For artists and collectors sponsored by Intercal...your mohair supplier and Johnna's Mohair Store
Hey James, THANK YOU for creating this app....if need be, I'll dig my old 3Gs from the graveyard, but I would much rather use my Note 4 for that purpose. Please do write an Android version, there's a much bigger market there than IOS (and better camera/editing options too)
~CHEERS!!
@dangerbears
The second elephant you have pictured is by "JuJu" plush....they are available new on ebay.
I'm thinking that the golden boy is an ideal or maybe Dean's, the blond fellow is German, but I can't narrow it down more than that. They are weathered, and hard to identify. but that in itself makes them precious.
He's an artist made bear, yes mohair as well. the sewn on ears are typical of artist bears. I see there is writing on his paw...close-up please?
Just had to have it for my upcoming camping trip, it'll be chilly at night, and I'm sure my bears will find it amusing :)
@peter.....I envy you, you'll be getting yours relatively cheap. they cost $40 per inflatable to ship to the US :(
I got one of those odd looking "Chipmunks", cropped the ears and did some repainting, and he makes a fairly decent bear cub.
@UsBears....adorable! My bears make the best drinking buddies ever, since they never drink up all my good booze, they never get embarrassed and ditch me when I get too drunk, and best of all, they don't mind when I drink myself to the sloppy-huggy stage. (actually they rather like that).
Hi Peter, I'll let you know when these are available- they can be ordered long before they are put on the website, but only a few of us who are in contact with the company owner know that ;)
keep in mind though that direct sunlight will damage these guys quickly, they aren't like pooltoys. I only take mine outside when the sun gets below the trees.
WOW....he's so dead-on with Paddington in the upcoming movie, great work!
Congrats for the accolades, they're well deserved
@Peterbear......The "Moosehead camp counselor" bear inflatable pictured in my original post is long since retired, but this big fellow will soon be available for purchase from inflatableworld.de :
(this prototype is rough looking, but it's just a first draft, there are numerous revisions planned to make it look better before it's mass produced)
He's 7 feet tall, and will be available in March probably.
@Phil- LOL...yeah, he tries to look fierce, but it's all hot air, you know.
@Laura THANKS! looks like that's it, I'll give them a try tonight.
I was too tired after a long day to do anything, but was still a bit lonely, so I had a hookah and whiskey in the backyard with a couple of pals....
Hi all, does anyone have a contact email or phone # for beyondbears.com? I have located a bear they are searching for, but their contact page keeps 404'ing every time I click submit....any help would be greatly appreciated!
First, omg what an adorable picture :)
second, can you get other pics of the bear....it's little to go on as it is, but the side shot isn't helping much.
When would he have gotten the bear (era is important to identification) does he know what store the bear came from?
He's definitely home made...I remember another bear collector referring to those fondly as Gramma teddies :)
If you really like him, I'd advise biting the bullet on the shipping, since he's surely a one-off. It shouldn't be that bad, a two pound packet from the UK to US is usually $40 or so.
FYI, not my auction, or anyone I know, just passing this along-
The big bear is a Gund Design "Midas". I really don't think this guy has any idea what he has, I got mine "used" for $70 plus shipping and was happy to have him at that price. these are even harder to find than Signature Series.
He's about 22 inches long and "squishy" with super soft feathery fur.
So if you like older Gund bears, I suggest you grab him, he's giving Midas away at that price.
Tickle is gorgeous! Charlie Bears makes such wonderful bears!
You gave up far too quickly.
here is how you should go about it....
get a pen and paper- write out a short description of bob, as best you can....measure him from ears to foot (standing) and keep that handy. Now try using different iterations of that description including his size, color, ect.
and make a habit of scouring listings once a week. IT WILL TAKE A LONG TIME. be patient.
members here have found many bear copies that way.
Hi....Bob isn't a Gund, they never made feet like that. My guess is probably Dan-Dee Intl. They were sold in many big-box stores and toy stores. but the only way to make a positive ID on a bear like this is to find an identical one on ebay, which is certainly doable if you are willing to put the time in.
I see you have an Aurora "Bruiser"- nice choice...I have a few myself, they're very expressive bears and give great hugs
Though it's good to see that they came to their senses and pulled the Chinese manufactury, I would take a Hansa or Charlie bear over Steiff any day of the week (and at a much lower price) .
In the 25 years I've been collecting, they really haven't evolved their designs much, and they seem over-rated to me now.
That having been said, they still make wonderful replicas of their early jointed bears, nothing beats the charm of the first Steiff bears that were made under Margaret Steiff
I've never been a huge fan of steiff , especially in recent years (most of their stuff is made in china now)
But I do have a few, the 3 steiff bears I have in particular I love very much....despite their questionable parentage, I couldn't disobey when they told me to take them home :)
give him a chance....he looks like a wonderful cuddler (I originally thought he might be a kinser when I first saw him). if his seams give trouble, just turn him inside out and run new seams.
Hey, welcome back!
He's a lovely bear, I don't think anything is wrong with his fur, that particular fur style is mostly polyester, which makes it feel a bit tacky.
I wish we could do that with humans....but I digress...
I do something close to that, but more precipitously. I'll need to keep all the pieces around through the first few incarnations for reference until I'm sure I "have it right" if you know what I mean, then once I'm confident that the pattern has passed into my personal vernacular I'll add the pieces to the stuffing of a single bear. No ambiguity that way, that particular bear is the "reincarnation".
all that heavy stuff aside, this will be fun. I'll get to play with the second of my two all time favorite designs, and see if I can make someone perfect
