Thanks, Melissa- Chernobyl might be a good one for her- Like you said, it had far reaching consequences. She might be able to research that a bit. She's working on this til Friday.

Many people will go out to eat in a restaurant and spend the same amount of money-or more- that a bear costs and frequently the meal might not be perfect. Yet they will go out again because the overall experience was good. Some people ARE attracted by the quirks, the head on the side, the eyes not perfect, the nose not exactly the way you wanted. My family's faces (and my own) aren't perfect but I wouldn't change them for anything and I think they are beautiful. Enjoy what you make and don't stress over it!  bear_original

thanks, all. I remembered Challenger because I was teaching 9th grade Physical Science that year ('85-'86) and I took my students into the classroom next to us so we could watch the TV coverage(as a new teacher, I didn't have the clout to get a TV in my room). I can't think of anything that I feel was significant and under-reported, though- Will have to pick my husband's brain when he gets home(Poli-Sci major!)

My daughter called from college today with some questions about the 80's for a project and I thought of this thread right away. One of her questions was what was the most significant underreported fact or event of the decade. Another was important world events. I drew a blank on the first one and am hoping for a non- USA slant on the second one. If anyone has any ideas they are willing to share, I'd really appreciate it!
Thanks-- Suzanne

This is more of a question for the newbies than for those of you with established websites... When you first started selling bears, did you use your regular paypal account to receive payments, or did you get a business account right from the start? I feel like I'm getting into deeper water than I'm comfortable with and I a) don't know the right question to ask and b) who I should be asking. bear_wacko

Hi, Melissa- I'd love to participate too! I'm in and out of Philadelphia every week and could take him to the historical sights. He could see the Constitution Center, Independence Hall, Ben Franklin, etc.  bear_original

Judi- I also am very sorry about your kitty. I hope you all feel happier soon and just have fond memories of the ttime you had with your pet.   Suzanne

Thank you everyone. Sue Ann- I went to search, and although I didn't find what I was looking for, I did find some help- from you!  bear_laugh  There is a picture in the multi- colored bear thread of one of your bears. (S)he is reddish and has similar paws.. and I love it!  bear_original

Hi- I have been trying to draw new arms for one of my patterns and I have I nice down-turned paw shape ( at least, it looks nice on paper!) but I started to wonder about paw pads. Do those of you that do these paws put on regular paw pads? It almost seems like the inner arm should be the same shape as the outer  arm with a sort of tear drop shape paw pad facing backwards. I have never seen a bear in person with this shape arms so I have no point of reference. I've seen plenty of photos on TT, but have never noticed or thought to look at these kind of arms. I hope I have described what I am imagining accurately- Thanks in advance for any feedback you can give me.  bear_original   Suzanne

Thank you Marie!  bear_wub  That bear is so cute. I'm getting ready to start but I want to draw new arms. I think the ones I have are too slim and need to be chubbier. I am in the grip of knitting fever right now so it is hard to force myself to do it as designing a pattern is not my favorite part of bear making.  bear_wacko

Congratulations, Danni     - Bearwitched looks great!

Shelli- Over here in New Jersey - and in Pa. where we lived when we were first married- everyone goes outside and bangs pots and pans together. I have no idea why but it was sort of fun and ushered in the New Year in a festive way!

sewzanne

Kim- I always think of tabouli and tsatziki(sp?) and gyros when I think of middle eastern cooking. Are they middle eastern or am I confusing them with Greek foods? We get enlightened about all sorts of stuff here!

sewzanne

Thanks, Paula, Estelle, and Heather!  bear_original  I am really afraid to experiment with this for some reason even though I have cut in many fabrics without even a second thought. I guess I just think I could make something really neat and that I might mess it up
          Suzanne

sewzanne

How do you all lay out your patterns on tie-dyed fabric? Do you try to match up colors on the head and gusset, on the front body seam, etc., or is the mismatch part of the charm of the fabric? I will be thankful for any insight- especially from Marie if she sees this as I think she made a bear out of the same fabric I'm contemplating. I just looked it up- it is Qual. 340 s/b color 727sb fantasy vanilla/lavender/gold/brown.
   Thanks-    Suzanne

Rita, I always believed it was good luck to leave everything up until Jan. 6, too, and it certainly is easier to do now that we have an artificial tree! bear_original  Happy New  Year !

Thanks Debi- I love her cards, too and sent them to a bunch of people last year. The dog reminds me of our dog.

Hi- Kim, thanks for the PM. It worked, and now I am looking forward to starting on a bear ornament for next year's tree.  bear_wub
Debbie D- Thanks so much for the kind comment. That is my Kool-aid bear, dyed with 2 grape, 1 raspberry, and one pink lemonade! My son said I should name her Kool-aid punch.  bear_grin

Shantell, he is such a cute baby! To me he looks just a little lonesome, like he's waiting to be picked up and cuddled. Great job

Daphne, I know what you mean... I had off from work Wednesday and did 9 kinds of cookies and 3 candies in an all day long cooking marathon and I really don't want to look at them or eat them at this point!  bear_grin

Marie, that panda is adorable! And Shantell, I'm sure yours will be wonderful and lovable when it is done.
