I am a full time worker as well (not bears) with kids, dogs, hubby, cooking, cleaning etc....

The basic housework is done whenever, progressively during the week after work, so weekends are free.   Bears are worked on from 7.30pm or 8.30 pm  to Midnight Monday to Friday.   I also find the groups and internet very distracting.   I work as much as I can on bears on the weekend, but normally find, the evenings the most work gets done.   I also sneak some time in when I am having some lunch as well.

Marie, I like your concept of early morning bears too, my hubby suggested I should try this instead of going to bed so late.

Glad I am not the only one that hates housework bear_laugh

Good Luck Jane, wishing you a safe and speedy recovery bear_happy

Great news Shantell, glad your back bear_happy

Nanc ,  thought I would add my 2 cents worth to this comment that you made early.

By cliquey, I mean there are groups that seem to stay together...if Mary Jane is bidding on Smoochie Woochie Bears...then Suzie Q and Polly run right over and bid too.

Ebay calls this Shill Bidding - Shill bidding is the deliberate use of secondary registrations, aliases, family members, friends, or associates to artificially drive up the bid price of an item. (This is also known as "bid padding.")

Shill bidding is strictly forbidden on eBay. eBay members found shill bidding may receive warnings or indefinite suspensions of their accounts.

I have followed this thread with much interest, I am new too, and can relate to this topic, but I will not be giving up without trying every possible thing.  So keep trying everyone. bear_happy

Mandy, just wanted to point something out, my Show was on Saturday, I had sufficient stock to supply, don't panic if you don't have enough, just make sure the quality is there, and your display is up at eye level.  Take a brag book of pictures of your work that you may have already sold, or any display pieces that may not be for sale.

I had plenty of interest but not many buyers unfortunately,  it was important to me that people chatted and took one of my business cards and contact outlets for future interest.   Mainly to get my name out there especially in our local area.

Its funny alot of people were interested in the Gollies more than anything, which surprised me.  And my award winner from a previous show, so if you have something like that to display make sure you take it along.
You will get some conversation and interest happening. I probably could have sold him a million times over.

Another final thing, were the children with sticky hands, were annoying  bear_angry
I think Shelli had a suggestion to avoid this somewhere from memory. Some sort of bucket.   Also if you don't want people to pick up your pieces, place a note for them to ask permission.

I also did a demo of needlefelting, which amazed many people and got some chatting as well.  So I raise some interest for a workshop at a later date.

Good Luck hope it all goes well.   You'll learn a lot.  ;)

Make sure you send us a post and let us know how it all went too.

Dear Louise best wishes for a speedy recovery, take care as well Garnet.

rufnut

OHHHH bear_laugh  What a cutie Daphne, I am not going to give any names, its too hard when you don't know the pups character and not met him in person, good luck, and tell us what you name him.

rufnut

Welcome Chrissie,

I started off reading the bear mags, I had always been interested in crafts from a young age, eg knitting, sewing, cross stitch, drawing, and nearly anything.   Tried a bear kit first, joined some bear classes and then started designing my own pieces.

It took me probably 2 weeks to finish my very first mohair bear, as I work full time.

Ideas generally come from something seen on TV, read in a book, or discussed in a group at work.
Yes it does become harder when you have seen another artist has made something that you have been sort of thinking about.

Yes I do collect and would like to do more of it.

5. Something I'm forgetting to ask?
- As a collector Chrissie, what do you like?  Why do you collect and what style  do you find interests you.    I am curious, would love to hear which bears you collect?

This board has some wonderful artists in it which helps motivate me to keep trying different things.

Yeah Deb, I can relate, hang in there, its not easy.

My poor hubby went through this last year, with his father, he has Dementia, and we had to sell his home and put him in a nursing hostel.  It was hard for the first 6 to 9 months, before he settled in and got into a routine, still to this day, 18 months later, he wants to go back and live in his own home, and he says that there is nothing wrong with him.

I know what you are going through, at least you have sisters, to bounce ideas off, and  help you decide what to do.   And it does get easier, be patient though, my thoughts are with you.   Big hugs to you. bear_happy

Hi Mandy, I am doing an Artist Show this weekend, my first one. I am so excited and very looking forward to it.   I know your predicament, I have been working my backside off, to finish things as well with the same fears, not enough stock.  I will have about 8 mohair bears, a few gollies and about 5 to 6 needlefelted items. Luckily mine is only for about 5 to 6 hours.

Have you got any bears that you can put on Display only, that will not be for Sale, that may help to fill your table, also some bear accessories, such as clothes, hats, beaded accessories,  Bear magazines, kits, bear supplies.   Not sure whether that would suit your show.   Good Luck bear_happy

rufnut

Hey Mandy, "Snivelies" they sound cool

Sounds like something that my kids would be into.  Great idea, there... thanks.

rufnut

Ditto, I get in trouble too, I have tried to stay away, but its too hard.   hehehehehe
