Shelli Makes - Teddy bears & other cheerful things by Shelli Quinn
No Monkey Biz - Domain name registration, hosting

SunnieOne hit the mark. Domain Registry is a pain.  There was a lawsuit regarding this a couple of years ago, not sure what the outcome was. Anyways, just disregard this and update with registrar when the time comes. You can report it to registrar. Basically they try to get you to switch, most people do not know what registrars are and they just pay the bill which inadvertantly switches them to a new registrar.

Push on Danni! Don't let a couple of unfriendly posts get you down! Look at all of the people who are supporting you and who have enjoyed your efforts. Maybe you need to clarify how people will be posted in your eZine a head of time to keep the negativity at bay.

But...... I can also see why you would throw in the towl. It takes allot of time to build those sites and since you are offering for someone else to take it over, well that sure is a heck of a nice thing to do.

Good luck either way.

teddy_bears_org

That is pretty cool. How is it advertised?

I have been around, post from time to time. Been reading mostly... Hang Loose!  bear_thumb

You can also download a program called adaware, http://www.lavasoft.de . Get the personal edition, it is free.

Judi,

One thing I missed in your original post, "5 years old". If you computer is that old, buy a new one. The count down has begun for the power supply or hard drive to fail and it could be what slowing it down. 5 years is old in computer age. bear_original

I would say you could spend a little to upgrade but computers are so cheap now that your better off buying new.

P.S.
I built / sold computers for a number of years.

teddy_bears_org

Lets see, P4 should be more then adequate for anything that you are doing. If it is starting to get slow, sounds like your computer is infected with adware. Download spybot and run it on your computer. You do not need to run out and buy a new one based on the specs you gave. Maybe a total reinstall with the original disks or maybe adding more mem is a good idea. But it does sound like you have adware installed and it is eating up memory.

Any p4 computer is more then adequate for internet, believe me. Most tasks should zip on a p4. (except games)

Other things that can slow down the computer.
Lots of installed fonts
Lots of files, IE pictures.
Lots of installed programs

Get Norton Internet Security and do not use internet explorer, outlook or outlook express. Everyones computer gets infected with those apps. Go to www.mozilla.org and use Firefox as your web browser and Thunderbird for your email. Your problems will fade, believe me on this. Been running both of these for couple of years and never get spyware, viruses and so forth.

The official reason is the main contributor to he museum passed away and the funds were not available. The original collection came from the main contributor.

teddy_bears_org

Teddy-Bears.Org is a great site to add if you ask me!

teddy_bears_org

Their is no way to prevent someone from copying your pictures. The right click trick is only an illusion, it can be circumvented quite easily. The best advice, is to add your company name to your bear pictures on your site. This is easily circumvented, but you have a better chance that someone will not mess with your pics because they do not want to spend the time editing it.

Also, it is good to add your website or company name to your pics, as pics get passed around in email, people may forget the source. THis way, the info is always there.

teddy_bears_org

And just to add to this, the search engine you want to post to is http://www.dmoz.org. This is a community search engine with a number of editors who check each site for submission. All the major search engine (except Google) use the data from dmoz. DMOZ gives its search engine listings away and hotbot, aol, yahoo and more use it. dmoz.org is a prize if you get listed.

To get added, go to the website and go through the directory for the section you want to be listed on. Once there, look for the add site or add url on the page.

Scott,

Am I to trust that freezing the bears didn't work?

Daphne

Don't know, now I do not even want to take chances. Now I am going to freeze them for 7 days, brush and then throw in mothballs for 7 days! Or maybe, a freezer with mothballs in it. bear_original Seriously, I do not know if it did or not. Tried it and guess it did. Just have allot of bears and not a freezer big enough to hold them all. Once the 20 or so bears have been cleaned, all new bears will be thrown in the freezer.

teddy_bears_org

Are mothballs not the answer? QVC actually recommends this, place bears in sealed box with mothballs for 48 hours.

Don't you think we know this? That is why we are know where to be found from time to time. bear_original

Good Look over there... We just got allot of wind last night and a bunch of rain. Seems the hurricanes are kind to us this year, and work you over this year. I know how you feel, we got beat up pretty bad last year.

teddy_bears_org

I did not realize I did teddy-bears.com instead of teddy-bears.org, oops, thanks for pointing that out. Do not let my good advice be in vein, get those sites updated, get good rankings and sell more bears! bear_original

teddy_bears_org

One last thing, once you make these changes, give the search engines a month or so to update. Then see how you rank. You need to check the log files on your site and see if the activity has increased. You want to be in MSN, Google and Yahoo. The three most important. You get in those three, you will end uo in the others over time.

teddy_bears_org

When it comes to search engines, it is not linking to sites with allot of activity, it is linking to sites with similar content. All the top search engines work this way. Example:

Your website is called X, if you link to 30 others teddy bear web sites your ranking will be increased in the teddy bear subject. But if you link to websites that having nothing to do with teddy bears, then it will actually hurt your ranking. Google, MSN do this to prevent people from linking there site with hundreds of others and then unfairly ranking the highest.

* I usually get paid for this information, but for this board it is free! bear_original

Here are some tips:
1. Do NOT use frames when creating your site. If you do not know what frames are you probably havent used them.

2. TEXT is very important to search engines, it is what they feed on. The type of TEXT is even more important. Using the work Teddy Bear is good, but you need to use reocurring words throughout the pages on your site. Your name, types of materials you use, things like this. Think, what is a specific phrase someone would type to find my site, example - "Mohair Goat". Using the word teddy bear will not help much because thousands use that. Get specific about your products.

3. Placement of text on your pages is important. Your first paragraph is the most important to search engines.

4. Always title your pages.

5. Link to other bear sites, doesn't mean link to competitors but places like teddy-bears.org! bear_original Also, you need those sites to link to you. If knowone links to you then the search engines think you are irrelevent, and we know any teddy bear artist is anything but that!

---- TO BUMKIN BEARS: I did a text on your about page, the word stuffed and teddy bear is on some of the pages. These words should be on every page. Maybe consider the word artist bear as well.  I have noticed on Teddy-Bears.Org that many people  do city/country specific searches. Try putting that information on your pages. What you can do is create a footer at the bottom of every page where you COPYRIGHT should be (nudge, nudge), and have something like "Bumkin Bears, Stuffed Teddy Bears Born in Belgium" and then your COPYRIGHT (nudge, nude again)! I know the slogan thing I wrote is a little stale, but many important KEYWORDS are in that sentence.

Hope this helps you.

Here is a good reason to quit. It is becoming socially unacceptable. It seems like so many have quit, it is rare to see people smoking. Well, at least down south, do tend to see more smokers up in the northern states. What else do you have to do in winter I guess, kind of like, who plays cards in Florida, knowone!

It is getting to a point where smokers are the outcasts (dregs) of society. If that doesn't do anything, well, food tastes SO MUCH better. If you are trying to sell a bear to a potential customer, smelling like a cigerrette may not be the best thing. Though if you are a woman bear artist smoking cigars, that could add to the allure! bear_original

"Just do it" and stop talking about it. Getting over the first 4 day shock is the hardest part. If you make it a week, your a champion. Make it a month your a winner. Make it two months, you have quit.

Just think, you will have so much more energy to make bears! Curb your cig needs by changing your mindset. Having the urge to smoke should not be a negative thing, it is going to happen. You need to channel the urge to something positive, making bears, excercising, whatever.

Yeah, I've been a dirty smoker, alwyas scared that my teddies stink.

Good luck, don't be a stinker whatever your do! bear_original
