that would probably work....I'll have to pick up another on the way home from work. Who knows, it may have just been stale.

:P

OK....I've been jinxed. I ate that stupid Caramilk bar, without sharing with the other staff here, and now I'm suffering an embarrassing stomach upset.

I used to post on the other but switched over to this one a few months ago when I realized this was the "in" place.

I can't believe I did this - it's all your fault. A new family client just called to make an appointment. She works at the Hersey's factory. She asked what she shd bring in and I told her what I needed...and added that she shd bring a bag of the broken chocolate bars!

Marion

oh god....I forgot about the diet buddies.....please, I beg of you....don't tell on me!

I just bought myself a Caramilk bar to go with my lunch....yummy

I enjoy the CSI's and Law & Order shows, except for CSI Miami - can't stand Horatio. Also enjoy Animal Planet and Antique Roadshow. The new Doctor Who show is a big favourite but will wait to see how I like it this year with the new actor playing the Doctor. I do not watch scary movies, including psychological scary movies. I do like science fiction type movies for the most part.
Since I hand-sew my bears I've got all my stuff set up beside me and I can watch TV while sewing. That way I don't feel like I'm totally wasting my time.

I do love Caramilk bars but usually can get away with just drooling over them in the store. We live close to the Hersey's plant h/e and went by a couple of weeks ago and bought a big bag of the broken almond bars. I ate so much the first day that I wasn't feeling too good the next; that didn't stop me from eating more chocholate tho! :)

I still remember my childhood bear called Honey. I think it was a handmade sock type toy. My mother handed it down to my brother and he destroyed it. I still haven't forgiven him and that was 50ish years ago. One day when he isn't looking I'll get even.

Best wishes for all of you. Glad the baby is OK and I'm sure your daughter will recover quickly.

Hello, A.L.  As far as I can tell, Liquid Soap was invented by  Hendrik Willem Brouwer of  Holland, working for Lever Brothers. He received patent number US4065398: Liquid soap
composition. You can read more about this invention at this webpage.

As for why - I can only guess that Lever Brothers saw the potential to increase sales and profits due to the convenience of a soap that could easily be dispensed in public places like public
restrooms, as a better alternative than providing a community bar of soap (do you really want to wash your hands with  a bar of soap covered with some stranger's dirt and germs?), and as
a more comfortable alternative to providing powdered soap (I have used it in public restrooms in the past...feels like you are washing your hands with  Ajax or Comet. Uncomfortable).

In fact, since the invention of liquid soap, there have been a whole lot of patents for equipment that  dispenses liquid soap, so the market is obviously there!

I can't believe you don't know what Caramilk Bars are - I knew you Americans were deprived but that is just ridiculous. I feel so bad for you all.

I have used a couple of growlers and found they do sound like a cow. Just can't see the point of them.

the above is their web site. The mohair is all Schulte. Unfortunately they don't list much on the page but the catalogue is pretty comprehensive.
It shows the following: violin, guitar, sax, tuba, trumpet, trombone and some other horned instruments. They all come with the appropriate cases. The violin and guitar have 24cm beside them and the others range from 9cm to 16 cm for the clarinet.
Prices are 30.50 euro for the violin and guitar and 18.00 euro for the rest.
Really nice selection of clothing including lederhausen, suspenders and knapsacks.
I can copy and send more info if interested.

I had posted earlier about my sister's friend sending me mohair from German. Some of it came yesterday....I'm in love. A beautiful piece of tones of dark green hedgehog mohair, polar bear mohair and grey alpaca plus the matching threads and a selection of glass eyes! As a bonus she sent the catalog from the store in Mannhein, which is just beautiful. Now all I have to do is learn German. They have a large selection of clothes for bears and musical instruments and toys.
This w/e I intend to be busy designing a new pattern for that hedgehog mohair - can't wait to get started.

I'm late on this thread too. I love almost all kinds of music; classic rock, jazz, classical, some country, easy listening...even some rap. I blast rock/rap music while doing housework and play the quieter music while sewing. I haven't played an instrument since high school tho (cello)  and can't sing worth a darn.

I like to set in the eyes, do the nose and then I "eyeball" the ears. I pin them on and then hold the head out to see if I like the position and re-pin if necessary. Occasionally they are a bit off but usually are OK. Let's face it; people's features are not really symetrical so I figure a teddy's features can be the same.

Jesus was asked by St. Peter to guard the Gate when he went on vacation.
An old man knocked for admittance and Jesus asked why he expected to be allowed in heaven. The old man said that he had raised a son that was beloved by all. People came from far around to watch him and hear him speak and that his son had been dead but then rose from the dead and lived again to bring joy to many.
Jesus cried out “Father” and the old man held out his arms and cried “Pinnochio”!

Maybe we should declare a joke day on this forum.
have a great weekend everyone.

AS you know, I only hand sew my bears. On the mini's I often use a micro pen and draw a seam allowance, otherwise I eyeball it. If you go to a quilter's shop - probably Out-of-Hand - you can get a quilters tool to mark the seam allowance. I think it's a round flat circle that you pencil fits in and you can draw along the pattern. But as I know you mainly machine sew - the easiest would be to use thin masking tape on the thoat plate of your sewing machine to mark the seam allowance line.

Nanc...my three are more than a lapful, trust me. Butch and George are about 30 lb each and Gracie is about 14 lbs. That's about 75lbs of squirming, wriggling dog, all insisting on equal time for scratching or anything else. They all sleep with us, under the covers and against us, which is really great in the winter but not so fun in the summer. The pic of them was taken in the middle of winter - they follow the sun around the room so they can sleep in the sun beam. In the summer they love to lounge on top of the hot tub in the full sun. If anyone visits with another dog I have to lock them up cause they are not dog friendly but they do absolutely love people and are firmly convinced that everyone loves them.  You should get another one - no one should be without a Boston!

Hugs,
Marion

"I'm the oldest of five, so of course impose ridiculous expectations/requirements on myself like any self-respecting first-born would do."

I'm the oldest of eleven and feel the same. As well, my siblings are extremely supportive. (it probably helps that I terrorized them when young and they are still afraid of me bear_original    My Dad likes to drink and we have to watch how much and actually lock it up so he doesn't overdo it. Makes me feel strange but he knows why we're doing it and he knows that he can't control it himself. My Mom was such a strong woman it's hard to try to fill her shoes. As it is, my youngest brother and sister's kids think of me more as a grandmother than an aunt since I'm 20 years older than their parents. Isn't it great to be at the top of the food chain.

Hugs and best wishes,
Marion

Heather, good buddy, great pal. I'm drooling - what great eyes. How many did you get and what sizes? They look like they have wires to loop, right?

Nanc...there are times that I'd gladly mail one of mine to whoever wants them but actually they are the greatest dogs I've ever had. Such clowns. They don't beg so much as demand but they're so darn cute about it. I'll never be without a Boston again h/e three are a bit much at times, although my neighbour actually has six! way too many Bostons. My three are a pack but her six are a street gang. Good thing we're on farms.

I started making bears 6 years ago to keep my hands busy while trying to lose weight. I fell in love with it immediately because I also found it relieved stress (I also work in a law firm).

I guess I'm mainly inspired by other artists and try for a funky look. I have bought several artist bears and they're all odd in one way or another.

Well, if we're going to post dog pics here's mine! The Poms are beautiful but I do love my Bostons!

I went through this after the sudden death of my Mom. Both my parents had lived with us for the past 20 years - in good health. Suddently my Dad took sick for the first time in his life at age 82 and had to be hospitalized. Then my Mom was struck down by leukemia. My Dad stayed in the hospital for 3-1/2 months and I was told that he'd never get any better than he was and would have to go to a nursing home. (he was incontenent and could hardly get out of  bed unassisted) Luckily there was an excellent home in our area and as a vet he was financially assisted as well. We were fortunate because after less than 3 mths in the nursing home he finally consented to come home for a visit - he hadn't been home for over 6 mths! The day visit became an overnight visit and the next weekend we brought him home for a longer trial....he never went back. Now at 85 he's still cutting the grass and doing chores around the farm. Nursing homes are a good thing - they made him get up and come to meals and kept him from sinking into depression with all the activities. We've gone thru a similar time with my husband's Mom. She's now in a vet hospital nursing home and I'm sure this has extended her life.
I did find h/e that the more you visit the better the care. The home realizes that this resident has a lot of support and seems to try harder themselves.
Good Luck,
Marion

It was and still is extremely hard to have lost my Mom so quickly. She was only 77 and if she was in a room you certainly knew it. During her illness she never once said "why me" but only how lucky she felt cause she had a chance to say goodbye to everyone, including her beloved cat.  She had 11 children, 20 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild and everyone of them got to the hospital although they are scattered across Canada. My daughter had to coordinate visits there were so many people lining up! She was a quilter and just loved to sew...and donated several quilts, wallhangings and XMAS nativity calenders to worthy causes each year. I was extremely fortunate to have been the last person sitting with her, holding her hand when she left us. Our whole family is fortunate in the memories we have of her, especially during that last month.
