Gatehouse Bears

What a wonderful gift....have an aunt who has been truly inspirational to many people and if I tweek the idea a bit, would suit her perfectly.  Thanks Laura Lynn, so glad you heard about this.

Gatehouse Bears

Ooowww!!! I'm dying to know too.  If some one wants to PM me I'm not good with secrets...I HAVE to know

Gatehouse Bears

I watched it on CNN last night and it looked really bad.  Keep inside Jane, you don't want to be breathing that honey bun.

Gatehouse Bears

Help!!  I've never heard of this movie and it sounds great.  Is it like a 'National Lampoon' Christmas Vacation (you know with Chevy Chase as Mr Griswold) or more subtle and who's in it.
I'm trying to work out if maybe the movie has another title here(some have)

Gatehouse Bears

Thanks so much for this thread gals and guys, I'm right in the middle of getting my website redone by a professional and I hadn't thought of what words I would need.  Now I can be ready when she asks me the same questions and I won't feel like a dope and have to ask what sh'e talking about

Gatehouse Bears

Dilu, it sounds wonderful, but let us know if you start to whinney and count with your hoof.

Yes, I get 17inches out of a fat 1/4, but its my pattern and I'm really good at squishing arms and legs onto the mohair.  I don't know about discs because we work in mm's and cm's 'down under' and I use 35mms for arms and 45mm's for legs, but mine are designed to wear clothing and have longer legs than bare bears, therefore different proportions.

Gatehouse Bears

OK, I know that 'different strokes for different folks' thing, but I alway work with pile travelling down for body.  I know that it appears to travel in different directions but there is always a direction if you look at the piece.  I ignore the curls and swirls when doing the body, but 'CHOOSE' the piece I'm going to use for the head.  I'm looking for a reasonably straight flow for the gusset and I want the side head pieces to move in an 'out and down' way from the nose.  To achieve this I usually tip one side head 90 degrees so that the arrow for pile direction is going across and not down.  This stops that "hair coming forward' look that some beginners get.
Hope this helps, but don't be afraid to brush or comb the mohair to get a closer look at the natural flow of things.(I actually steam the face to get it combed exactly right)

Gatehouse Bears

Yep, don't panic, mohair is SO much easier than synthetic (particularly the dense stuff) its so much easier to stuff without so much stretching.....how many times have I said 'so much'?  You know we're all here if you need help but I think you'll be fine bear_thumb  bear_thumb  bear_thumb

Gatehouse Bears

Thanks for the link Patsy and merry Christmas to you and yours.  You're so clever to find these wonderful sites,  I don't know how to do it

Gatehouse Bears

Thanks gals.  The mags are Australian Dolls, Bears and Collectables and I can't remember when it comes out(Maybe March?) and Australian Bear Creations due out in April.
I'm just so glad to get them finished, but I kept thinking I'd forgotten something, only to remember the other night that I'd forgotten to send the pattern pieces for the jacket on one   Silly me

Gatehouse Bears

At last I'm back
It seems like ages since I've visited (I was lurking abit) but I accidently agreed to do 2 Projects for magazines with deadlines 1 week apart bear_shocked  bear_shocked  bear_shocked  bear_shocked  bear_shocked
Finally got the last of the instructions typed up and sent yesterday and feel like a big weight has been lifted.
NOW I've got to catch up with Christmas shopping, grocery shopping(the cupboard is BEAR) and the housework

Gatehouse Bears

It probably seems strange to those in the northern hemisphere, but our Christmas starts on the sunday evening before Christmas when the Rotary Club in Bendigo holds its annual 'Carols by Candlelight', in a big park.
My father is a member and dog show friends of ours drive across with a trailer full of Samoyeds.  We all meet at a secret location near the park and hook up the dogs to a large sleigh with coloured lights and a big jolly Santa.
When we get our cue (mobile phone these days) we begin our run....across the road.....You should see the looks on the peoples faces when they get stopped by the police so Santa can cross the road!!....and thru the park...with 8 of us, 10 security guys (to keep the children from getting run over) and 7 dogs pulling the massive sleigh it must be a great sight.  Santa gets up on the stage to talk to the children while we grab drinks and give the dogs a rest and then its time to fight our way back to base.
You can't imagine the funny things that have happened over the last 14 years, like the time the sleigh JUST MISSED hitting a parked car(imagine the insurance claim), or the night we nearly ran over a sleeping drunk(he wasn't sleeping for long) but seeing the joy on the faces of those children has been the best.
After we've finished we go back to the park and sit together and sing carols in the summer night and THEN I'm into the Christmas spirit.

I try to be organised, but it doesn't always work that way.

I only work on one or two pieces at a time, but I get most of my mohair, eyes, paw fabric, shoes and dress fabrics sent from America.  If I run out I have to wait for 2-3 weeks for the supplies to be shipped........so I work on the RON system........I have a BIG stash and keep lots of fabrics for RON (lateRON that is )

So that's my excuse when I see something I like.....well I just have to have it for RON.

Getting buried under my stash,
Glenys

Gatehouse Bears

I'll be going to the show in May, so I'll see you both there, Hayley and Melissa.  If its any help, I stand at the front of my table, because my setup is so high (and I'm so short) I can't stand behind bear_grin bear_grin bear_grin

I always chat with the other artists, but if a customer comes over its sort of an unwritten rule that you just stop chatting to talk to your customer.  I don't engage customers in hard sell stuff (I've seen plenty of others do it and I can't be that blatant) but you get to know the body language when they want to talk.

If you need some help on the day, just ask, I'd be glad to assist if I can.

Glenys
