really have a good old fashioned "sit down" where we can see each other!   I do hope everybody is taking all of this with the usual "bag" of salt ....forget the "pinch" and we will get all the wrinkles ironed out nice and smooth.    Ooooooh, I so want to do a little swap and have it all just go tickety boo!!

Actually, maybe that is the answer.  Just doing smaller swaps?  Suppose it is a thought.....   .   If we don't have to put weeks and months into them....like ...a whole "Biggun" bear... perhpas it would not be as upsetting if things didn't pan out well.  The Christmas ornament swap seemed to be so successful....sigh......... .

good for you Chrissi..... trying to get to the nitty gritty even though it is getting more and more involved.   Seems this whole situation has now taken on a life of its own and will still need more clarification and also more special placing as you are suggesting just to keep it well visible and easily found by swapees/swappers.. and also and especially swap co-ordinators as it appears much will fall to them if things go awry.  It would definitely be best if we could have just continued in the spirit of fun; friendship and ease...but after all the moaning and whining of late.... this is pretty much where we are at this point.  And you are so right about not being able to track down a topic by the title of a thread.... it is impossible.....
