Sorry Paula, none here.  Hope you find it soon.

I started stating that my auctions were paypal only when I kept getting fraudulent bids.  That has seemed to stop now - thankfully.  I will, however make an exception if someone I know wants to bid on my auction and doesn't have a Paypal account.   You have to do something on the ebay site to accept the bids though.

Marlys - those are scammers trying to get you to click on their link and give them information.  I received quite a few from them when I first started, and now don't get very many at all.  I NEVER click on a link in an email.  I always go to the web site and open up my messages.  Best to be safe.

Thanks for letting us have a peek at the show through your photos Jane - that was really great.  You did a wonderful job!

That is great, I was hoping it would be Sept. or October, however I'm off to look at your site now for more info.

I purchase my wax from "Beary Cheap" Bear making supplies in Australia (at lest I think that is who it is).  It comes in a wide variety of colours - I get the black and the dark brown.  I tape around the nose with masking tape so I won't get any on the fur or backing.  Then I just hold the wax piece in my hand until it is warm - then just rub it on going in the same direction as the embroidered threads, making sure I get it on evenly all over.  I don't put on a thick layer - you can still see the individual threads.  Then I rub it with any paper I have on hand - sometimes even my hand itself or a piece of fabric, and it comes up to a nice shine - not a bright wet look gloss though.  Don't rub it hard - just buff it.
Hope that helps.

I have received three very lovely cards - one from Claire (beary-clairey), one from Chrissi Catherwood, and one from Cheryl (bruinwerks).  Thank you so very much ladies, they are all lovely hand made cards.
Have a wonderful Valentine's day everyone.

Well, I certainly couldn't support myself.  However it makes a nice secondary income.  I use it mainly to purchase things that I want for the house, for myself, and to support the animals (although I lost my poor old horse last Saturday to colic).  Mind you, a goodly portion of it goes back into the business itself.

57 here, and hope for many more.  In my mind I am still the young 20-something "chick", but every now and again I catch sight of someone in a shop window, and wonder who that short, aging, slightly chubby woman is - a second later I realize - IT'S ME!!!

Jane Perala

Good question.  I have kept 4 of my bears from the "early" years that I was particularly pleased with, however all the ones I make now I sell.  I too need to help pay the bills.  There are several that I wish I had kept though, but hopefully they are in a good home.

When I first started selling on ebay a little over a year ago, I had no idea what shill bidding was.  I think it was a previous thread here that first brought it to my attention.  Yes, I feel it is VERY WRONG, for all the reasons that you have all said so much more eloquently than I ever could.
I must be very naive, because I don't notice things like that going on, and I watch the teddy auctions on ebay all the time - it all just goes over my head!   However, when I do find out about some sort of blatent dishonesty I get very angry. bear_angry
I hope ebay is able to sort it out soon, as I am not fond of the new system.  I have tried a couple of private auctions, in the hope that my customers would like it better, but it didn't seem to make any difference at all to any of them.  Most of my customers are repeat ones, so if I ever have the need to use the second chance option, I think I would contact them privately first by email, and then if they were interested, I would follow up with the second chance option through ebay.  Hopefully that way they would know that it was genuine.

Well, it's 10:30 pm here, so I'm off to bed.  Good night all!

I'm really computer challenged, so I just click edit once I have the first one posted, and add another picture that way too.

Yes, Johnna is always so very helpful - and always happy and upbeat.  It is a pleasure to do business with her.

Heather - you should get in touch with Mark McKay of Teddy Bears on Vacation.  He offers the credit card service at his shows.  It certainly is a great service to have.  I don't take credit cards anymore except by Paypal, because the merchant service wanted me to re- apply after about 15 years of previous service. They found out that I was taking telephone sales and said that I would have to also pay a "bond" - possibly of several thousand dollars - I told them they could keep their #$%^&*&$# credit card services!!!
If you cannot offer credit card services, then it would be great to have the show where there is a cash machine nearby.

What a shame Mindy - but I'm glad to hear that you are not letting it get you down.

I must remember to pick only the best flowers, wine and chocolate to send - even though I haven't entered a contest in MANY years maybe I will have a chance then

Paula, does this mean that you tried the "distressed" bear you were mentioning in another thread, and it didn't work?  Do tell us please.  I wish you had taken pics. bear_original

I know just what you mean.  My New Year's resolution was to try and comment on everyone's wonderful creations - however that quickly fell by the wayside - just not enough time in the day!
