Suggestions from the North.......Southern Tier Cubs? or Teddy Smith? Kodiak Smith?
Give my husband a challenge, and he won't stop.......
I like the name Apple Dumpling Bears, makes me think of the Apple Dumpling Gang
Ellen
How do we go out in that snow? Very carefully Once the plows have been on the road, it's not too bad......the snow isn't the bad part in going out,
When the temperatures get to a minus 30 F, that is difficult, but once it get belows 0, it doesn't matter much.....
I wouldn't live anywhere that doesn't get snow..... the more the better
Ellen
Thank you Daphne, hopefully this all works. I think it did........
The first picture is the front of the house with all the snowflakes falling down as Ti and I went for our walk (before the snowplow came out!) The second picture is the back of the house when I went to feed the birds......yes, that is Ti standing there.
He will be 3 years old tomorrow (Sunday, Dec. 11)
The last picture is the Raquette River at the end of the street looking across to the park and the evergreens all covered in snow. All together yesterday we only got about 2 inches of snow......hopefully more will come soon.
Ellen
I have some pictures I took this morning, but can't remember how to post them......any help?????
Ellen
Happy Morning......It is snowing here this morning it is still kind of dark outside, but the snow is coming down, not heavy, but quickly  Such a lovely sight to see. I know that Western NY is getting a whole lot more than we are up here, hope you all stay safe and don't get too buried in it!
I just love the snow and miss the snow banks and stuff from when I was a kid.
Today just might be the day I take a pic. of my house to post, since I haven't done that yet
Hope you all enjoy the snow, or whatever weather you have for the holidays!
 Ellen
Merry Christmas to one and all.
How do you people have the time to check out all these other sites? I can 'bearly' get through the new posts.......
I have all of my little knick-knacks up that I use at Christmas. We don't have our tree yet, not sure when we can go to find one. I have been busy with orders..... a workshop this weekend with 28 kids, 4 "fur" bears (from coats) and a last minute order for 2 bears in Hockey outfits!!!! I love the orders, but why all at the same time?
I will post pics of our tree once it is up.... I am in the Christmas mood, been listening to Christmas music all day.... but they haven't played my favorite ones yet.... maybe I'll call them
Oh, I heard that today is St. Nicholas Day.....so happy St. Nick Day.
Ellen
What does Christmas taste like.....hmmmm cookies, lots of them, date nut balls, either Lamb or Duck for dinner......lots of dip and chips.
New Year's Eve tastes like pickled Herring, a tradition my father started when I was very young, enjoy the stuff every year, the first thing I eat in the new year!

Daphne.....if you get to move here to the Corning Plant, I would love it. This is beautiful country, not as much woods as New Hampshire, but a lot of water and woods in some places. My daughter lived in Littleton and worked at the Franconia Inn, so I know a little about New Hampshire. My Girl Scout Troop is planning a trip to Franconia State Park in June. Any suggestions of where to go/what to see?
Explanation on the 1/2 canoe. A few years ago my daughter gave Daddy a book on how to build a wood strip canoe. So, as a winter project he made the first. He likes it, but wanted to change the pattern. Last winter he started on canoe #2, which is still in the basement 1/2 put together..... I think he plans to finish it this winter. I, of course, help him in the best way
I stay upstairs working on bears while he goes downstairs and works!
 Ellen
Northern NY has had a few quakes.....the one we had a couple of years ago was my first (and only so far ) I was upstairs, my husband downstairs.....I heard this noise and felt this trembling and couldn't figure out what he was doing....he wasn't doing a thing  he was in the bathroom  The quake sounded like a huge construction truck coming donw the road. Didn't do any major damage, but enough for some people that work with my hubby.
All you in Earthquake areas.......stay safe.
Ellen
How do businesses like that stay in business? I get so frustrated when making calls or contacting someone and the call is never returned....... Anyway, I do mostly consignment. I have a list, as does the store, of what I have brought in and they send me a check after a bear sells (if they do) The 2 places I sold to outright, they paid for the bears the day I delivered them. For web orders, I do not ship the bear until I have received payment.
Records are a great thing......a personal visit would be better. I hope it all works out for you.......
Ellen
About the fingernails.....I have tried the icky stuff, just chewed it off to get to the nails! BUT! this time I am determined to keep the 3 I have on the right hand. Thanks for all the suggestions.
If anyone wants to travel, you are more than welcome to come for a visit. As a matter of fact.....we can arrange a weekend at my camp   Camp is about 1 hour from Watertown, near Black Lake. We are on a small lake, have a cabin we built, and a lean-to, heat, hot & cold water (non-drinkable) No Electric, so any bear making is done without electricity.
We have 3 1/2 canoes, an antique boat (if it works), a 1 person sailboat and a 4-wheeler......I LOVE to have visitors. If anyone is interested, I will set up a date between June and September, 2006......(can't believe it is almost 2006)
I am close to a Corning Plant also.......but they don't make the Corning Ware stuff either....very technical stuff made there. Out in the sticks, don't know it's there unless you have been by it.
Terrie, I bite my nails too, at age 52.......But, I now have nails on my right hand..... the reason is that it has been in a splint for 3 weeks, so I couldn't bend it to my mouth! I want very much to keep the nails, but have no idea what to do to take care of them.........they feel soooooo weird.
Ellen
Lets see what I can come out of the closet with...... I am perfectly healthy, for the most part....no disorders. I talk to all of my stuffed animals and miniture bone china collection.
I talk to any animal I find outside. I love most veggies, and am on a See-food diet (I see it, I eat it) have gained about 35 pounds since we moved north 6 years ago.
I love the area we live in, but am very lonely. I don't work outside the house except occasional Red Cross classes I teach, so spend most of my time alone at home with my bears. People here in the North Country are very nice, but if you aren't from here and have no history with them, you won't be invited "in"
I have been told that I am difficult to get to know, which I know I am. But once I start talking, watch out! One would think with the jobs I have had, that I would be very out-going, but I am not......my jobs have included teaching First Aid, CPR and swimming classes, driving school bus and choir director at my church, also Girl Scout Leader. I would just rather stay in the back and not be seen.
If I am in a group and finally decide to say something, I get very nervous , but things usually work out. Finally, 30 years after graduating High School, I graduated college (class of 2001) Enjoyed college the 2nd time around, much easier to do the work, and I made fun of the 'Traditional" students and their lack of knowledge of things that I lived through.......
I have a couple of big fears: Number 1 is Spiders....I can't stand them, call my husband to get rid of them, by whatever means he sees fit. I love to camp and canoe, but have a fear of night time and being alone.........
I have never lived on my own. Married my husband at age 20 when I still lived at home and we have been together for almost 32 years. I love to travel......best trip was to Antarctica where I would return to in an instant if I could find someone to pay my way. I would love to get to China to visit the Moon Bears and Panda Bears.
All of you with health problems are in my prayers......
God Bless you all.........Ellen
Thursday and/or Friday, my hubby and I will travel the 1 1/2 hours to the mall to shop. I just ordered most of our gifts by phone...... Yay!
Shelli: did you see, back in February, that Vermont Teddy Bear Co. got in trouble with the Mental Health people for putting one of their bears in a straight jacket? Called it "Crazy for You" for Valentine's day.....what a mean thing to do to an adorable Teddy Bear! :(
I actually enjoy going shopping with my husband.......that way he doesn't yell when I spend so much and it is a nice time to be together, which doesn't happen very often.
  Ellen
I, for one would be interested in plastic safety eyes, noses and joints (especially if the joints are 30 mm)
Ellen
Wow  I remember them all......My favorite singer, who I will dump my husband for, is Neil Diamond. Our daughter and son bought us tickets to his concert in Albany this past August. He has slowed down some, but he is still.... wonderful! My husbands favorite group was Seals and Crofts...... no one mentioned them yet.
Actually, I can listen to most music, except Country and (C)rap ( I always told my kids they left a letter off when they named it Rap)
I can even listen to opera, loved my visit to the MET in NYC many many years ago......haven't been back.
But!
i do live in the Cultural and Educational Center of Northern New York and saw the Nutcracker last week......it was fun.
 Ellen
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.
I'd rather have the snow than the ice.
Up here in Northern New York State, we had a litlle snow over Thanksgiving. Made the drive to the In-laws a little long.
Yesterday was a nice day with the snow and cooler temps. ( around 30 F) Today is a mess. Schools are delayed because of freezing rain. Tomorrow is supposed to be rain and in the 60s F!
Since I have grown up in New York and only visited warmer climates, I love the cold and the change of seasons. We decided on a recent trip to Florida that the South is not for us in retirement.......Maybe Montana!
So, Let it Snow..... I love it and so do my bears.......I will need to take them out when we get some and take a pic of them frolicking in it.....
Ellen
Hello fellow American Teddy Bear people......just want to wish you all a Bear-y Happy and healthy Thanksgiving......
Don't eat too much, save some for the bears!
No snow here yet to speak of but the forcast is for a lot of it south of me. Hopefully we will get some, but not so much that it forces us to stay home.
 Ellen
the picture of the bear looks great......the dress is beautiful. I don't think you will have a problem selling it. Even if we aren't hapy with a bear, other people might be. Good luck on eBay.....let us know when she goes up so we can check her out.
Ellen
:hug:Kathy, Hugs to you for being there to give them some support. I will put him on my prayer list, and your husband too, hope his surgery went OK.
Ellen
:teddybear:Aaahhh, s'mores and the smell of an outdoor campfire......at this time of year when we have a winter storm warning for today.......s'mores are my favorite. Have you ever tried a Banana Boat?
Take a banana, peel a portion of the peel , but do not pull it off. Scoop out a bit of banana, (eat it as you take it out) then fill this space with chocolate chips, mini marshmallows, peanut butter can also be used ( I can't stand the stuff ). Put the peel back over the top, wrap in aluminum foil and put on the campfire (or grill) for a short time until the chocolate melts and you have a very gooey yummy concoction.
Ellen
we may buy presents for ourselves, but we wait until the 'day' to open them......even with the kids gone. i am making my hubby a special gift for christmas, and i plan to take it with us for him to open in front of other people! he has no idea....hopefully i will get it done in time.
as for decorating the house and tree for christmas....i grew up in a family that waited until christmas eve to decorate the tree, my husband's family decorated long before christmas. so as the kids were growing up, we would alternate years until they were old enough and life got too hectic and we would decorate the tree about a week early. a tradition we have kept for over 30 years is that we go out together (with the dog) and cut down our tree....through snow, ice, negative temperatures or temperatures way too warm......it is a wonderful time and experience.......
Ellen
 hugs to you on your loss.....  dance and hugs to wish you luck on your show. Hope to hear tomorrow that it went well.
Are you near Columbus? My son lives there......
Ellen
Very good.....I tell people that I don't color my hair, because each one has a name attached to it...my own family and names from the kids I drove on my school bus for 16 years!!!!!!
Now I know my statement is true...... Ellen
